FROM PERSONAL PASSION TO DESIGN BRAND Warm Nordic is a passion and something very close to my heart. For me and many other people, the Scandinavian style and way of life is full of warmth. It is far from ‘Cool Nordic’, as it is often referred to. Sure, it can be cold outside, but the atmosphere indoors is warm. The style isn’t about excessive decoration, but about a warm, authentic look and maybe even an open fire. It’s this style that has made the Danish concept of ‘hygge’ so famous throughout the world. I’ve been collecting Scandinavian design for many years, and have furnished the Kähler restaurants, among others, with my 50s and 60s auction finds. On several occasions, guests have asked about the classic chairs, tables and lamps, which were no longer being produced. That’s when an idea began to take shape. I contacted the descendants of the original architects and designers, and found huge support from the families for injecting new life into the beautiful designs in Warm Nordic. With other people noticing the beauty and quality of the old classics, I couldn’t bear the idea that iconic chairs by Hans Olsen and Knud Færch, or internationally sought-after lamps by Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen, should only live their lives at international auctions. Now Warm Nordic has brought them, and a wide range of other classic designs, to life. At the same time, the old masters have been united with the best contemporary designers. So Warm Nordic features both a Classic Collection and a Contemporary Collection. Together the two collections illuminate the quality of Scandinavian design and its independence from time and generations. By founding Warm Nordic I want to provide design-lovers with a passion for classic Scandinavian interiors with new, high quality choices. I hope that many people will be delighted with this integrated, curated universe, which expresses the warm, informal mood so typical of Scandinavian design. We aren’t cool. We’re Warm Nordic.

MR. OLSEN Designed by Hans Olsen, 1958 The elegant Mr Olsen sofa was originally designed in 1958 by the architect Hans Olsen, originally familiar as part of the 800 range and is the architect’s personal take on the classic sofa. Compared to other design classics of the period, the organic appearance of the range generates an unusual lightness. Particularly from the soft, sophisticated shapes of the sofa’s armrest and the round, tapered legs. The design is available both as a sofa and an armchair in several colours.

FRIED EGG SHEEP Designed by Hans Olsen, 1956 Fried Egg is a unique asymmetrical armchair designed by the highly acclaimed Danish architect, Hans Olsen in 1956. The personality that characterises this unique designer chair are emphasised in this extremely comfortable sheepskin version that is now available to design lovers. This roomy, comfortable chair was christened ‘Fried Egg’, because that is what it looks like when viewed from above. The flat armrests invite you to swing your legs nonchalantly up on them, when you really feel like relaxing. Choose from three versions in sheepskin or several versions in exclusive furnishing fabric from the likes of Kvadrat. 28

The Orange, 1955 | Hans Olsen

32

THE ORANGE Designed by Hans Olsen, 1955 This light, elegant chair, is characterised by its easy charm and innovative shell construction. Thanks to its classic expression, The Orange chair will complement either a contemporary or more timeless interior as an effortless addition to the existing furniture in the home. Hans Olsen’s The Orange chair is one of the earliest known shell chairs and acquired its name because of its characteristic back and seat, which are reminiscent of orange peel. Reflecting both the era’s experiments with colour and the architect’s own playful attitude to design, this upholstered shell chair is also available in a two-tone version. 33

FRINGE Designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, 1960 Fringe is a much admired timeless design statement, constructed to create warm, soft, cosy lighting by means of the sophisticated fringes that conceal the light source beautifully. The Fringe table lamp evokes the interiors of the past, but in a simplified design with an eye for contrasts and exclusive materials. Solid, polished brass is combined with tactile fringes, which fall elegantly in several layers like a flowing skirt. It is a stunning, stylish detail that helped make the Fringe lamp a design icon. The range covers a pendant in two sizes, a table lamp, a floor lamp, and a wall lamp, all available in cream white or pale pink. 42
