Introduction RySS has up scaled the GULI RAGI promotion in 60 ZBNF clusters in 4 north coastal districts (East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srirakulam) of Andhra Pradesh. For this initiative, Sanjeevini and WASSAN expressed their interest to associate with RYSS for the promotion of GULI RAGI in 60 clusters by targeting 6000 acres in 3 seasons.

Component Wise Report 1. CBO Capacity Building 1.1 CRPs training on GULI ragi system: On 19th and 20th April organized a two-day TOT training for the 60 CRPs of 60 clusters from 4 ITDAs of North coastal tribal area. In this training DPM of Viziangaram and Visakhapatnam, two Agriculture officers from Paderu and Parvathipuram were attended. Resource persons: Mr. Devullu, Ms. Ammaji ( Sanjeevini) and Mr. Narsing Rao and Sunny from WASSAN. In these two days of training, participants were discussed about the current average yield and the existing pattern of millet cultivation and millet coverage area in each cluster was also estimated. Some of the CRPs have made an indent for Ragi seed requirement, so Sanjeevini and WASSAN helped in sourcing the seeds for such clusters. After the TOT training, cluster level trainings for farmers have organized by the ICRPs and concerned ECRPs. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL PRACTICE AND GULI RAGI PRACTICE.

2. Orientation on Custom Hiring Centers  12th July 2019, organized a meeting with 21 VOs of ITDA Paderu. Oriented the establishment of Custom Hiring center in each ZBNF cluster and management of material which is used in SRI RAGI cultivation. In this meeting, PO ITDA Paderu had attended and supported the 200 liters capacity plastic drums for each ZBNF cluster. Training held at YTC Paderu.  23rd July 2019, organized a meeting with 13 VOs of ITDA RC Varam. Oriented the establishment of Custom Hiring center in each ZBNF cluster and management of material which is used in SRI RAGI cultivation. Venue of the training is KVK Pandiri Mamidi  10th August 2019, organized a meeting with 10 VOs of ITDA Seethampeta. Oriented the establishment of Custom Hiring center in each ZBNF cluster and management of material which is used in SRI RAGI cultivation. Training held at VELUGU NGO office, Kothuru.

3. 3. Training to local fabricators and cycle weeders:  Planned to supply of 10 Cycle weeders in each VOs and oriented the women leaders on use material on hiring system within the village with commonly agreed nominal charges among them.  Organized Entrepreneurs training for the welder (Blacksmiths) on the fabrication of cycle weeders. 3 entrepreneurs had shown interest to make cycle weeders as per the design discussed with WASSAN engineers.  Above 3 entrepreneurs were participated in the bidding for the supply of cycle weeders to the selected ZBNF clusters. A welder from Sri SAI LAKSHMI GANAPATHI Steels finally selected as L1 for the supply of cycle weeders.  As on 31st August, 100 cycle weeders have been supplied to 10 ZBNF clusters.

Review and Monitoring 30th April 2019 held a review meeting with ICRP of 60 clsuters at Paderu. Adivsir, Sri Vijayakumar garu shared the overall concept of promoting GULI ragi in ZBNF clusters and importance of adapting multiple cropping system within the GULI ragi crop field. Advisor sir asked Sanjeevini and WASSAN to sit with ICRPs and prepare action plan along with ICRPs. (Annexure - 1)

On 20th August, ITDA PO Paderu, conducted a review on GULI RAGI promotion in tribal area. In this meeting DA Mallikharjuna, SRPs Devullu and Ammaji from Sanjeevini and Sunny and Narsinga Rao from WASSAN participated. PO has suggested to conduct special trainings to build concept of ZBNF and custom hiring center at VO level. As a fallow up action prepared 5 days training schedule for VOs and planned to organize trainings from 4th Sept to 10th September 2019. SRI RAGI coverage as of today i.e., 31st August 2019. A total of 845 acres covered under SRI RAGI by 1572 farmers of 46 clusters. District wise clusters

Few more farmers ready with nurseries, they will do transplantation in first and second week of September. Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts are potential for rabi season. Apart from RAGI also tried line sowing method on Andukorra and Barnyard millets in smaller plots of Chithalaveedi, Kuntrala villages of Kuntarla cluster.
