intro • s.a.c. volunteers needed • bone marrow registration • the big sports challenge 2010 • campus room clearance
The sun is shining, students are celebrating the end of exams out on the Piazza and your Sabbs are getting ready to pack up our worldly belongings and leave the bubble for the last time. On behalf of the entire team, I’d like to thank all of you for making this year so memorable. It’s been a year of many changes for the Union - a new building, brand new end-of-year events and, of course, a challenging financial backdrop. Many of you had your say in The Big 5 survey and although we have already begun working on your feedback, it now falls to the incoming team to see that what we offer caters to your needs. But it’s not over yet - we’ve got the first-ever Graduation Ball to look forward to, an amazing lineup for the Summer Party and the Warwick Student Arts Festival. If you haven’t bought your Summer Party tickets yet - get on it! Enjoy the last few days of term, whether you’re returning after the summer vacation or not. If you are graduating, congratulations! University is an amazing time it goes all too quickly. Wishing you all the best, Andrew
campus rooms clearance At the end of every academic year, £1000s of clothes, books and other items are left behind in campus residences. Without intervention, the majority of this is incinerated. Warwick Volunteers has been working to reduce the environmental impact of this waste, recycle items, and recover stock of significant value to support a range of local and international charities. In 2009 over 16 tonnes of donations were collected, sorted and redistributed! Volunteers are needed to help with collecting and sorting donations for the Undergraduate Campus Rooms Clearance on:

bone marrow registration Warwick Marrow (a joint project between Medical School students and the Anthony Nolan Trust) are coming to main campus to get as many people signed onto a bone marrow register as possible. It’s simple to do: check you meet the criteria, complete a questionnaire and give a blood sample. You’ll then be put onto the Anthony Nolan Register. Learn more on their website! As matches for transplants are most likely to be found within an individual’s ethnic group, it’d be great if there was a wide mix of ethnicities attending.

the crash top 40 It’s been another year of hard rocking here at Crash HQ, and as always we’re asking YOU to help pick the tunes for the final event of Term 3. Last year, Rage Against the Machine romped to victory with a typically ebullient display of shouting and swearing, but as always there’s a wealth of noisy contenders nipping at their heels.
This year’s massive summer blowout takes place right here on campus in Week 10, and it’s already shaping up to be the most unmissable event in the Warwick calendar. We’ve pulled out all the stops to bring you a varied bill of live acts, covering a range of genres from indie (The Courteeners, Bombay Bicycle Club), hip-hop (DJ Yoda, Chiddy Bang), dance (Chicane, Dog & Pony vs. Eve), rock (Funeral For a Friend), pop (Girls Can’t Catch) and everything in-between. Many other Unis’ summer events have just one of these acts as their headliner - you get the whole lot! On top of that, there’s a free funfair and inflatable zone featuring a waltzer, dodgems, bouncy castle, foam washing machine, penalty shoot-out and more, together with Curiositea’s naughty spin-off tent, your chance to win a car and loads of different food and drink offers throughout the day. If you’re feeling really hardcore, you can also try braving the after-party in The Copper Rooms until 5am! It’s open to all Warwick students irrespective of yeargroup, and looks set to be a spectacular send-off to the summer term. Check out the full details at www.warwicksu.com/summer/party - tickets for this huge event are still available at £35 a pop!
Make sure you vote online by searching for ‘Crash Top 40 2010’ on Facebook, and we’ll see you in Week 9 for the countdown and one final Hokey Cokey!

the top b top 40 …And as if one bout of musical democracy wasn’t enough, we’ll be doing the exact same thing for the year’s final Top Banana. Kings of Leon’s ‘sex’ was very much on fire this time last year as they bagged the #1 spot, though Sidney Samson could well deliver a cheeky ‘Riverside, motherhubbard!’ their way on the big night. Again, check out the ‘Top B Top 40 2010’ Facebook group and pick your 5 favourites from the shortlist - we’ll count them down from start to finish at the last Top B of term!
supervisors + helpers wanted Can you work well under pressure? Do you have what it takes to be part of a team? Want to be a part of a very exciting and important moment in a student’s time here at University? Warwick SU is looking for Freshers Supervisors and Freshers Helpers to assist at the start of next year with everything from the moving-in weekend to Sports and Societies Fairs. For more information, check out: www.warwicksu.com/freshers. If you think you’ve got what it takes to keep everything running smoothly and you’re up to the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
question time
question time: end of an era As the Sabbatical Officers prepare for their last month in office (which consists mainly of training the Sabb Elects how not to repeat their mistakes!), they look back at their time here at Warwick as we ask them...
sumaiya Make the most of your time here - it’ll be over before you know it. Remember that University is so much more than studying; it’s for discovering new passions, new hobbies and making new friends. In Lord George Byron’s famous last words: ‘Now I shall go to sleep. Goodnight’.
james Warwick is an amazing and unique place which I won’t ever forget. Since coming here, I have done things I’d never have imagined and been involved in so many incredible initiatives. I even managed to get a degree amongst all the other stuff. The only problem with four years at Warwick is that you blink and you’ve missed it, so make the most of it while it lasts - it’s a scary world out there! Never again will I have a job which combines stamping safe-sex messages on drunk people, helping people solve housing repair problems, and doing litter picks in community parks. It’s been a blast. Au revoir to all my new friends!
andy New Sabbs: make some time for yourself. As soon as term hits you’ll be so rushed off your feet that you won’t be able to do what you want to unless you set specific time aside. But, most of all, enjoy the ride. You’ll have a great time next year, but it’ll fly by. Don’t waste a second!
The University only listens to you when it wants to and constant emails & meetings stop you doing real work! Thank goodness the Summer Party is going to be AWESOME!
isaac I came, I saw, I conquered (and then decided to stay for an extra year, which was exciting): I have hit rock-bottom, been on Cloud 9 and everywhere in-between. Never has it been truer than this year that it is the people who make the place. To those who made me love it - I owe you.
Good Night and Good Luck.
Don’t forget to keep an eye on www.warwicksu.com for details of all the exciting things we’ve got lined up for you next year!
