Head Coach LARRY REYNOLDS Head Coach Larry Reynolds, who has coached Division I and II championship teams at Long Beach State and Cal State San Bernardino, became the head coach of the men’s basketball program at California State University, Stanislaus, in June of 2009. In his first season at Cal State Stanislaus, he helped the team to 10 wins for the first time since 2006-07 with a 10-17 overall record. Then in 2010-11, he guided the Warriors to their first appearance in the CCAA Tournament and posted 12-15 overall and 10-12 conference records. Reynolds compiled an impressive record as a head coach for 10 seasons after a number of years as an assistant coach at UC Riverside and the University of San Francisco. In five seasons at Long Beach State, he directed his teams to consecutive post-season playoff appearances from 2004-05 to 2006-07, including a Big West Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in his final year. Long Beach State rolled to a 24-8 record in 2006-07, and he was named Big West Conference Coach of the Year. At Division II Cal State San Bernardino, Reynolds’ teams rolled up a dazzling 110-35 record over five seasons and made four consecutive NCAA West Regional appearances. His clubs won three CCAA championships (1999-2002), two West Region titles, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight twice. At Cal State San Bernardino, after a 12-15 first season, Reynolds turned the program around to post a 23-8 season in 1998-99 and won the West Region in 1999. The team advanced as far as the NCAA Championship quarterfinals. CSUSB advanced to the 2001 West Regional title game and posted a 24-4 record that season. The following year, in 2002, Reynolds again led the Coyotes to an impressive 28-2 overall record before falling in the NCAA Championship quarterfinal game. Reynolds was named CCAA Conference Coach of the Year four times and National Association of Basketball Coaches District Eight Coach of the Year in 1998-99. From 1979 to 1995, Reynolds was an associate head coach at UC Riverside with John Masi. UCR won eight CCAA titles and made the NCAA tournament 10 times, including three Elite Eight appearances. In 1994, UCR advanced to the national championship game. During the 1995-96 and 96-97 seasons, Reynolds served as an assistant coach at the University of San Francisco. Reynolds played at UC Riverside where he was a conference most valuable player in basketball. He graduated from UCR with a degree in urban studies in 1976 and earned his master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific in 1993.

CSUS HEAD COACHES THROUGH THE YEARS

Ben Riley has been on the Cal State Stanislaus men’s basketball coaching staff since 2009. Riley brought a wealth of experience to the Warriors as both a coach and a player. Riley comes to CSUS after four years as head coach of the Lassen Community College men’s basketball squad. Riley led the team to a conference championship in 2007-08 and was named conference coach of the year for his and the team’s efforts. While at Lassen CC, Riley served for two years on the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association executive board as the Golden Valley Conference representative. Riley worked locally for three years as an assistant coach at Modesto Junior College from 2002 to 2005. Before that, Riley was a graduate assistant at University of Pacific to former Cal State Stanislaus head coach Bob Thomason, who has led the Pacific Tigers to multiple NCAA Division I Tournament appearances, Big West Conference championships, and has been named Big West Conference Coach of the Year on five occasions. Riley had a prolific playing career as a high-scoring shooter at Mendocino College in Ukiah, and at NAIA-member College of Idaho. He led his College of Idaho team to a total of 48 wins in two years and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Riley set the single-season school record for 3-pointers by hitting 106 shots from behind the arc. At Mendocino College, Riley led all California community colleges with 27.3 points per game as a sophomore and set single season records in scoring with 763 points and in free-throws by making a 168. Riley graduated from the University of Pacific in 2003 with a master’s degree in sports sciences. He received his bachelor’s degree in sports management from the College of Idaho in 2000.

The California Collegiate Athletic Association has been the nation’s most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in December 1938. The 12-member league is home to some of the nation’s finest NCAA Division II athletic programs in Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State L.A., Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, CSU, Monterey Bay, Humboldt State, UC San Diego, San Francisco State and Sonoma State. CCAA institutions compete in seven women’s and six men’s conference-sponsored sports. Fall sports include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Men’s and women’s basketball are contested in the winter, and women’s tennis, men’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, softball and baseball comprise spring competition. CCAA members have won 151 NCAA Championships (102 men, 49 women) all time, far and away the most of any Division II conference. This is Cal State Stanislaus Location. Location. Location.

Situated in a park-like setting that is unique in the CSU system, new students are immediately drawn to CSU Stanislaus by its tranquil and picturesque environment — the perfect backdrop for focused, serious study. We have 228 acres of lawns, bridges, waterfalls, and ponds that will make students feel as though they are walking through a private park on their way to class. Our campus is considered one of the most beautiful—and safest—public campuses in all of California, where nature coexists in harmony with the pleasing architectural style of our buildings. Looking beyond the natural beauty, students find modern computer and research labs, a technologically enhanced library, and our latest addition, the Nora and Hashem Naraghi Hall of Science.

CSU Stanislaus has again been recognized as one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. For the sixth consecutive year, CSU Stanislaus is featured in the 2012 edition of the prestigious college guide “The Best 376 Colleges.” CSU Stanislaus is one of only two California State University campuses to receive this honor, and the only one to receive the recognition for six-straight years. Additionally, The Princeton Review recognized CSU Stanislaus as one of the best colleges in the West in its website feature, “2012 Best Colleges: Region by Region,” posted August 1, 2011, on www.PrincetonReview.com. Collectively, schools on the regions’ best lists represent just 25 percent of four-year colleges in the U.S.

This is Cal State Stanislaus Student Life

There’s more to college than attending class, studying, or bubbling in answers on Scantron forms. At CSU Stanislaus , people experience a campus culture that fosters strong relationships between students, faculty, and administrators. Students make lifelong friends with their classmates, association and club members, fraternity brothers, and sorority sisters. Students become part of a vibrant campus life, where activities are plentiful. With close to 100 active student organizations and more than 9,000 potential friends at CSU Stanislaus, there is a niche for everyone.

Call us home

For many, living on campus is part of the college experience. Strong bonds and lifelong friendships are created through the shared experience of campus life. For campus residents, there are no hassles with transportation or parking, and classrooms and other facilities are just steps away from where our students live. The Village at CSU Stanislaus is decidedly not a typical dorm. With the choice of spacious single, double, or triple occupancy suites or single-occupancy apartments, students can pick the one that’s right for them. Privacy, yes, but Village life is anything but dull; with dozens of organized activities — from mixers to dances — students can be as involved as they want to be. The Village boasts two swimming pools, a spa, a total of seven coinless laundry facilities, a computer lab, a study hall, recreation room, sport courts, fitness center, and a new dining hall complete with an outdoor patio.

International Education

CSU Stanislaus students can take an internship in France, visit Malta, apply for a scholarship to China, or spend a summer in Prague. As an example, in a single semester, CSU Stanislaus students were recently studying in Spain, Israel, France, Canada, Australia, and Wales. Best of all, financial aid applies, so students can take courses for the same low fee AND study abroad! CSU Stanislaus was recently selected as one of eight national institutions for the Global Learning for All Program, which means that international/global education is integrated into coursework as an active component.

Faculty facts

CSU Stanislaus employs more than 450 full-time and part-time instructors who have a passion for helping students. The University boasts a low 19 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. More than 80 percent of faculty hold doctorates, or an equivalent degree in their fields.

Financial Aid

We don’t let money stand in the way of a college education. Recently named one of America’s Best Value Colleges, CSU Stanislaus offers a top-quality education at an affordable price. Our students graduate with a debt load substantially below the national average, thanks, in part, to more than $35 million in financial aid awarded to students annually, with nearly $1 million of that from scholarships.

Internships

Experience gained from internships and fellowships offered at CSU Stanislaus often gives students the advantage in landing that crucial first job on their way to a lifelong career. Leading local, regional, and national companies, businesses, school districts, hospitals, social and government agencies proudly employ CSU Stanislaus graduates. And many of them began their careers as interns.

President ’s Message 2011-12 President’s Message DR. HAMID SHIRVANI University President California State University Stanislaus Welcome to California State University, Stanislaus and Warrior Athletics. I am delighted to welcome you to California State University, Stanislaus and another year of Warrior Athletics. Once again, the success of our student athletes on the field and in the classroom has contributed to the university’s reputation for excellence and its sixth-straight annual recognition in the Princeton Review’s listing of Best Colleges in the United States. CSU Stanislaus is very proud to be the only CSU campus to receive this honor for six consecutive years. In 2010-11, we had the pleasure of hosting three major championships: the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) soccer championships and the Track & Field conference championships. CSU Stanislaus is truly honored to have hosted these events and welcomed thousands of student-athletes and families from around the country to our campus. Our Warrior Athletics teams and student-athletes continue to rank highly in the state and country. Our women’s soccer team recently participated in the CCAA championship tournament. In addition, two of our student athletes qualified for the NCAA track nationals, and seven were honored as NCAA All Americans. However, Warrior success is not limited to athletics competitions—our student athletes also continue to realize success in their academic pursuits. Thirty-five student athletes had a grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or higher, one of the strongest academic showings in the CCAA. Thank you again for your interest in Warrior Athletics. I encourage you to visit our beautiful campus and encourage our fine athletes by becoming an enthusiastic fan and supporter of our teams. Go Warriors!

Some Health Center procedures require a nominal fee for service generally at a rate much lower than at any outside facility. The Student Health Center should be utilized for all appropriate care during normal operating hours. The The Student Health Center does not have X-ray capability so specialized radiographic studies are performed off-campus. Standard x-rays in support of basic illness/injury service are provided free of charge to all students. More specialized x-ray studies – MRI, CT scans are at the students’ own expense or can be billed to students’ insurance as applicable. Athletic injuries beyond the scope of the athletic trainer are referred to the Student Health Center where they are further evaluated by a physician or family nurse practitioner. The Health Center is located just across the Warrior Lake bridge connecting the Athletics and Physical Education facilities to the rest of the campus. SAAC / CHAMPS Life Skills Student-Athlete Advisory Committee The mission of the California State University Stanislaus Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting studentathlete welfare, maintaining athletics integrity, acting as a liaison between student-athletes and the administration and fostering a positive student-athlete image. SAAC is also very active in community activities including raising money for the NCAA Division II sponsored Make-A-Wish Foundation annual fund drive. The Warriors led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in fund raising for Make-A-Wish six out of the last seven years, including four consecutive years from 2004 to 2008. In 2009-10, the Warriors raised $5,064.92 — nearly $1,400 more than the second place finisher. Last year, Stanislaus tops the list again with $5,800 raised. In 2008, SAAC was involved with a campus community engagement project, Henry’s March, benefiting the Children’s Craniofacial Association. Working with event organizers and coordinated by Associate A.D. Kim Duyst, SAAC helped Henry’s March raised more than $25,000 for the C.A.A. SAAC committee members were also actively involved with workshops through the conference office as well as the CCAA Sportsmanship Workshop. They present Faculty Appreciation Awards at our annual athletic banquet. For its efforts in 2007-08 and 2010-11, SAAC won the Cal State Stanislaus Outstanding Student Organization Leadership Award. Heather Overholt received “Outstanding Leader of the Year” Award and Kim Duyst received “Outstanding Advisor of the Year” for the 2010-11 Academic year. Other regular SAAC community events included building homes with Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, AVID, Salvation Army – ringing the bell, “Pink Zone” – Cancer Awareness, Canned Food Drive, Recycling on Campus, and working with local school children on academic and athletics skill development.

California State University, Stanislaus and Warrior Athletics became a member of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program in 2007-08. The mission of the NCAA is to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. With this in mind, the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program was created to support the student-athlete development initiatives of NCAA member institutions and to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education. In the process of achieving this mission, the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program will: • Promote student-athletes’ ownership of their academic, athletic, career, personal and community responsibilities. • Meet the changing needs of student-athletes. • Promote respect for diversity and inclusion among student-athletes. • Assist student-athletes in identifying and applying transferable skills. • Enhance partnerships between the NCAA, member institutions and their communities for the purpose of education. • Foster an environment that encourages student-athletes to effectively access campus resources. • Encourage the development of character, integrity and leadership skills. Participating institutions in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program are provided with instructional materials and supplemental resources which support a student-athlete’s development in five areas: academics, athletics, personal development, career development and community service.

Academic Advising & Support Student-Athlete Academic Advising Program The number one goal for the Intercollegiate Athletics program at California State University Stanislaus is that our student-athletes graduate at a higher rate than the general student body. To achieve this goal coaches at Cal State Stanislaus only recruit student-athletes deemed admissible by the Director of Admissions who show promise for academic and athletic achievement. In the fall of 2006, under the direction of Vice President for Student Affairs Stacey Morgan-Foster and Director of Athletics Dr. Milton Richards, an Academic Advisor for student-athletes was recruited and a program to assist student-athletes in obtaining their college degree was established. Under the leadership of the Interim Director of Retention and Advising Fernando Beltran, Academic Advisor Amye Leon provides a comprehensive academic advising program for all student-athletes. Her program includes personal one on one advising, determination and monitoring of student-athlete NCAA and CCAA academic eligibility and most importantly, direct interaction with campus faculty on behalf of coaches, student-athletes and campus staff to assist all student-athletes in their pursuit of a college degree. AMYE LEON Success in the classroom for student-athletes is a top priority for Warrior Athletics. Our department consisAcademic Advisor tently earns a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Warrior student-athletes also achieve NCAA and CCAA Academic All American Awards, with more than 200 students earning Academic All-CCAA honors since 2006-07 (35 in 2010-11). Student athletes are strongly encouraged to visit both the Athletic Advisor and their chosen major department advisor/faculty each semester before registering for classes. The Advising Resource Center is located in Mary Stuart Rogers (MSR) 180, and appointments can be made by calling (209) 667-3304. Leon Graduated from California State University, Fresno with a B.A. in Psychology in 2001, obtained her M.A. in Educational Counseling and Student Services in 2002, and is currently enrolled as part of the first cohort of the Ed.D. program at CSU Stanislaus.

First-YEAR EXPERIENCE (F.Y.E.) A Special program for first semester freshmen Research shows that students who are part of a learning community and a FYE program do better in their classes, are more active on campus, make friends more easily, and get to know faculty more personally than students who do not join such a program. The FYE program provides these benefits for you. In the First Year Experience Program, you have the opportunity to join a learning community with other new students. The classes in the learning community are integrated around an interesting theme and linked to a seminar that will prepare you to be successful in your classes and will encourage you to get involved on campus. ED & BERTHA FITZPATRICK ARENA Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena The arena on the campus of California State University Stanislaus is home to the Warriors’ men’s and women’s basketball teams, the women’s volleyball team, department of Intercollegiate Athletics, as well as the Department of Kinesiology. On the first day of basketball practices for the 2010-11 season, new letters were installed on the building, renaming the gym to Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. The arena was renamed for Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick, owners of Valley Lexus/Valley BMW in Modesto and other car dealerships in the Bay Area. The Fitzpatricks contributed $500,000 to the University in 2009. As a result, the California State University Board of Trustees has approved, at the recommendation of University President Ham Shirvani, that the campus’ Warrior Arena be renamed the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. In 1999, the gymnasium took on the name Warrior Arena, 21 years after it was built on the east side of the campus. Fitzpatrick Arena has become one of the toughest places to play in the conference and is noted for its atmosphere and vocal fan support. Also in the Fall of 2009, the walk-way leading up to the Arena was named Hanny Way, in honor of Jim Hanny, who had been involved with CSU Stanislaus athletics since 1966. In 42 years of service at CSU Stanislaus, Hanny has served as the athletics director, chairman of physical education, coached basketball, golf, track & field, cross country and baseball. Hanny led the Warriors to 12 national championships and is a member of five different Athletics Halls of Fame. Adjacent to the Field House, which is home to physical education professors’ offices and the Warrior Fitness Center, is a full-size swimming pool. With the addition of the new Student Recreation Center, Warrior studentathletes have gain better access to the Fitness Center. Warriors Record at the Arena (Men’s Basketball)

SRC & Athletics Facilities The Student Recreation Complex at California State University Stanislaus opened in August of 2009 prior to the start of the soccer season after students overwhelmingly approved a referendum to fund the construction of a student recreation complex in the spring of 2007. The complex, located on the east side of campus at the corner of Geer Road and Christoffersen Parkway, features a 19,000-square-foot fitness center, a 2,100-seat lighted soccer/football stadium (Warrior Stadium) with a state-of-the-art all-weather turf and track (Al Brenda Track), a lighted intramural competition field and a soccer practice field. A field events site for the relocated track and field program is also included in the project. The Associated Students, Inc., University Student Union Board of Directors and Student Athletic Advisory Committee leadership were involved in the planning for the project. A student oversight committee provided a voice in operation of the facilities. The addition of a lighted intramural field provides CSU Stanislaus with its first dedicated facility for that program. Participation in intramurals has increased dramatically with the University’s steady enrollment growth and improved student-generated recreation programs. In its first year, Warrior Stadium hosted the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s & Women’s Soccer Championships. The facility is schedule to host three major championships in 2010-11: the CCAA Men’s Warrior Stadium & Women’s Soccer Championships, CCAA Track & Field Championships and & AL Brenda Track the NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships. During its inaugural soccer season, Warrior Stadium is the site of new attendance records for the Cal State Stanislaus men’s and women’s soccer programs. Both teams set new conference and school records in single-game and single-season attendance figures. The Warriors also led all of NCAA Division II in single-game attendance. The track & field program hosted five meets on the Al Brenda Track, including the first Kim Duyst Invitational and the annual Brenda Athletic Clubs High School Invitational. In the same vicinity on the east side of the campus, the athletic facilities also include a baseball field, two softball fields and six tennis courts.

Welcome! As Mayor of the City of Turlock, it is my distinct honor to welcome you to the campus of California State University Stanislaus for today’s home game. Cal State Stanislaus continues to set the bar for excellence in academics and athletics. For 54 years Warrior Athletics has brought great pride to the City of Turlock, Cal State Stanislaus and the Central Valley. President Shirvani, the Turlock Chamber of Commerce/ Convention and Visitors Bureau, City Council and I have been working hard to enhance the relationship between the City of Turlock and California State University Stanislaus. Warrior Athletics is a key part of our strategy to make Turlock a true college town. As a graduate of Cal State Stanislaus (1981), I thank you on behalf of our student-athletes, coaches, administrative staff, alumni and friends of the University for attending today’s home contest. By purchasing a ticket to a home contest or special event and by joining the Warrior Athletic Club through a tax deductible donation to Warrior Athletics you are helping us provide the necessary additional financial resources to allow our student-athletes to succeed in the class room, court, field, diamond and track. On behalf of our the student-athletes, coaches and staff I want again personally thank you for your support of Cal State Stanislaus.
