Thanx Cyberhick I am ok with it as far as the compliments I appreciate those as well! I like the bike but I just dont see it as the best I have been in and out of this bike and it is not that great! Technolgy wise very souns but it is ugly and cheaply built. This is why it is being built the way a real cruiser should be built! Well at least in my mind! Twisted mind Huh!!! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! THANK GOD!!!!

Very nice! What you thought of it (stock) doesn't matter ... all that matters is what you think of it after you're done, which as best I can tell will be a phenominal example of what one can do with the right knowledge and budget behind it to actualize the vision. __________________ Aaron 2005 VTX 1300C - Black

Question was posed why A Rigid Well In My opinion which means nothing to anyone but me there are several bikes out there now that have been completely customized To wich none of them I completely liked. I like alot of things about them but none where in my mind that ultimate clean look. So to accomplish that look In my mind the The bike had to be a Rigid That is why the sheetmetal work that I did incorperates the rear fender it makes the bike look seamless!Example the back half of acrotechs bike dosnt look right to me Very chopped up GREAT looking Bike just not my style! Mr Nasty the sheetmetal work on his bike is great But it didnt go all the way down to the Lower frame of the bike here again great looking bike but looks unfinished to me And I assure you I couldnt have done it either unless I made it a Rigid! One other Item that will seperate me from the others there WILL NOT be a Radiator sitting in front of my Down tubes it isnt going to happen. I just got back from the body shop. Where I converted a big Dog kickstand into the stock kickstand location that turned out quite nice! There will be more to come stay tuned! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! Just MHO here, but I would have gone with a full rear fender with Frenched-in tail light/blinkers. The bobbed-rear fender has been done to death and has become standard-fodder for every "custom" out there. Also, I'd have gone with a soft-tail air suspension. To me, a rigid is nothing more than a bike-night bar ride. Dare to be different. Otherwise, boffo effort thus far. __________________ Tombstone (AMA # 282162) United States Air Force RETIRED 2007 Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom Bike Name: Suzy-Q / Sweet Sue "I am the Anti-Chrome!" I really like the job that you have done. The paint is very nice. My only question is how do you plan to get to the items located behind the side covers? Most of it is cool from the top but in mycase I have my Power commander and the fuses and electrical connectors behind the right cover. __________________ Ric Walsh

Well Tomkat you where not on my list but sense you spelling is so good and mine is so bad you would think that you would have a better paying job. But here is the real truth the bottom line is I am a design engineer and not a spelling teacher and my wife is a salesperson! and each of us make nearly $100k a year, and we dont have any kids! Now go sleep with you ugly A$$ Husky Dog and have a nice day!

Rick54 The answer to you question is this when I cut the back half of the bike off I widened the seat platform by 3.5" and therefore I plan on rewiring the bike and relocating the fuses this will take some thought and strategic relocations but just because I cant spell dosnt mean I can think! That was a slam to Tomkat not you Rick sorry I felt it just fit right there! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! THANK GOD!!!!

All work is being done by yours trully the only thing I dont do is Paint well accept I did paint the motor on this project my first attempt at painting went fairly well! As far as keeping the bike cool there is a radiator in fact there are two heat exchangers but one of them is a traditional radiator, the other is a plate style heat exchanger that one is a polished aluminum piece that fits behing the down tubes in the front sheetmetal that I put in! This will give the bike the clean look that I so desire in the X something IMHO still has not been done! I actullay dont know if it will completely work based on some testing that was done by my local radiator manufaturer the same one that built the smaller radiator that HAL has still sitting by his desk I presume, the cooling compacity of my system has 85% of the cooling capabiliies as the stock system! Now I dont have any real world proof this is sufficient but based on my calculations and my manufacturers calcs this will work fine! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! I'm afraid the 4.5 will be too small, from an aesthetical standpoint. Either way the stocker HAS to go. BTW, the bike looks great so far. Keep your head up and realize the people who flame you are just jealous! __________________ Just say no to tank trim. Better yet, just say no to tank seams altogether.

Don I will indeed post one next week sometime I appreciate your compliments I am pretty thick skinned and I also have no problem with flames either! I pondered the same thing for weeks but after all was said and done with my renderings I felt that the 4 1/2 had a touch more sleekness to it which was the look I was trying to achieve! I think on a stock bike the 5 3/4" headlight would be the right decision, Because that stocker is indeed UGLY!!! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! THANK GOD!!!!

Stumpy, My "mission" here is not to bash Ron's VTX, I'm not in the VTX bashing business Ron is, which is my single contention with Ron (and I'm sure the contention of others on this board as well). Ron has come on "our" board (VTX enthusiasts) and ripped the VTX up one side and down the other all the while making irrational comparisons between one off and low volume "big twins" (Harley clone motor customs) that cost $25k on up to $100k+ and the stock high volume Honda VTX which retails for $12k+ new and has been known to have been sold new for as little as $7k. Now a days he likes to make posts about what a pain in the @ss it is to get the VTX modified to his styling standard and how easy it would have been had he started with a "big twin" Harley clone motor bike. Some of us here (or at the very least myself) don't see Ron as some kind of a martyr for the custom bike cause just for picking out a bike he despises as a basis for his custom work. I also don't understand others on this board tolerating his constant digs at the VTX for not being something it was never meant or priced to be. Compare the VTX to any other $12k-$15k mass production cruiser and I can understand the rationale for the comparison but compare it to a Big Dog an Iron Horse or someone's one off custom built S&S motor bike and I don't. The VTX has it's pros and cons but the things RiptheVTXRon slams it for on this forum make about the same sense as some one getting on a Honda Accord forum and bashing the Accord for not having the style or richness of materials as Maybach. __________________

If you want to damn me for that Ok no Problem go ahead! I know that I don't and I'm pretty sure that most people on this board don't think that "the VTX is the best bike out there". A lot of folks on this board including myself think that the VTX is one of the best cruisers in it's price range and many would say that it's a little better than that but to say that it is categorically "the best bike out there" is something I've not heard argued on this board. Now if you will excuse me I need to go to the Yamaha R6 messagenet and explain why I think that the R6 has to be one of the worst Trials bikes I've ever encountered (surely that's what those guys are thinking when they are bragging about the R6 being the best aren't they?). __________________ Oh, he's very popular Ed. I see alot of post I beat this bike I beat that bike common its also slow its a v twin metric cruiser, Not a Ducati v twin or an Aprilla v twin it is a metric v twin! I dont hate the bike either If I did I wouldnt own it, But as a stock bike it is so Damn ugly I couldnt stand it so I had to change it to try to make it look good,And if I still dont like the looks I will get rid of it and buy something that I can build to make look good! I Have said this a hundred times I purchased a bike that was inexpensive because at the time I didnt want to pay alot for a bike and then turn around to modify it my way! So I thought that If I bought a metric cruiser I could build it the way I wanted and it would be cheap to do! Boy I should have done more research because I didnt realize that the bike was built so damn cheap and that the frame was so damn ugly! So when all is said and done I made a mistake! But the good thing is After I am done with Big Smooth I can be proud that I made such a ugly bike into something beautiful! See Wantabee I can be positive!

Quit feeding him Ron and get back to finishing the bike! It is looking great. You know the deal on here, if you say the bike is great everyone chimes in and cheers..........if you express an HONEST opinion and don't go with the flow you get flamed. As I have said before I respect your honesty and opinion. Obviously you have ripped the bike down to the frame and back and have seen more of the bikes parts than 90% of those posting here............once they do that I will value thier comments a little more too. Bottom line is the X is not the "end all, be all" in metric cruisers in its price range..........apples to apples here but folks like to think they have made the best choice in thier chosen ride and where better to get a pat on the back for that than here on the VTXOA. I like the looks of mine but there are things I would change given the time and money. But it is still just a bike, a preference, and everyone does not have to agree or we would all be on black S models. I can respect that everyone prefers something different so why all of the emotion? Keep the pics coming man and those that dont' like seeing it can just click the "stop watching topic" at the bottom of the page.

This was your thought in a market where there are four manufacturers of metric cruisers (Asian metric anyway) each of which has produced dozens of different models that fit the "cruiser" mold vs one major American manufacturer whose "Big Twin" has been so popular that there are now dozens of companies making clones of it out of what started as replacement and upgrade parts? Even if you were planning on fabbing everything yourself the best case scenario would have the project just as expensive as building a "non metric" big twin. Factor in how ugly and "cheap" you think the VTX is and the idea of doing it cheaper is just plain foolish due to the sheer scope of the project (if VTXs are ugly it'll have to have a lot of changes in order not to look like one). If you were just thinking of accessorizing a VTX or perhaps doing a mild custom you might do it cheaper but only if VTX itself had a cheaper purchase price than whatever "Big Twin" (complete bike or collection of parts) you were thinking of starting with. My comment about Ron being "contrary" refered to the fact he is getting so much here for having a different opinion on the VTX, really meant in fun, not to insult him. I did not mean it in a bad way nor did I mean to insult your bike. Preference is just what it is, you prefer that and it is your bike so you are the only one your choices have to please. The point was you are calling Ron our "contrary" as his opinions are different from the rest of the tribe and I am saying you can be a "contrary" too for your choices that are different from the tribe...........I worded it wrong if you thought I was cutting your bike. Just pointing out that we all have different preferences and we should all respect each others right to choose. As far as your bags.....my opinion.....I don't like bags of any color myself but if you are going to have them it is refreshing to see something different than the normal black matching leather everywhere........I applaud you for taking the chance and doing something different. txvtx1300 View Public Profile Send a private message to txvtx1300 Find More Posts by txvtx1300 #87

First and foremost Brad and I met after I bought the X and second If my bike looks like a X than I will sell it and start over but I assure you accept for the shaft it will not look like an X. In fact accept for the center of the frame there is nothing that even resembles an X. So please go back to your cardboard box and go to sleep Thanx! P.S. When you build something besides your typical lego tanks,

and your Barbie and ken doll house you can bad mouth my efforts to try to build something different. And when you get into the X as deep as I have than someone on this board might have respect for your opinion but until then go away! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! I honestly feel that the VTXOA has gone downhill at an ever increasing rate over the last year. It seems like every 5th post is either: 1. HD bashing 2. Any other bike but the (almighty) VTX bashing 3. Your opinion doesnt match what I mandate, therefore you are an idiot. 4. I dinked around buying or selling something in the classifieds, now lets read 10 pages of drivel about it as 2 (supposedly) grown adults flame each other over it for a week and a half. I honestly dont remember so many people being in such a hurry to dogpile on anyone with a differeing opinion when I first joined the board. Or maybe its just me.

Stumpy Brad has had a very rough Summer two Hernia surgeries, remodeling his Business. So he has not had much time for anything, But working or healing. He will be at my house on Friday night to Sit in my leather recliner and boss all of us workers around, Oh yeah and drink beer that he still has in my refrigerator! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! I remember he was starting in on the second X he bought during the sale. His Marylyn had a big influence on how my bike went together.

No Marylin is right where I left her a year or so ago when him and I degigned and did some prelimenary test on that small radiator for hal! After Big smooth is done in the next few weeks and then I have to jump back on the 32 roadster for a big show in March. WHile the 32 is out for upholstery I am going over to his house and make him put her back together! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! THANK GOD!!!!

Hey wait a second! I just noticed......I never insulted your bike or even addressed a comment to you! The point

was you are calling Ron our "contrary" as his opinions are different from the rest of the tribe and I am saying you can be a "contrary" too for your choices that are different from the tribe...........I worded it wrong if you thought I was cutting your bike. I thought I might be off-base on this one, but figured I'd better defend myself just in case. __________________ There is a very fine line between Hobby & Mental Illness. Scott

What I take offence to is not your attempt at customizing, there are many custom VTXs represented on this board and they all look great. I am not about to say that I could do better or even as good a job as you are doing, it's not even a job I would want. What I am taking offence to is how you come onto this board, a VTX owner board, and tell everyone who owns an X that their bikes are ugly, junk and how you can't believe how they can't see how wrong they were by liking the VTX. The VTX is not the end all motorcycle by a long shot I can't recall anyone here saying it was. I've read enough of your VTX slamming posts to have picked up on one thing and that is that you must view yourself as some kind of a VTX fan's messiah, here to save all of us from our delusion that the VTX is a good looking bike or for that matter even a decent attempt at stock factory cruiser. Please continue with your "Big Smooth" but spare us the VTX is a POS unless or until RiptheVTXron gets a hold of it BS. __________________ Oh, he's very popular Ed. This too is a general statement just as I think the VTX is ugly but there are only a few people that are going to flame me because I think it is ugly and for those people who I upset well get over it is my opinion and I am entitled to it. As I guess you are for flamming me for it! So go

Ron, just an opinion here.... If you post pics people will ooh and ahh. But if you continue to chide people you will end up being the loser in all of this. You have a great looking project going, cant you just keep it at that? Nope I am not here to challenge you or to fight with you. I am just a guy who is interested in what you are doing. Hey, Ron. I'm not here to judge you, some of the things on your bike are cool, in a whole it does not work for me, but, that don't mean it's wrong for you. That being said, the impression that I get from you (by reading your post) is that you are a smug little prick. The only thing that matters to you is stature. All you talk about is money and pissing people off (it would really piss me off if I had to put 100 grand into a Ford pick-up truck to make it work) I really don't give a sh1t what you or your wife makes.

Yes! I am one of these people that thinks that the VTX is the greatest bike built! Now, ask yourself, why do I think this? (My income is obviously far less than what you claim to make.) IT IS A DREAM RON. I am a carpenter, a DJ and a bouncer. My hands are busted up my body hurts, I work my ASS off for a dream, hell, I don't even own this dream, I have to give the bank $236 a month to let me have it, but I am happy. I live a very rich life, a wonderful wife a beautiful son and the greatest bike ever built (next to the Vincent Black Shadow), and it pisses me off to see you sh1t on my parade. I feel sorry for you, you are a petty man, you thumb your nose at the best people you will ever meet because we are not in your class. I am not saying that I am better than you, but I am above you and "we" as a whole are better than you. I beg you please make me number six. Now I am going to get on my ugly a$$ bike with the piss poor frame and I am going to ride with a huge smile on my face because life is good. Hell, I guess I am here to judge you. P.S. I don't hate you, I just really don't care for your attitude. God bless and have a good day. __________________ Save a plant, eat a vegetarian!

Thats right wantabee between myself and my wife we invest $45,000.00 a year in our retirements which will be in the next 12 years and I am 38 yrs old I live in a $3000,000 home which is sceduled to be paid off in 8 more yrs \, I have a $150,000 roadster A $200,000 roadstster a $100,000 prostreet Ford lightning and I refused at the time to invest a lot of money on a bike it wasnt that I couldnt afford it at that Time my financial advisor (thats right) Financial advisor suggested for me not to tie up the $35,000 that I wanted to build me a custom. But now that some of my investments paid off I had the money to build a bike instead of selling the X which I saw that I would loose my A$$ which didnt suprise me thanx to Good old Honda Sale ( The lets screw our customers Company) I decided to build the X and now you get my opinion of the X and you dont like it and you question my knowledge! Well get a clue and tear your beloved X apart and learn something and then come voice your opinion! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! THANK GOD!!!!

Flop top this question has been asked of me before as far as under $25k I wouldnt put the number at $25k I would rather put it at $35k but I will give you a few for $25k or less I would say Victory Hammer, Big bear choppers 250 Sled, actually take the whole big bear choppers line, Mid west choppers builds a couple of bikes for around $25k. Now on to the sport bikes there are several bikes that are greatly built Ducati, Aprilla, Some of the Jap bikes are great, Yammi R6, The busa. These bikes are great thought out well built bikes. Imo the X is nothing more than a great power plant stuck in a inexpensive wrapper. The brake system sucks, the tank design sucks. the lines are choppy and unrefined, The wheels are a joke, It is very heavy and because of it the great power plant that they designed is wasted. IMHO the biggest problem with Jap cruisers is they are too heavy for the powerplant they designed, I agree with most that the air cooled design is old technology and is no where near as reliable as our beloved VTX power plant BUT Example you take the big bear chopper Venom pro street bike and you upgrade the motor to a 113 ci S & S motor the bike puts down 110hp to the rear wheel and the whole bike weighs 600 lbs approx! Now i am going to get flammed for the Victory hammer BUT all I can say is it at least has nice lines and a stock 240! I say Hey Honda Look at this board and watch what is being done with these bikes and get a clue!

No Ron, I haven't started building it yet...nor am I likely to ever start building it. HOWEVER, after seeing the caliber of the work that you're doing, I may just have to come begging with hat in hand. You're an artist Ron and you've got more talent in your toenail than I'll ever be able to lay claim to having in my ENTIRE body. I honestly don't care how you feel about the X in its stock form, but I am impressed as hell with where you're taking your own X. Keep on keepin' on Ron -- talent and vision you have in abundance. __________________ Tombstone (AMA # 282162) United States Air Force RETIRED 2007 Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom Bike Name: Suzy-Q / Sweet Sue "I am the Anti-Chrome!" I gotta admit the big bear venom is a good looking bar hopper chopper but I don't think my better half would appreciate her accommodations. Besides I'de bet I,m not good enough to get it to the bar without hurting myself quite severely. What do you think of suzuki's 109R. The headlight reminds me of the goons that used to fight with popeye. __________________

floptop I dont know alot about the bike I like the looks of the bike and I think with some mods the bike has a good like But I have never been a big fan of Suzuki V-twins. But I also think that the bike has alot of potential! If I had to choose between a X and the Suzuki I would pick the suzuki Based on Shear looks and potential, example Exhause is great looking ,240 rear wheel better lines I have not seen one in person so I cant say if it is more refined or not but from the pics I would say it looks like it! But Again I wouldnt choose either one of them over the Big Bear stuff I have a wife and I have told her this many times if you want to ride than we can get you a bike but you are not riding with me! __________________ Full on Custom Not much Honda Left!!! Wannavee, You should talk about your financial advisor telling you not to spend money to buy a custom bike, while simultaneously bragging about your 6 digit "investment" in 4 wheeled vehicles. Everyone "in the know" recommends vehicles as the best way to invest.

Then, spend more money customizing a "crappy" bike than what you would have spent buying the bike you wanted, but the "financial adviser" wouldn't let you . Then you'll be supercool like ron, a master of managing money, the universe, and all things cool. Because he is, like, supercool. He's a true artist. He can put a bike together in his garage. I only wish I could be so cool, but I can't, and it sads me. __________________ Aging hippies say: Quote:
