warwickartscentre.co.uk box office 024 7652 4524
HELLO This October is Warwick Arts Centre’s 40th birthday, and while names and technology may have changed, we still strive to present a comprehensive mix of the best, most engaging world cinema and the most original and absorbing English-language film. Certain names recur throughout: John Le Carré’s novels have been regularly adapted for the screen and his latest manifestation, A Most Wanted Man is a typically tense psychological thriller graced by the final screen appearance of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Woody Allen has also been with us throughout, and Magic in the Moonlight finds him harking back to the drawing room whodunit of the 1920s with Colin Firth leading a cast of stalwart Brits. To Catch a Thief, Salvatore Giuliano and Zulu are back on the big screen in all their glory celebrating a rich cinematic heritage, and Helen Mirren, David Tennant and Imelda Staunton feature in a swathe of glorious new British comedies. Of the more recent developments, Scandinavian cinema continues to evolve. While The Keeper of Lost Causes presents a more orthodox Nordic Noir thriller, In Order of Disappearance is a fresh take on ‘man against the mob’ and two Danish directors Lone Scherfig (An Education, Italian for Beginners) and Susanne Bier (Brothers, Love is All You Need) direct new English language films, The Riot Club and Serena. Here’s to the next 40 years. Let us know about your most memorable experiences as a filmgoer at Warwick Arts Centre by tweeting @warwickartsfilm, or by posting a comment on our website.
