Season Outlook Warriors reloaded, ready for advancement in 2011 Coming off their most successful season since 2005 the Warriors are reloaded and ready to take things to the next level in 2011. The 2010 season was a success for the Warriors as they posted their ninth winning season (12-6-1) during the last decade. The Warriors qualified for the CCAA Championship tournament by posting a 10-5-1 CCAA record to finish second in the North Division. Last year, Warrior fans also witnessed the dazzling play of CCAA Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year Karenee Demery. Demery became the program’s first All-American (Daktronics second team) after setting school records with 19 goals and 44 points. The 2011 campaign is anything but a rebuilding year despite losing five seniors — all spent four-plus years with the program — and with 22 freshmen or sophomores on the current squad. Part of that is because the Warriors return nine starters and will welcome back three key players who were injured last fall. Throw that in with an impressive recruiting class and you have a recipe for success. “Our seniors last year were a special group that provided great leadership as well as soccer talent,” said head coach Gabriel Bolton. “However, our spring season was amazing! The returning players have all really stepped up. I’m also very excited about our recruiting class.” Returning to the Warriors from injury are attacking midfielder Allison Case, center defender Lauren Thornton and center midfielder Apryl Whitney. Case saw limited action last year due to an injury, but before she went out, she dished five assists in the first five matches. Thornton and Whitney were both recovering from ACL injuries. ““Allison, Lauren and Apryl are three very talented players and we are excited to have them back,” said Bolton. “All three had fantastic spring seasons and are going to make a huge impact this fall.” The Warriors’ two non-conference matches — against Central Washington University and Notre Dame de Namur — will be during the first weekend in September. Cal State Stanislaus will open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on September 9 against Humboldt State. That will also be Break the Record Night where

2

the Warriors will try to break the Warrior Stadium attendance record of 1,876. GOALKEEpERS Millie Brown returns as the starting goalkeeper. She recorded seven shutouts with a Goal-Against-Average of 1.01 in 2010. She is the current CSUS career leader with a .786 saves percentage. Competing for playing time to guard the net will be freshmen Chelsea Lewandowski, Brianna Murawski and Giovana Treyes. DEFENDERS The Warriors return all four starting defenders from last year, anchored by fifth year defender Vanessa Cervantes, the team’s MVP in 2009. She is joined in the backfield by junior Sierra Casas. Thornton, a redshirt freshman from Fresno, is expected to challenge for playing time and a starting position. Incoming freshman Alyssa Dodson and Madeline Easterbrook will also be in the mix at center back. Bernie Bettencourt (pictured above) returns at right defender. However, freshman Emma Bennett and Jennifer Ramos are expected to vie for playing time at that position. At left defender, freshman sensation Emily Relles enters her sophomore year as the starting left back, but look for Alyssa Strope, a speedy attacking back from Tracy, to also compete at that position. MIDFIELDERS Cal State Stanislaus returns two of the

three starting midfielders from a year ago. Gone is All-Conference defensive midfielder Kim DiNardo. But holding midfielder Alisa Barlow returns. A redshirt junior from Escondido, she is a steady possession player. Barlow is joined by Alexia poon, an All-Region and All-CCAA standout as a sophomore. Poon was second on the team in scoring with seven goals last year. Look for Whitney and Case to be among those that compete for a starting position immediately. They will be joined by incoming freshman Karli Nestler who is expected to contribute right away. Lica Monobe, Alex Larranaga and Alisa Penick will also battle for playing time. FORWARDS Demery and senior standout Marissa Dunaway return to the offensive attack in the front line. Together they scored 24 of the team’s 41 goals last season. Veteran Dunaway has tallied 14 goals with 13 assists in her career. Demery and Dunaway will be supported by a group of talented attacking personalities all fighting for playing time and a starting position on the forward line. On the wings returners Liz Scherrer and Allie Dugan are expected to compete for pitch time. In the middle, Anabel Vazquez, who joined the team in the spring, will be in the mix for playing time. Also look for incoming freshmen Kelsi Decker, Jessica Cervantes, Keshia Lyons, Tina Benson, and Katelyn Nebesnick to factor into the equation.

Head Coach GABRIEL BOLTON Head Coach Gabriel Bolton returned to Cal State Stanislaus as the women’s soccer head coach in 2006 after first serving as the head coach in 2001. He is now in his seventh season overall with the program and in 2008 became the Warriors’ winningest coach. In 2010, Bolton led the Warriors to their second California Collegiate Athletic Association conference championship appearence after posting an impressive 10-5-1 conference record. The Warriors finished second in the North division and played on home turf during the CCAA tournament. The Warriors also posted their ninth winning season in the last decade with a 12-6-1 overall record. In his first season, Bolton helped direct the Warriors to an 11-8-1 overall finish in 2001. In the three years before his arrival, the program tallied just a 7-48-1 record. The Warriors were ranked the fourth-most improved women’s soccer program in the nation by the NCAA at the conclusion of the year. During the Bolton era, five different players have received regional or national honors including Karenee Demery, who was a Daktronics All-America second team pick after the 2010 season. Demery was the first Warrior to ever be named to the All-American team. Bolton’s teams have also received four consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Awards. After the 2001 season, Bolton left to become the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. During his three seasons at Utah, the Utes made three NCAA Division I tournament appearances, won the Mountain West Conference Championship tournament in 2003 and 2004 and posted an overall record of 42-12-8. The program was also ranked in the top 25 nationally all three seasons and in both 2003 and 2004, cracked the nation’s top 15 rankings. As recruiting coordinator with the Utes, Bolton recruited three nationally-ranked recruiting classes. In 2002 and 2004, his classes were ranked No. 37 in the country and in 2003 his class was ranked No. 17—the highest-ranked recruiting class in Utah and MWC history. During his three years at Utah, Bolton coached 14 all-conference players, 38 academic all-conference players, six NSCAA All-West Region players, five freshmen All-Americans, and two Verizon Academic All-Americans. Utah also received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award all three years. From 2005 to 2006, Bolton took over as the Girl’s Director of Coaching for the River City United soccer club in Sacramento. He was also the head coach for the RCU Boca Jrs. ‘91 (U14 girls) and RCU Boca Jrs. ‘90 (U15 girls). In 2006, Bolton led the Boca Jrs. ‘91 team to the Cal North State Cup Championship—the first State Cup Championship by an RCU girl’s team in the 38-year history of RCU. He also led the team to a Super Y League Pacific Division Championship and the Super Y League North American Finals, where the team finished second. His Boca Jrs. ‘90 team was two-time United States Club Region G Champions, advanced to U.S. Club Nationals in 2005, and won the 2006 U.S. Club National Championship in Bolton’s last game as coach of the team. In addition to coaching at the collegiate and club levels, Bolton has been heavily involved in soccer with the Olympic Development Program (ODP). He has served as assistant coach and head coach for the Cal North State Team. Bolton also spent two years as a head coach in Utah with the ODP. Bolton has coached numerous players that have gone on to play at the U.S. Youth National Team levels. He is also on the national staff for Super Y League ODP. Bolton has also coached at the Community College and High School levels. In 1998, he started the women’s soccer program at Sierra College and made it an instant success. His overall three-year record was 41-16-11 and he led the team to the California Community College playoffs in two of the three seasons, including the NorCal Regional Final Four in the second year of the program. In 1996, he turned around Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, leading them to the Capital Athletic League Championship his first season and the Division I Section Semi-Finals in 1998. While Bolton mostly coaches players, he is also extremely involved in developing coaches. In 2005, he became a certified trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance. The PCA is a non-profit organization started in 1998 at Stanford University that trains coaches to coach using positive motivational techniques. As a trainer, Bolton puts on workshops throughout Northern California that gives youth coaches tools to positively motivate their players. Bolton Graduated from UC Davis in 1994 with his degree in political science and sociology. He earned his law degree in 1997 from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Bolton and his wife Kathy, have a daughter, Sophia, who turned one in April.

The California Collegiate Athletic Association has been the nation’s most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in December 1938. The 12-member league is home to some of the nation’s finest NCAA Division II athletic programs in Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State L.A., Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, CSU, Monterey Bay, Humboldt State, UC San Diego, San Francisco State and Sonoma State. CCAA institutions compete in seven women’s and six men’s conference-sponsored sports. Fall sports include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Men’s and women’s basketball are contested in the winter, and women’s tennis, men’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, softball and baseball comprise spring competition. CCAA members have won 151 NCAA Championships (102 men, 49 women) all time, far and away the most of any Division II conference. On the men’s side, CCAA members have brought home at least 10 titles in swimming & diving (25), wrestling (16), track & field (13), tennis (11) and baseball (10). CCAA institutions have been very

Situated in a park-like setting that is unique in the CSU system, new students are immediately drawn to CSU Stanislaus by its tranquil and picturesque environment — the perfect backdrop for focused, serious study. We have 228 acres of lawns, bridges, waterfalls, and ponds that will make students feel as though they are walking through a private park on their way to class. Our campus is considered one of the most beautiful—and safest—public campuses in all of California, where nature coexists in harmony with the pleasing architectural style of our buildings. Looking beyond the natural beauty, students find modern computer and research labs, a technologically enhanced library, and our latest addition, the Nora and Hashem Naraghi Hall of Science.

CSU Stanislaus has again been recognized as one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. For the sixth consecutive year, CSU Stanislaus is featured in the 2012 edition of the prestigious college guide “The Best 376 Colleges.” CSU Stanislaus is one of only two California State University campuses to receive this honor, and the only one to receive the recognition for six-straight years. Additionally, The Princeton Review recognized CSU Stanislaus as one of the best colleges in the West in its website feature, “2012 Best Colleges: Region by Region,” posted August 1, 2011, on www.PrincetonReview.com. Collectively, schools on the regions’ best lists represent just 25 percent of four-year colleges in the U.S.

This is Cal State Stanislaus Student life

There’s more to college than attending class, studying, or bubbling in answers on Scantron forms. At CSU Stanislaus , people experience a campus culture that fosters strong relationships between students, faculty, and administrators. Students make lifelong friends with their classmates, association and club members, fraternity brothers, and sorority sisters. Students become part of a vibrant campus life, where activities are plentiful. With close to 100 active student organizations and more than 9,000 potential friends at CSU Stanislaus, there is a niche for everyone.

Call us home

For many, living on campus is part of the college experience. Strong bonds and lifelong friendships are created through the shared experience of campus life. For campus residents, there are no hassles with transportation or parking, and classrooms and other facilities are just steps away from where our students live. The Village at CSU Stanislaus is decidedly not a typical dorm. With the choice of spacious single, double, or triple occupancy suites or single-occupancy apartments, students can pick the one that’s right for them. Privacy, yes, but Village life is anything but dull; with dozens of organized activities — from mixers to dances — students can be as involved as they want to be. The Village boasts two swimming pools, a spa, a total of seven coinless laundry facilities, a computer lab, a study hall, recreation room, sport courts, fitness center, and a new dining hall complete with an outdoor patio.

International education

CSU Stanislaus students can take an internship in France, visit Malta, apply for a scholarship to China, or spend a summer in Prague. As an example, in a single semester, CSU Stanislaus students were recently studying in Spain, Israel, France, Canada, Australia, and Wales. Best of all, financial aid applies, so students can take courses for the same low fee AND study abroad! CSU Stanislaus was recently selected as one of eight national institutions for the Global Learning for All Program, which means that international/global education is integrated into coursework as an active component.

Faculty facts

CSU Stanislaus employs more than 450 full-time and part-time instructors who have a passion for helping students. The University boasts a low 19 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. More than 80 percent of faculty hold doctorates, or an equivalent degree in their fields.

Financial Aid

We don’t let money stand in the way of a college education. Recently named one of America’s Best Value Colleges, CSU Stanislaus offers a top-quality education at an affordable price. Our students graduate with a debt load substantially below the national average, thanks, in part, to more than $35 million in financial aid awarded to students annually, with nearly $1 million of that from scholarships.

Internships

Experience gained from internships and fellowships offered at CSU Stanislaus often gives students the advantage in landing that crucial first job on their way to a lifelong career. Leading local, regional, and national companies, businesses, school districts, hospitals, social and government agencies proudly employ CSU Stanislaus graduates. And many of them began their careers as interns.

President ’s Message 2011-12 president’s Message DR. HAMID SHIRVANI University president California State University Stanislaus Welcome to California State University, Stanislaus and Warrior Athletics. I am delighted to welcome you to California State University, Stanislaus and another year of Warrior Athletics. Once again, the success of our student athletes on the field and in the classroom has contributed to the university’s reputation for excellence and its sixth-straight annual recognition in the Princeton Review’s listing of Best Colleges in the United States. CSU Stanislaus is very proud to be the only CSU campus to receive this honor for six consecutive years. In 2010-11, we had the pleasure of hosting three major championships: the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) soccer championships and the Track & Field conference championships. CSU Stanislaus is truly honored to have hosted these events and welcomed thousands of student-athletes and families from around the country to our campus. Our Warrior Athletics teams and student-athletes continue to rank highly in the state and country. Our women’s soccer team recently participated in the CCAA championship tournament. In addition, two of our student athletes qualified for the NCAA track nationals, and seven were honored as NCAA All Americans. However, Warrior success is not limited to athletics competitions—our student athletes also continue to realize success in their academic pursuits. Thirty-five student athletes had a grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or higher, one of the strongest academic showings in the CCAA. Thank you again for your interest in Warrior Athletics. I encourage you to visit our beautiful campus and encourage our fine athletes by becoming an enthusiastic fan and supporter of our teams. Go Warriors!

Student Recreation Complex The Student Recreation Complex at California State University Stanislaus opened in August of 2009 prior to the start of the soccer season after students overwhelmingly approved a referendum to fund the construction of a student recreation complex in the spring of 2007. The complex, located on the east side of campus at the corner of Geer Road and Christoffersen Parkway, features a 19,000-square-foot fitness center, a 2,100-seat lighted soccer/football stadium (Warrior Stadium) with a state-of-the-art allweather turf and track (Al Brenda Track), a lighted intramural competition field and a soccer practice field. A field events site for the relocated track and field program is also included in the project. The Associated Students, Inc., University Student Union Board of Directors and Student Athletic Advisory Committee leadership were involved in the planning for the project. A student oversight committee provided a voice in operation of the facilities. The addition of a lighted intramural field provides CSU Stanislaus with its first dedicated facility for that program. Participation in intramurals has increased dramatically with the University’s steady enrollment growth and improved student-generated recreation programs. CSU Stanislaus Director of Athletics Milton Richards said that the Warriors sports program will take a major step forward with the addition of the new facilities.

Warrior Stadium “We are very grateful to President Shirvani and our students for their overwhelming support of this project,” Richards said. “This facility will allow Warrior Athletics to move to the next level of competitive success while meeting the recreational needs of all students.” In its first year, Warrior Stadium hosted the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s & Women’s Soccer Championships. The facility hosted three major championships in 2010-11: the CCAA Men’s & Women’s Soccer Championships, CCAA Track & Field Championships and the NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships. During its inaugural soccer season, Warrior Stadium is the site of new attendance records for the Cal State Stanislaus men’s and women’s soccer programs. Both teams set new conference and school records in single-game and single-season attendance figures. The Warriors also led all of NCAA Division II in single-game attendance. The track & field program hosted five meets on the Al Brenda Track, including the first Kim Duyst Invitational and the annual Brenda Athletic Clubs High School Invitational.

The arena was renamed for Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick, owners of Valley Lexus/Valley BMW in Modesto and other car dealerships in the Bay Area. The Fitzpatricks contributed $500,000 to the University in 2009. As a result, the California State University Board of Trustees has approved, at the recommendation of University President Ham Shirvani, that the campus’ Warrior Arena be renamed the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. In 1999, the gymnasium took on the name Warrior Arena, 21 years after it was built on the east side of the campus.
