March 31, 2001, 07:47 PM Jim Skelton AKA Corona Gorda is the Biggest Scumbag there is, this guy has cross the line many times with a few of the CFers here. The worst is getting over on Bruce and Lindsey Storey by not paying them back the Money he owes them....Jim they have given you a second chance and you do this to them. I'm posting this for the reason that there are a few of his cronies or so called friends of his on this site....you all have been fooled....if you give this guy the chance he to will get over on you. Jim if you are reading the boards do the right thing and pay them back..... And for those of you that want to speak with him let me know and I'll shoot you his phone number.... Hell I might even post his # after I give him an ear full. To those of you that consider him a friend, give him a call and let him know what in the hell is wrong with him.<IMG SRC='/cf4/images/smiley/smiley07.gif' BORDER=0 WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15>

March 31, 2001, 07:59 PM Kaju, Thank you for your concern but the past money is not the problem. The problem is that I co-signed for a townhouse for Jim and Kelly and they are not paying their rent. I received a call last week from the Management company telling me that if March's rent wasn't paid that day, they would file for eviction and judgement for breech of contract and money owed. I had no choice but to pay the rent to protect my good credit rating. The big problem is that there is 10 months left on the lease. Jim knows I want to protect my credit.

March 31, 2001, 08:01 PM Too bad...this guy is an expert at manipulating people for his own benefit. He's been doing it for years under the guise of "Corona Gorda" and many CFers bit hard on his bait. Sorry to hear you've been scammed too. What are the CG cronies going to think now???

March 31, 2001, 08:11 PM It is a shame That it has come to this Lindsay. However, this comes as no surprise to me. Borrowing money from friends takes balls, not paying it back takes a spineless individual who could care less about people and what true friendship means. Lindsay, IF he is still working at blockbuster, hire a lawyer to garnish his wages.

March 31, 2001, 08:13 PM Mr Skelton managed to bilk quite a few folks out of money. He was quite good at it. Exactly how much did he get when he moved his family west from well meaning family members? What a shame. This should be a lesson to those here who believe they <b>really</b> know somebody through a computer....you don't. Good luck Storeys.

March 31, 2001, 08:14 PM This is bad, very bad. I know there is a tremendous history here, but I feel terrible for Lindsay. Pardon my ignorance, but is there a possibility that CG/Jim (and Kelly) will make this right? I really feel terrible that Lindsay went out on a limb here as I have heard much of the history (generically). I am sorry this has happened. As far as the lease goes, are there some alternatives which can allow you to cut your losses? Being a real estate owner, I know that sometimes there are some steps that can be taken. If they are not living there, perhaps the mgmt. comp. would let you out of the lease, and you would only have to pay until they re-rented it, thus 'cutting your losses'. Perhaps there are legal ramifications which would be more economic that 10 mos. on the lease. I am sorry that I am throwing darts in the dark here, but I do feel for you. Eric

March 31, 2001, 09:26 PM Jim and (YES..AND)Kelly, I am speaking only to both of you about this situation...not anyone else on this thread. You have taken two people who owed you nothing who out of the goodness of their hearts gave you help at a time when you were needy. This is the kind of goodness that keeps a light shining in our world where there is much darkness. You have CRUSHED those same hearts by showing that you could care less about them. The world is a bit uglier today because of your actions. If you ever hope to live your life with some semblance of decency and respect for yourself, you need to pull yourself together and right this wrong at once. You are a family unto yourselves and you must make your way in this world working to provide for yourselves. If you have spent one cent on movies, eating out, convenience foods, car washes or anything else that wasn't a matter of life and death instead of paying this rent, then you are not accepting the fact that everyone has to carry their own load in this world. Jim, if you are not making enough money on your one job to take care of this rent immediately, then you need to go get a second job. What makes you thing that you are such a big shot that you don't have to work just as hard as other Dad's in this country do. I had a step-father that worked 2 full time jobs to put shoes on the feet of 5 children that weren't his. Who the hell do you think you are not providing for your ONE child that is your own? I suggest that you find a way to rectify this immediately as if your life depends on it...because....in all honesty...your life does depend on you surviving...food, shelter, etc. If you are unable to do so immediately...call your REAL family and seek help there. But, mostly seek it from yourself. Get on a budget. Stop being Mr. Big Shot. I think the world will be more impressed by how you care for your family than what you are smoking, riding or drinking.

March 31, 2001, 10:47 PM Jim, this is the last straw. It's now time to be a man and stand up. You have the potential to be a fine person but in every life there comes a time when a person must look within and decide wheather you are going to suceed in life or fail. You've a lot to offer but all that may be lost if you don't decide right now to grow up and face your problems or you will fail and forever be a leach. Suck it up and meet your obligations. You got a good family. Don't blow it. You can't make it right in a day, but in the long haul it will be worth it. Good luck.

April 1, 2001, 12:05 AM I have never posted anything about anyone that is negative in this forum. I will not start now. My observations of Jim are only that he is guilty of envy beyond his control. He wants our success and lifestyle, he is envious of the success of Harris, Tony, Bruce and any other person that he perceives to be successful. He cannot grasp the concept that each and every successful person on the bulletin board earned the position in life they enjoy today. Jim wants it all without the sacrifice and hard work that it has taken each of us to get there. He wants my business, and the financial gain that each of us has created through hard work and the willingness to work as hard as we needed to to enjoy the fruits of our labors. Tony & Teresa are two of the hardest working most compassionate human beings I have had the honor of meeting. They worked darned hard to create success in their lives no one gave them any breaks. I do not know Harris well enough to know his background, but I admire his intelligence to be able to retire at his early age. More power to him! Bruce and Lindsay, I have only heard their names discussed with the greatest of admiration. I am deeply saddened for them. Jim, I begged you to get help, to learn to control your spending habits and learn to live within your means. You scorned my Motherly advise. You are smart and charming, you could have so much, if you were willing to earn it. The free ride is over. I worry about Hunter. What kind of example are you setting for the little guy? As a parent, his wants and needs should come before anything. You owe him food, clothing, shelter, stability and security. The good people here at CF are the best of the best, and generous to a fault. Get a handle on your life and unscrew the mess that you have made of it. I wish you the best.

April 1, 2001, 12:10 AM This is a shame, probably the worst thing I have ever read at this board. What this has done is prove something that I already knew... Bruce and Lindsay are fantastic people. Forgive me if sticking on the positive, but the negatives that I have to say would end up getting this thread pulled, and it's something that people need to see and be aware of, and aware of now. Tony, I will say that scumbag wasn't the word that I was thinking of in this case. To the fire pit...

April 1, 2001, 04:37 AM Wow..My hostility towards CG has been hiding in me since my first post to CF. If you all remember when I came I got flamed over a proposed trade. It was CG that was the ringleader for no reason other than to show his power. About 3 weeks later we talked in the chatroom and I sent him a package worth about $300 to show him goodwill. People here know I send Airborne 2nd day or overnite. This package went overnite and the next day I checked and Jim signed for it. Weeks after I sent package not even a thank you from Jim. Then I saw him in the chatroom again. He didn't even mention the package and when I brought it up he said he wasn't sure if he'd gotten it! I own a rental in Tigard, Oregon and it came up in a chatroom conversation with Jim. He asked me to lease it to him because I was getting ready to sell it. The bad taste over the $300 cigar package evidently saved me thousands it appears,as I didn't even give a thought to leasing to Jim!!! I know I am adding fuel to the fire but I needed to get this off my chest. I feel very badly for all the folks this man has duped, but I know in my heart other people such as myself should have

stood up and said more a long time ago. Had we done it we may have saved some people some money.

April 1, 2001, 05:15 AM Somebody should find Kelly's lover in Portland & LMK. I'll be happy to pay her & Hunters fare back to him. He most likely did love her & anything JS said was just a scam to get her back. Kelly get away from this guy & don't look back. Funny how her instincts were correct.

April 1, 2001, 05:51 AM Given the nature of society, it amazes me these events don't happen more often on this board.

We are truly fortunate to have so many kind, generous, decent people here like Bruce and Lindsay, but I have encountered many more of the opposite variety in my (offline) life. Jim was given <b>far</b> too much slack while here. Knowing the various misdeeds he had committed, I was sickened by the outpouring of sympathy when his wife left him. Classic conman that he is, he ingratiated himself into the sympathies of the far too generous people here by posting the most inappropriately personal matters on this board...and only when it served his ulterior motives. The other thing that kills me is the kneejerk reaction people have to the subject of parenthood: <b>"Oh, Jim has a kid. The poor guy. The poor kid. He can't be all that bad a guy. I mean, he's got a kid, fer chrissakes.</b> As if this automatically excuses somebody from the ethical principles that govern the rest of us! Anyone who met Jim or heard about his exploits would know the fact that he brought a kid into this world had no effect whatsoever on his basic nature. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Procreation offers no protection against genetics.

April 1, 2001, 05:56 AM I can't believe this guy.Bruce and Lindsay are wonderful people who went out of there way to help him and his family. Then he does this to repay him.I hope that he has some self respect and corrects the matter.Somehow I doubt that will happen.

April 1, 2001, 06:33 AM I was one of Jims Virtual CRONIES. This all started when Jim and RAG got into a flame war. We helped Jim and Kelly out when they made their move to Portland (and Jim wasted the money that was sent, but, it was his to do with as he pleased) We helped Jim when his marrage went

bad, and I do not know the outcome. Jim, if you are reading this post, please, do the right thing. Friendship is not as binding as love, but there is a certain amount of love in friendship. Remember "FEEL THE LOVE" Your own statement Jim. Don't hurt your friends in this way. I still have the same old e-mail and phone numbers if you would like to talk.

April 1, 2001, 07:02 AM Just pay back the freekin' money you owe! Period. Frankly I dont give a rats patoody if you're a fine person with exceptional possibilitys or not..... I have never had the pleasure of dealing with or knowing Lindsay Storey, but I call her husband friend and a better friend you couldnt ask for. I can only surmise his wife is no less a person. And the fact is that dosnt even matter here. They helped you out,you borrowed money (and then some by the sounds) ,and now you need to pay them back and not leave them holding the bag for that mess you call a life. Grow up Jimmy, and pay up.

April 1, 2001, 08:30 AM Whoa, hold on. Your all talking as if a good guy, slowly went bad. That isn't the case. Criminals of this stripe, i.e. "small time conmen", do this sort of thing, as long as you allow. You know he's sitting back, chortling to himself, and saying things like "Suckers, had it coming. I can't believe I got away with all the crap I pulled, for as long as I pulled it!" jancascade's profile of him isn't pertinent to just this one person. It's one of the standard issue, criminal characteristics profile: A burning envy and desire to be successful without effort. Thus stealing in it's many forms is O.K. with this class of grifter. He's nothing special. Just another low wattage, garden variety, dirtbag...

April 1, 2001, 11:29 AM Lindsay Get in touch with the owner of the condo , find out how long it will take to get cg evicted . Next deposit the rent for that period in an escrow account to be paid to the owner AFTER cg is evicted . This will allow the owner to get his money for that time period without you paying cg's rent each month for the entire lease period . After cg is gone you sublease the property for the remaining time period. Then ( this is the important part ) run down cg and break his f--kin knees with a ball peen hammer bushi

April 1, 2001, 01:55 PM Bushi offers some decent advice. IF he won't even try to work this out with you, I strongly urge you to contact the townhouse owner or management ASAP and explain the situation and see if you can work something out with them. Otherwise, you are going to just get stuck paying this rent for the remainder of the lease with no meaningful redress. Even worse, depending upon the lease and exactly what you co-signed, maybe you could even get stuck with the bill for damage or theft to the property! You really don't want to take that chance with someone who is not man enough to deal with you straight. If you can make a deal with the owner or management, they should be able to get an eviction, whereas if you just keep paying - well, they won't! I have my own townhouses that I rent out, and I guarantee you if you came to me with this, I would work out a deal with you because I would want these deadbeats OUT of my property. In my experience, people who won't pay rent are also very likely to create tremendous damage to the property to the point where lost rent is the LEAST of the problems. The owner or management company should also understand that. This is probably the single saddest thing of this kind that I have read on any Internet site. You two sound like wonderful people, and I really hope this works out for you. God bless you!

Meanwhile, I also feel terrible for this guy's wife and child. Dear God, please help them. JAWTEK

April 1, 2001, 07:11 PM Wow, I feel like such a F'n loser now. I was the one that took up a donation to help Jim and Kelly with their move from Florida to Oregon. Here I just thought I was helping a friend and trying to do something nice for someone. You know what, I did the same exact thing that Bruce and Lindsay did.

I'd like to thank everyone here that sees fit to judge MY motives. No, I'm not offering to bail Jim out, this is his problem to fix. I'm sorry Tony, I consider you one of my great friends here at CF. This thread truly disturbs me.

Not on you or anyone else that helped him or stuck up for him in the past. My personal and cyber interactions with Jim were never bad, but this is inexcusable. He has disappointed many people that used to call him friend.

I too feel like a fool running around getting that stupid turtle lighter engraved wishing him good luck when he went to work for Jan. But, deep inside, I know that I am a better person because I do have good will and the desire to help my fellow man than if I didn't dare to trust. Then again, we're not the fools! Look at the friends who could have been there for Jim through thick or thin his whole life. He's the biggest loser here.

April 1, 2001, 07:54 PM There is no shame in helping out another person in need, especially when it comes from the heart. It doesn’t matter who helped him, or what he did with the money. The fact of the mater is, the people who helped out Jim, and his family did so from their heart, and not for any notoriety or pat on the back. It was done for selfless reasons. My opinion is.... that Jim did not do the right thing by his family, and also the brethren here at CF. On the other hand; this sort of thing makes me more proud than ever to be a member of this fraternal order of cigar lovers. I hope I never have to call on this cigar family for a lift up, but it sure is nice to know that you wonderful bunch of individuals are there if the occasion ever arises. Thank you for being compassionate. Your cigar buddy, Nick

April 2, 2001, 06:16 AM When someone abuses your trust and kindness, it hurts. First there is denial about the reality of their actions, but time will let it sink in. This reminds me of the Terbacky saga. A family member (in good standing at the time) was going through hard times, and those of us who were interested in helping out did so. We felt good helping. He accepted with graciousness. When he tried to recover, he was in over his head and couldn't maintain his previous level of participation and commitment. He left lots of folks hanging...me included. In the end we felt used, abused and angry. But it didn't mean that what we did to help out initially was wrong. It's not wrong to care, trust and assist, it's wrong to accept, use and then disregard other's kindness and friendship. Unfortunately, generous people will come across these individuals without knowing it until it's too late. I will never feel bad about myself putting trust in someone and helping them. If I did, I would never help anyone again.

April 2, 2001, 07:18 AM Well now it is my turn <IMG SRC='/cf4/images/smiley/smiley06.gif' BORDER=0 WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15> Bruce and Lindsay, I have discussed this in depth with you and have for a while, you know how I feel <IMG SRC='/cf4/images/smiley/smiley06.gif' BORDER=0 WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15> As far as Jimmy, Jimmy was my roomate for CFC 1999, and to me that is when is scamming started. I paid for the entire room for the weekend and he was going to send me a check- that never happened, I stay at his house for a few days after CFC so I felt we were even. He insisted on paying me back. So when he was moving to OR I said keep the mone and good luck, it was only a few hundred bucks ( I sent him a bunch of smokes for the trip too) but nevertheless it was part of his scam <IMG SRC='/cf4/images/smiley/smiley06.gif' BORDER=0 WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15> Jimmy do the right thing for your family and friends. If our paths ever cross again , I will express my feelings to you the way I should have at the MAFPC Herf, but unlike YOU I have class and would not insult the hosts ( Bruce and Lindsay ) and would not embarrass Wendy that way. Jim and Kelly if you do anything that is right in your lives.....it would be giving your child to someone maybe in your family to take good care of him before something really serious happens to him under your care.....you two are irresponsible adults and parents.....Perhaps this would be the best thing for Hunter at this moment, until you seek help for yourselves financially and mentally.

April 2, 2001, 07:41 AM I hate to say this, but if the information about the unpaid rent at various apartments, the unpaid cars and the other purloined property is true, then the stuff at PAD and with Bruce and Lindsay is just the tip of the iceberg. IMHO, CG sounds like a full-fledged grifter. If this is the case, then someone should contact the proper authorities. Conmen can only be stopped if their victims come forward which often doesn't happen b/c they are embarassed that they were taken. Nevertheless, there is a cost to this, as the vendors whom he stole from will have to make claims on their insurance policies, the insurance companies will raise their rates and they will pass along these costs to honest people like you and me. Instead of trying to talk sense into him (in my opinion, not possible), someone with the information should be calling the police before he cons another decent person out of their property and trust.

"I have nothing to say except I F-ed up. Not to the severity of all the other accusations, but I have a financial obligation to Bruce and Lindsay, and am doing what is needed to be done to make it right. This was being done long before this thread. There was nothing done to hurt them, they have sacrificed a great deal to help me, and the fault is entirely mine. My misfortune has affected their lives and for that there is no excuse. I can only give my apology to them for what has been done. I offered to them to do ANYTHING, and EVERYTHING to turn this around. I am awaiting their response to my efforts. There is no con, only someone who was afraid of losing what life I had. I should have never let 2 good people like the Storeys be affected by my own screwups. I cannot apologize for what has been done, but I can make it right, I only need the chance to do so. -Jim-"

April 2, 2001, 10:07 AM I feel sick. I always like CG although I never met the man in person. I think what Donna and Jan said describes my feelings the best. CG, I hope you can make this right no matter how long it takes. If I look on the good side of this, it's that it reassures me that my thinking that there are a lot of good and generous people on this board is true. I DO think you can and should trust the CF family members until something happens that makes one lose that trust. One last bit of advices though; Whether one was screwed over or not, we should all be able to forgive and forget (while keeping our guard up). If Jesus could forgive the guys that crucified him, we should be able to forgive Jim the person not Jim's behavior. my .02

April 2, 2001, 10:20 AM Why not just shut your mouth for a change CG and act instead? You are a liar and a thief. Nothing you ever say will change this. However, paying some of your past debts might help heal a few wounds. If nothing else you will provide closure to those you have taken advantage of.

April 2, 2001, 11:31 AM WOW! 20 G's in tax free cash! hopefully in denominations less than 10k to avoid listing it on tax returns (if he files any). throw in another 10k in cigars he sold and maybe more than that in guns or watches that were sold and we're fast approaching $50k without even getting into paychecks. Not bad for tax free money, especially living in relatively inexpensive parts of the country. I do not know CG personally but whenever I've seen this pattern before there was usually an underlying gambling or drug habit. I hope that is not the case here for the sake of his family.

April 2, 2001, 12:20 PM Guys and girls, Jim is no con man or grifter. He was so obvious from the beginning that a few of us knew what he was about after the first Hartford herf. He is a user, he isn't smart enough to be a grifter. He never had a gun collection or rolex collection, he was never the manager for 6 tobacco stores. He was a friggin clerk for one of the stores. All you had to do was listen when he opened his mouth and you knew he was lying. The first time I knew he was a liar was sitting at the table at the Brew pub in Hartford as he described his gun collection. Right then and there I knew this guy was a wannabee. It is too bad that many of you didn't see through his bs before you actually gave him money.

April 2, 2001, 12:39 PM CG's gotta be legally confronted with his actions, or he'll never change. From all I've read, and having been the victim of some of his infamous flames, AND knowing someone who personally came close to getting scammed by Jim, I'd define him as a user, not a grifter. A grifter has the forethought to steal. A user isn't far off, but usually doesn't want to hurt those that they do, but has no conscience about it when they do. If Jim's a user, legal consequences may turn his boat. If he's a grifter, he belongs in jail. Either way, turn the guy in to authorities as a con man and let the law work it out. BTW, forgiving Jim doesn't mean letting him off the hook. I believe in forgiveness.

Make profound sounds of sincerity and be creative with excuses. (The mark needs them in order to keep nagging doubt at bay. Then he can keep on giving to you and you can keep on taking.) 3. NEVER follow through on any promises, unless they set up the mark, for a bigger score... 4. Never stay in any one place for very long. People now know that there is a problem and it should be corrected. I would like to suggest that those that have sustained a bonafide loss deal directly with Jim or another authority. Those that have no business making comments or are going on emotional heresay should just mind their own business. Some of the stupid comments here today cannot be helping matters much.

April 2, 2001, 03:51 PM Wow, this place is really unbelieveable. I guess I just view it as a fun web spot to chat with other fellow enthusiasts, but this is way over the line imo. I had no idea that such close personal relationships were developed here that substantial sums of money were borrowed and loaned. In a way it helped to boast good feelings for my fellow man, in another it makes me sad to see such trusts breached. I really don't know what to say. I've known people for years and years that I would have trouble lending money to. It's a real shame, but sometimes I think many of you need to back away from here and get a life. I don't mean this as an insult at all, but really...this is a very strange phenonenom here. Again, I don't mean to insult anyone, but I really don't understand any of this...at all. Can

someone please explain?

April 2, 2001, 10:31 PM I post here, without further comment, a list from the excellent Debtor's Anonymous page that PMagus mentioned above ( <a href="http://www.debtorsanonymous.org"><font color="Green"><b>http://www.debtorsanonymous.org</b></font></a> ): <b>Twelve Signposts on the Road to Becoming a Compulsive Debtor 1. Being unclear about your financial situation. Not knowing account balances, monthly expenses, loan interest rates, fees, fines, or contractual obligations. 2. Frequently "borrowing" items such as books, pens, or small amounts of money from friends and others, and failing to return them. 3. Poor saving habits. Not planning for taxes, retirement or other not-recurring but predictable items, and then feeling surprised when they come due; a "live for today, don't worry about tomorrow" attitude." 4. Compulsive shopping: Being unable to pass up a "good deal"; making impulsive purchases; leaving price tags on clothes so they can be returned; not using items you've purchased. 5. Difficulty in meeting basic financial or personal obligations, and/or an inordinate sense of accomplishment when such obligations are met. 6. A different feeling when buying things on credit than when paying cash, a feeling of being in the club, of being accepted, of being grown up. 7. Living in chaos and drama around money: Using one credit card to pay another; bouncing checks; always having a financial crises to contend with. 8. A tendency to live on the edge: Living paycheck to paycheck; taking risks with health and car

insurance coverage; writing checks hoping money will appear to cover them. 9. Unwarrented inhibition and embarassment in what should be a normal discussion of money. 10. Overworking or underearning: Working extra hours to earn money to pay creditors; using time inefficiently; taking jobs below your skill and education level. 11. An unwillingness to care for and value yourself: Living in self-imposed deprivation; denying your basic needs in order to pay your creditors. 12. A feeling or hope that someone will take care of you if necessary, so that you won't really get into serious financial trouble, that there will always be someone you can turn to.</b>

I am sorry for anybody who lost money, your heart was in the right place, but Harris was right. This guy ain't in the grifter hall of fame. I like to feel I'm a pretty good judge of character and I was one of the first anti-CG guys around here. Took a fair amount of heat for it, but I don't blame people for sticking up for friends. It's an admirable quality. Yep, I got burned by Terbacky too. Wasn't trying to help, just wanted to buy smokes. Really, anybody needing help from internet buddies should throw up a caution flag anywhere. It usually means they have exhausted their other resources. Good luck to all involved.

-Jim-"

Well, looks like he had plenty of chances... and he's making enough money hawking crap watches now to pay them back if he wanted to (if still employed). What a dirtbag.

December 21, 2007, 12:30 PM Lot's of Corona Gorda history now available for the newbies. It would be difficult for anyone to top the crap he got away with on CF.

December 21, 2007, 12:35 PM Seems as though the internet can be a great tool to get even with someone. Although it sounds like there's very little that could ever be done to him that would make what he did and the people he did it to whole again. But with the information out there, there's got to be someone here who would be willing to just call up his company, or the tv station or whoever necessary and start spreading the word. Even if you get blown off as a nutcase, the simple act of sowing the seeds of mistrust can go a long way.

December 21, 2007, 12:44 PM I wonder if he is reading this, right now. I wonder what his boss would think, after reading about his past history. His boss, Frank Elsenbast, would probably not think too much of him if someone were to e-mail him the threads at felsenbast@shopnbc.com. Maybe Jim Skelton will post here and explain himself. Maybe not...
