THE ENTERPRISE REVOLUTION Warwickshire College Group is committed to developing entrepreneurial skills and attributes in all its students. Employability is an important aspect of all higher education programmes, but at Warwickshire College Group we like to do more than help to get our graduates into a job. Today’s job market is dynamic and ever changing. We believe that to be successful throughout their working life, graduates need a range of skills and attributes – together called an entrepreneurial mindset. These qualities enable graduates to move from job to job or progress up the career ladder, being adaptable to the changes and challenges they meet on the way. Some of the jobs could be in selfemployment, and challenges may include knowing when to go it alone and when to work in partnership. Specialist lecturers use a variety of methods to supplement lectures so students get the support they need as well as providing opportunities for self-learning and discovery complimented by peer discussion and debate. Whole college events support subject specific delivery; all first year students come together in our unique day-long Student Symposiums. In the environment of a professional conference, our students have the opportunity to learn and practise new skills in a fun and ‘safe’ environment – safe because if anyone performs below their own expectations it does not count towards marks but instead provides valuable experience. At Warwickshire College Group we happily put the emphasis on hands-on learning. WE’RE WELL CONNECTED It’s not always what you know - it’s also who you know. Luckily, Warwickshire College Group is well known for its strong links with industry, and this is clear when it comes to our degrees. We are often approached by businesses who put forward live briefs for our students to work on, and we have excellent input from industry on a whole range of lessons, master classes and placement opportunities. Our specialist employer areas include engineering, IT, business, leadership and management, social care, early years, computing, horticulture and more.

BIGGER ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER Take our smaller class sizes for example – they allow you to train and study in a more focused environment. You benefit from more one-toone time with your lecturer or instructor and it's easier to get to know your classmates. So in this case, smaller is definitely better. The smaller class sizes also allow us to tailor your course to suit you. We can pick up on your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes and work around a learning style that’ll suit you and help you get the best grades you can. FLEXIBILITY IS KEY When it comes down to it we can all be a bit choosy, and when you’re making a decision as important as this, you need to have the right options available to you. That’s why we offer a diverse range of courses from BA (Hons) to Foundation degrees, HNCs and HNDs. We also offer the opportunity to study part-time and by distance learning, helping you earn as you learn, further your career and ultimately enhance your future prospects. Warwickshire College Group has been awarded the highest score of ‘confidence’ by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for academic standards and learning opportunities.

FOUNDATION DEGREE AWARDING POWERS Warwickshire College Group has become only the fourth college in the UK to be granted powers by the Privy Council to award its own Foundation degrees. A Foundation degree is equivalent in size and status to the first two years of a traditional Honours degree but is deliberately vocationallybased, preparing students for higher technician and associate professional roles. Accordingly, the Foundation degree courses include either learning in the workplace or substantial work placements. The new Foundation Degree Awarding Powers (FDAP) allow us to offer the qualifications without requiring a university partner. Before granting such powers the college was subject to a yearlong scrutiny by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) in order to demonstrate we are a “well-founded, cohesive and self-critical academic community that demonstrates firm guardianship of its standards”. All universities are subject to similar scrutiny before being granted the powers to award Honours degrees. The award of FDAP acknowledges the significant role that Warwickshire College Group plays in delivering excellent higher education courses and is the culmination of over three years of hard work by the college. The award serves to demonstrate that the college’s higher education quality and standards are equal to any university in the country.

We can now begin to design our own Foundation degrees that uniquely meet the needs of local employer partners and give our students the chance to develop the high-level work-related knowledge and skills required. Many existing courses will not change as we have developed excellent collaborative links with partner universities that serve both students and employers well, but these powers give us the flexibility to be responsive to local and national needs. Warwickshire College Group currently offers over 70 Foundation degrees and full Honours degrees validated by a number of university partners, with over 1000 students currently studying for higher education qualifications with the college. See pages 32-79 for a complete list of all our current Foundation degrees on offer.

STUDENT LIFE YOUR STUDENTS’ UNION From Freshers’ Fair to fundraising, club nights to day trips, there’s loads going on thanks to your students' union (SU). The SU is made up of a group of elected students whose job is to entertain you, represent you and look out for your rights and needs. They will make sure your experience at college is the best it can be and run an exciting and growing programme of events and activities. When you join Warwickshire College Group you automatically become a member of the students’ union, giving you access to SU events and other services on campus – including Freshers’ Ball and live music nights, wireless internet network, print room, libraries and support centre.

SPORTS AND MORE... We’re proud to offer a wide programme of competitive sports including rugby, football, netball, hockey, golf, clay shooting, basketball, wheelchair basketball and badminton. We recruit at all levels of ability, from beginners to county players. The college also has Sportmakers who provide regular exciting opportunities in sport and physical activity, volunteering and coaching, to help students develop skills for life and enjoy their time at college. LEISURE AND FITNESS CLASSES We also offer our students a fun range of sports, leisure and fitness classes, including Pilates, Zumba, circuit training, ballroom dancing, archery, kick boxing and more. Most classes are free of charge to students so why not check them out? SPORTING EVENTS There is a Riding Academy and Club based at Moreton Morrell College which is open to all Warwickshire College Group students to join. Race ways – Are you a runner? There’s discounted entry for our students and events take place on our grounds all year. Athletes’ day – every year we bring our six colleges together to compete in track and field. Academy weekend – If you’re a fan of rugby or netball, then this is the weekend for you. Come along and get involved! NIGHTLIFE Not only can you enjoy the on-campus bars which run popular events such as Bavarian Beer Party, Back to School, Rave and Live Music Nights, but the towns and cities on your doorstep offer a huge choice of fantastic nightlife.

Students can choose from sophisticated wine bars and restaurants, to cheesy and trendy nightclubs, traditional pubs and large professional music venues and theatres. HE COURSE TASTER DAYS We host a selection of days that are subject specific. Currently we run days for Equine, Horticulture, Veterinary Nursing and Animal Management. Dr Richard Pearce lectures in Animal Science and Veterinary Nursing at Warwickshire College Group. Richard is an animal ecologist, specialising in conservation biology. Studying environmental science to masters level, he then completed his doctoral research on ecosystem ecology, focusing on the role of animal species in the transfer of pollutants from human activity. Richard has participated in field expeditions to Africa and has presented his research on the international conference scene. He is a member of the British Arachnological Society and specialises in spider ecology, with an abiding passion for biodiversity of all kinds. With experienced lecturers and substantial support from professional industry workers, established practices in filmmaking are put into practice to produce short films, work for TV and videos.

Students up for top award... A short film by students from Warwickshire College Group was nominated for a prestigious Royal Television Society (RTS) Award. The film – Aeternum Vale – described as a romance set in a dystopian future – was made by four students – Richard Davis, Miro Pavlovic, Dane Camille and Tom Osborn – on the college’s HND Digital Film Production course as their final major project. The film took five months to complete, with the students working on every element generating ideas, research, script-writing, auditions, casting, filming and editing. Upon hearing the film had been shortlisted, Richard said, “ Getting a nomination for something as prestigious as the RTS is a big deal, so I’m really excited for myself and the group to get the recognition for all the hard work we put in.” Richard has also had success with some of his other work. He was nominated in the 2013 Newport International Film Festival with his film ‘BUCK’, and the Celluloid Screams Competition 2013 with his film ‘Happy Birthday’.

No This Pershore College Diploma is designed to be studied part-time and is ideal for those interested in a career change. This course suits those with a real interest in horticulture and who want to study at Higher Education level. Using our organically certified facilities, students develop a sound knowledge of organic principles and standards. This is a broad-based course aimed at those who aspire to grow edible crops organically or manage organic gardens. Sophie Sidaway’s unique business idea will see the production of the first commercial crop of Juneberries in the UK. Sophie, a HNC student at Pershore College, put forward her proposal for growing the novel fruit crop to the college’s Enterprise Board. The Board gave full support with a grant to purchase and import the initial plant stock from Canada and by making land at Pershore available for establishing the initial crop. Juneberries taste delicious, resembling dark cherry or raisin, with a hint of almond in the tiny, soft seed. They also have high nutritional qualities similar to established ‘superfoods’ such as blueberries with high levels of protein, calcium, iron, and antioxidants. Sophie said, “it was great to benefit from the college’s Enterprise Grant designed to help business start-ups, and to be offered a half-acre plot for 5 years, as well as access to equipment and expertise was a dream come true!”

MONEY MATTERS INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE Did you know that people with a degree earn an average of £12,000 a year more than people without a degree?

PART-TIME COURSES Fees for part-time study are usually based on the full-time fees for a similar course, less £500, divided pro rata.

Our course fees are competitive and you’ll notice they are much lower than the average university. Plus many students are eligible for financial support.

For example, if it costs £5,960 for a full-time Foundation degree consisting of six modules per year, then a student taking three modules per year would then pay one half of £5,460 giving an annual fee of £2,730.

No matter what course you choose to study, when it comes to fees you can be sure of one thing - you are getting real value for money. FULL-TIME COURSES In 2015/16 most first year higher education students will be charged a fee of £7,210 or less depending on the subject they are studying.
