“The word poetic is a treacherous one to apply to any artist, but Paterson’s is a poetry of knowledge and mystery, cosmicomically rendered.” The Guardian There is Hope

With FAR, McGregor takes a fascinating creative journey inspired by the controversial Age of Enlightenment and by the 18th century French philosopher Diderot’s very first set of encyclopaedia.

“If any artist has defined the decade – It’s Wayne McGregor.” The Times www.randomdance.org

Katie Paterson: In Another Time is the largest, most comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s work in the UK to date. Works presented at the Mead Gallery include letters of condolence for the death of stars, an archive of darkness from throughout the universe, and light bulbs specially created to simulate moonlight. From transmitting Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata to the moon and back, to providing a live phone line to a melting glacier, much of Katie Paterson’s work uses everyday technologies - from doorbells to record players – to make a connection between humanity and vast, intangible natural phenomena. Strangely intimate and inherently romantic, her work provides a poetic examination of the origins of time and space which is both understated and monumental.

Thu 2 May – Sat 22 Jun

The exhibition also includes Nils Norman’s customised Bus Shelter 2015 where advertising spaces publicise impending environmental disasters and propose micro-solutions for living in a flood zone, making your own diesel and combating West Nile Virus. Working with engineering students at the University of Warwick, Norman has also adapted the roof to host a garden: an illustration of how the city’s green spaces might look in the future. Artists’ Plans for Sustainability features Joseph Beuys’ Lemon Light/Capri Battery of 1985 – considered to be one of the artist’s last great works - in which a yellow light bulb is powered by a fresh lemon. In just a few more decades, the world’s population will exceed 9 billion, 70% of which will live in cities. Across the world, artists are proposing innovative and radical alternatives to change behaviours and ensure a more resilient and sustainable way of life.

Lionboy

Is Tiddler telling the truth? Will Monkey find his Mummy? Will George The Giant make lots of friends? Can the old lady really squash and squeeze all those animals in?

When Charlie’s parents are kidnapped, he sets off on a rescue mission - with a little help from a floating circus and its pride of performing lions. Award-winning theatre company Complicite presents its first show for young people, inspired by Zizou Corder’s bestselling Lionboy trilogy and with a cast including Adetomiwa Edun from the BBC’s Merlin.

Age: 8+

Under the sea, out on the farm and into the jungle, these terrific tales are woven together with live music, puppetry and a whole host of colourful characters from their best-loved titles: Tiddler, Monkey Puzzle, The Smartest Giant in Town and A Squash and a Squeeze. Funky moves, toe tapping tunes and giggles are guaranteed!

All Zain wants to do is dance, but his family, the local fascists and his two left feet are getting in the way. From the award-winning theatre company that brought you the 2011 smash hit musical Britain’s Got Bhangra, Rifco Arts and Watford Palace Theatre present Break the Floorboards - a new dance drama. Fusing the captivating dance styles of Bollywood and Street, this is the tale of one young boy’s attempts to escape the grim reality of his recession-hit hometown and turn his life into the glittering world of his Bollywood fantasies.

The adventure starts with a letter from the Lionboy himself. His parents have been kidnapped, he’s setting off to rescue them and needs help. Over five weeks, prompted by regular letters from Charlie (newly written by Zizou Corder), your class will sleuth, detect, write stories, draw pictures and come up with outlandish ideas to get Charlie and his parents safely home.

“Comes perilously close to genius and announces Horton as a major major talent.”

The Festival runs from the 10th to the 15th June and will feature inspirational authors, magical storytelling, creative workshops, drama, films, reading picnics, quizzes and workshops. But for the whole of the summer term, for schools keen on inspiring children and young people to watch, listen to and read great stories, Warwick Arts Centre will be screening films and presenting theatre and dance based on much loved books and stories. We want children to enjoy coming to the theatre and cinema and be inspired to curl up with a good book too!

Valentijn Dhaenens has received universal critical acclaim and been described as a one-man powerhouse for his thrilling and virtuoso performance in BigMouth. Using fragments of well-known and lesser known speeches, he shows that in 2500 years, the tricks of the trade have hardly changed and that whilst the absolute truth doesn’t exist, it is just a pretty lie for those who aspire to world power or just the hand of their beloved.

Meet the actor Tue 21 May Stay behind after the show and meet Valentijn Dhaenens to discover how BigMouth was created and what it means to perform it alone.

So please, sit down and join Andy at his table, as you play with remote control cars, action men, puppets and your own imaginations to complete your own version of the film Predator and finally finish off what Andy started when he was five.

They would watch the film religiously thereafter and began creating their own version. What started out as a scene-for-scene re-creation soon turned into their own re-imagining, unfortunately they never managed to finish what they had started.
