The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values o scholarship, service, leadership and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Second semester Sophomore or Junior
• Unweighted Cumulative GPA of 3.25
• 25 hours of Community Service per year of high school
• Juniors need a total of 75 hours*
• Sophomores need a total of 50 hours*
* Hours must be submitted by January 1 to be considered for eligibility.
NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY
The NEHS motto, “Gelast sceal mid are,” is Old English for: “Duty goes with honor.” The motto represents on of the earliest forms of our language- it affirms and celebrates an obligation to use one’s gifts in service to others. Service to peers, school, and community is part and parcel of the NEHS mission- and, indeed, in the grammatical structure of the Old English phrase, “duty” actually precedes “honor.”
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students in grades 11 or 12 are eligible
• Unweighted Cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
• Unweighted Cumulative English GPA of at least 3.5
• Completion of at least 3 semesters of English at CCHS
MU ALPHA THETA
Mu Alpha Theta is “an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as anintegral part of high school and junior college education.” The name Mu Alpha Thetwas constructed from the Greek lettering for the phonemes m, a, and th.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students in grades 11 or 12 are eligible
• Completion of at least two (2) of the following math classes: Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2
• Minimum Unweighted GPA of 3.0 in those math classes and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in math for all subsequent years of membership
SCIENCE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
“SNHS is a prominent scientific organization that will engender a new group of young thinkers who will be the future of industry, research, and scientific exploration for America.”
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students in grades 11 or 12 are eligible
• Unweighted Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
• Currently enrolled in an Honors or AP level science course and must maintain that advanced level coursework for all years of membership
• Maintain an A or B in your Advanced Science classes for all years of membership
RHO KAPPA HONOR SOCIETY
The Florida Council for the Social Studies established an academic honor society for juniors and seniors. Students must demonstrate excellent academic performance, provide service toward their school or community, and exhibit the attributes of leadership and good citizenship.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students in grades 11 or 12 are eligible
• Juniors must have completed 2.5 credits of Social Studies with a 3.5 Unweighted GPA
• Seniors must have completed 3.5 credits of Social Studies with a 3.5 Unweighted GPA
ASL HONOR SOCIETY
“The primary missionof the ASLHS is to recognize high academic achievement in ASLstudies for high school and college/university students and encourage the use of the language along with life long learning and language enjoyment.”
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students in grades 11 or 12 are eligible
• Studied ASL for at least two (2) years
• Overall weighted GPA of at least 3.5 in ASL Courses
• Cumulative weighted GPA of at least 3.2
• Completion of at least five hours of community service that benefits the deaf community
• Remain in an ASL class in order to maintain membership
• Students who have taken the highest level of ASL that CCHS offers [ASL 4 Honors] prior to their senior year may maintain honorary membership and be permitted to wear cords at graduation
LA SOCIEDAD HONORARIA HISPÁNICA
“The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.”
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students in grades 10, 11, or 12 are eligible
• Have taken at least 3 semesters of Spanish, at the high school level, and currently taking at least Spanish 2
• Weighted cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 in Spanish classes
• Remain in Spanish class in order to maintain membership
• Students who have taken the highest level of Spanish CCHS offers [AP Spanish] prior to their senior year may maintain honorary membership and be permitted to wear cords at graduation
INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN SOCIETY
“The ITS group at each school is known as a troupe. The troupe is the school’s theatre honor society, and students can earn induction based on their achievements in its theatre program. The ITS point system helps track student work in performance, tech, and production staff categories. Inductees must earnpoints over the course of more than one production and in more than one discipline.”
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Students must earn 10 points (the equivalent of 100 hours of excellent work).
• Induction points must be earned over the course of more than one production. At CCHS, this means that all students applying for induction must participate in both the Fall Play and the Spring Musical.
• Students must attend the monthly troupe meetings. Irregular attendance will jeopardize membership.
