In order to pursue his love for Hope, Billy stows away on the S.S. American with the help of third tier gangster Moonface Martin and his girlfriend Erma as it travels across the Atlantic. Once on board, Billy relies on his friend and nightclub singer Reno Sweeney to court Hope. Reno and Billy use wild disguises and even blackmail to get Hope away from Oakleigh and into Billy’s arms. But things get complicated when Billy doesn’t return Reno’s affections.

ABOUT THE WRITERS
Maybe the biggest name you’ll find attached to Anything Goes is Cole Porter. Porter was a composer and lyricist whose gift for writing music made him an American treasure. By age 6, Porter could play violin and piano and was composing songs by age 10. Porter then went to Yale where he composed around 300 songs and 6 full scale productions. He then roared in the 20s throwing lavish parties that would put Gatsby to shame. He was writing witty lyrics that other writers just couldn’t match and melodies that delighted listeners. By the time 1934 rolled around, Porter was a star on top of his game. He ruled Broadway and Anything Goes was one of his best works. It is based off of a book of the same title written by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse. Howard Lindsey and Russell Crouse also played a large role in writing the book after a cruise ship tragedy made the original plot, where the shipwrecks and the characters are stranded on an island, in bad taste.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
The show you are about to embark on is a 1934 musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. Since its debut in 1934 at the Neil Simon Theater, as it is known now, the musical has been revived several times and filmed twice. People just keep coming back to this, Easy To Love, classic of Cole Porter music and the light hearted fun story that takes place on an ocean liner from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin, aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. Buddie Beware, because, of course, it never goes as planned and the trio has to disguise Billy and find ways to hide him as Billy’s boss, famous Wall Street tycoon Eli Whitney, is also aboard ship. Throw in a gangster’s girl and Hope’s mother who is looking for money in love, and you have yourself one crazy cruise! I would like to thank the many people who made this production possible: I thank my Lord and Savior for giving me and these students a talent that we can use to His glory. Our Head of School, Mr. David Kilgore, for his undying love and support for the arts and providing us a platform for theatre. The Fine Arts Director, Mr. Michael Martell, for supporting every area of our arts department. Our one of a kind Music Director, Mr. Brandon Martell for helping our singing sound great on stage. From your heart to our mouths! To Mrs. George, Tad Gaige (Captain), Ryann Cossey (My ultimate prop dad!), Mr. Pitt, the Weaver family, the Streitmatter family and all the parents who have helped with everything from costumes to meals to make this production amazing! You’re the top! It is so wonderful to be able to partner with such magnificent families. And finally, to my fabulous husband and family for always knowing just what I need, when I need it, and being by my side through everything God puts before us. Cast, I am so proud of you for being awesome and sharing your God given talents! To the audience, I Get A Kick Out Of You, being here tonight! It’s De-Lovely, that you are able experience this cruise where, Anything Goes, when you’re in love! We hope that you will enjoy the SS American and all of the amazing characters so you will take home the memories, All Through The Night, and for many years to come! Anne Marie Gaige

I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.”
MR. TONY VALDES, John, is an English teacher at CCHS. His robust acting career includes playing the part of a nameless train conductor in The Music Man, a nameless diction coach in Singin’ in the Rain, and a nameless doorman in Hello Dolly. With sterling credentials like these, he knows it is only a matter of time before he is cast as Batman in a feature film. Off the stage, Mr. Valdes enjoys obstacle races and chocolate chip cookies. His favorite Bible passage is 1 Corinthians 16:13–14: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. Let all your things be done with charity.”
GRACE WEAVER, Erma, is a Sophomore here at CCHS. Grace loves to sing and perform in musicals and plays. She was Genie in her middle school’s production of Aladdin and was Lady Boxington in Calvary’s My Fair Lady. Off the stage, Grace is a singer in Calvary’s Worship Team and is a member of the Swim Team. She is also in the Student Government Association, Spanish Honor Society, and Thespian Society. She would like to thank God for the opportunity to sing and dance in His name, her family for their never-ending love and support, Mrs. Gaige and Mr. Martell for the months of work they put into Anything Goes and her cast members for putting up with her wheezing and attempts at tap dancing. Grace’s favorite Bible passage is Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
KAERIS WILEY, Angel, is a Junior at CCHS. She has performed in many Calvary productions such as My Fair Lady (Ensemble) and Much Ado About Nothing (Leonata). Off the stage, Kaeris enjoys playing softball and working with kids. Her favorite Bible passage is Psalm 46:5: “God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”
ANNA WILSON, Photographer, Passenger, is a Junior here at CCHS. She has performed in past productions such as, A Gift to Remember (Pam McHugh) and Much Ado About Nothing (Dogberry). Off the stage, Anna is also the secretary of the Photography Club and is a part of the Creative Writing Club. She also enjoys art and music. She would like to thank her family, friends and the cast and crew for helping this production come to life.
SARA WRZESNIEWSKI, Passenger, is a Freshman at CCHS. She has been acting since 7th grade and has been in Annie Jr. (Grace) and Aladdin Jr. (Narrator). Off the stage, Sara has been a member of a choir since 3rd grade, and competed in thespians this year with a small group musical number entitled “She’s in Love” from The Little Mermaid. She also plays on the Varsity Soccer team and is a cheerleader for Calvary. She would like to thank her family, friends and Mrs. Gaige for pushing her to do her best.

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF FINE ARTS
Calvary Christian High School’s Spring Musical is one of the marquee events for the Fine Arts department each year. Producing a Broadway style musical is a significant task and requires students and teachers from the CCHS Drama, Musical Theater, Dance, Choir, Band, and Technical Production programs to collaborate and work cohesively over a fivemonth period of time in preparation for the performances. It is such an encouragement to me to see the dedication and determination of the students and teachers of the Fine Arts department to be able to present this production at such a high level of excellence on a yearly basis. This year, the CCHS Fine Arts department is pleased to present its 2019 Spring Musical, Anything Goes. One thing that has always fascinated me about musicals is that each performance is unique, largely due to the response of the audience to what happens on the stage. It is our hope that you will experience the sights, sounds, emotions, and laughter of this outstanding show! Your presence in the audience today is such an encouragement to our students and faculty because it is a demonstration of your support of what they do. We are grateful you are here! I am proud of the students from each of our fine arts programs who have given countless hours to present this production to you and I am grateful for the dedication of our parent, student, and faculty volunteers who have contributed so much time and energy! The St. Petersburg College Clearwater Campus staff have been wonderful and I am grateful that they have made it possible for our students to perform in such an outstanding venue. I would also like to give a special thanks to Mr. Kilgore, our Head of School, for his consistent enthusiasm and support for the Fine Arts department at CCHS. Congratulations to the cast, crew, and orchestra as well as Drama Director, Mrs. Anne Marie Gaige and Music Director, Mr. Brandon Martell! We hope you enjoy the performance! Michael Martell Director of Fine Arts
