Irreantum Watch Co. w/ETA-2824 ...

FWIW, I've been looking at Doxa SUB's for years (and years) ... ... and I could never quite bring myself to spend over $1,500~$2,000+ for a Ă˜=43mm watch ... ... even IF it does have an 'elaborately-decorated' Swiss ETA 2824 Auto! ...

(Big KUDOS to Mr. "T Bone", SIR! - A self-described "DOXAholic" over on www.watchuseek.com!)

So, yesterday, when I TOTALLY stumbled across Irreantum Watch Company, ...

... ... I was amazed to learn that, for months, they've had a Doxa-Diver-ish 'Work-In-Progress'; i.e., ... ... their Ă˜=46mm "Magellan" with ETA-2824 Auto scheduled for release 'late summer!' ... ... Anyway, I 'put a deposit down' on a Carbon Fiber LE (w/No. I reserved!) ... ... and MAY also have the mirror-polish finish I prefer! ...

For me, a watch w/THAT look, that's a no. LE, w/CF & Super-Luminova C3, and a LARGER case size ... ... w/engraved bezel for approx. 1/4 the cost of a DOXA (!) is a DNB - Definite NO-Brainer! ...

d'oh! ... ... BTW, I think they also offer BLACK PVD Finish for an additional $50!

NB: As usual, ANY/all

ARE greatly appreciated! ...

That's a great looking diver Larry, I really like it a lot. I've always been a sucker for divers

with the crown at the 4:00 and big luminescent markers. It's definitely a hommage to the Doxa design, but the case size is better, crown position's better, hand shapes are better, and the bezel markings are better (wish they were luminescent like the Deep Blue though.) Less printing on the dial makes the CF look sooo clean... I'd choose your watch over the Doxa if they were the same price! Congrats on finding it, you've got a real winner coming your way! __________________

Thanks, Charlie! ... BTW, those "Plongeur" Hands are what 'put me over the edge' on this watch; i.e., ... ... I thought they looked MUCH better than Doxa's!

Then, the 'slathering' of SuperLuminova C3 really made me start Jonesin' the "Magellan" even MORE! ... ... Well, THAT plus the bigger size and the CF dial!

Anyway, I'm sure you know that Doxa DOES offer a "Tritium Vial" timepiece, ...

... but their "SUB-800Ti" is ALSO $2400 smackaroo's - with the same Swiss ETA 2824 + TRITIUM!

(NB: This watch, although certainly nice, is almost 5 TIMES the cost of the 'Magellan' - w/same ETA 2824!)

NB: I own several H3 Gastube watches and, IMHO, although they're certainly readable all-night long, ... ... I'm able to obtain an even BRIGHTER glow (w/night-long persistence!) on my SuperLuminova watches ... ... FYI, I just have to "Flash" 'em ahead of time for 3~4 secs - w/my U/V flashlight!

Besides, w/SuperLuminova I don't have to worry about "H3 Tritium Isotope Decay" (ƛ) ... ... where the H3 Tubes lose half their 'radiance' every 11 years or so! __________________

Wow she is a beauty of a watch I really like the bracelet design it has a real rugged look to it (unique), a better look than the one on the Doxa IMO. Like CharlieB said you've got a real winner there and the price is nothing short of spectacular that's a lot of watch for the money congrats. I've add this company to my favorites on the computer, I will have to keep a very close eye on them for sure thanks for all the info... __________________

No doubt about it - DOXA's ARE beautiful timepieces! Heck, that's why I've been lookin' at 'em for years! ... ... But I really didn't want to make that large of an investment on a watch! ... Esp. since I feel that, when compared to the $500 "Magellan", the $1500+ DOXA Sub's have the same movement, ... ... but it's housed in a slightly smaller case with a somewhat 'busier' dial (that has a 'subdued' luminosity), ... ... and indices/hands that aren't nearly as prominent as the 'Plongeurs' on the Magellan! _______________________________ ⌘ _______________________________ PLUS the 'Magellan' has its (screw-down) crown nicely-recessed 'at-the-four'; i.e., ... ... yet another 'feature' that, IMHO, is a mustah-gotta-have! ...

_______________________________ ⌘ _______________________________ Of course, that's just my 3¢ on the situation and I understand that 'your mileage may vary!' ... ... Regardless, I DO appreciate your input and I 10 Q BD MUCH!

Larry buy the Doxa! That was easy, now that I'm spending your money. LOL! Actually Doxa is a very small company if I'm not mistaken. Unlike like the big boys there isn't a huge finical backing so prices have a tendency to be a little higher than they should be. But think of it this way. Your helping support the underdog. LOL! I was really digging that Black/Orange Doxa, but what you got your hands on was just as nice looking. I probably would of done the same thing, spend 1/4 less money and still have a nice watch to enjoy. Enjoy your new timepiece. So, what number did you get? I didn't read your original post right. I though you got #1 but I think it was an "I" and not a "1". __________________

that is a beautiful watch and a great price point. but it doesn't look like a Doxa to me.. at least not the Clive Cussler type model Doxa..seems like apples & oranges to me.. pick up that one and enjoy it..but it won't be confused for a Doxa. I actually think the Magellan is a better looking watch. For the price difference, it is a no brainer. I have always thought that when you have two products that compare close to dead even, why pay more for a name. rayfan View Public Profile Send a private message to rayfan Find all posts by rayfan Add rayfan to Your Contacts #24 07-02-2010, 11:25 AM
