Marlin Porch

Smart, taut and straightforward - the Marlin porch answers a lot of needs because it’s quick and easy to build and also gives good space

ou have two options when you construct a Marlin porch. You can feed the roof section into the caravan rail before you attach the sides – that way, you’re handling only one section of fabric and it’s impressively easy and light. Or you can do this first section of the build process with all three sizes zipped in – and it’s still easy to pull along the channel. From the outset, building the Marlin seems effortless… It’s a breezy day and we are glad that we’re building with all sides zipped in as there’s more weight of fabric to hold the porch down as we work. We put the FixOns in place (they’re the square pads that fix to the beading parallel to the awning rail)

SUBHEAD ONE

Because it’s breezy we’re quick to put the centre front pole into position and lock it down to prevent the porch from billowing. “Regulator tabs” help us to quickly establish the height to which the centre front pole needs to be tensioned. On

level ground, all the legs go through the same positions on the tabs; if the ground slopes, those near the caravan side will go through a different hole on their tabs.

SUBHEAD TWO

The side rafters have bayonet locators – they’re really quick to click into position – and the front poles just slide into the robust plastic centre-point connector. Very quickly, as it takes shape, we’re seeing that the Marlin is an all-purpose porch. That’s because it’s speedy to construct and yet it gives you a good amount of living space.
