Acquaint

BETTER INSIGHTS, SAFER PIPELINES

Acquaint aims to prevent future failure of pipelines with a vital role in the drinking water and wastewater sector in achieving and maintaining the welfare of society. The company develops innovative inspection methods and techniques for pipelines. With the air of these tools, pipeline owners can verify maintenance strategies and detect failure mechanisms. The use of data science creates a leverage effect, enabling customers to increase control over their assets. Acquaint contributes to the structural reduction of capital costs and the achievement of operational excellence.

Rudy Dijkstra, CEO:

“Water is a reflection of our current standard of living. I believe we can make a huge contribution to the safe transport of water, thus contributing to a future-proof water supply.”

THE SUN AS A ROLE MODEL

DeSaH has developed a compact, modular, decentralized wastewater treatment system for household water. Concentrated wastewater is collected through vacuum toilets (black water) to separate it from the less polluted greywater. This system allows for effective recovery and treatment of water, nutrients, energy and micropollutants.

DeSaH offers two systems for wastewater treatment:

• For development projects (e.g. neighbourhoods, hotels, offices), different types of wastewater are collected separately. Blackwater is collected through water-saving vacuum toilets and is treated separately from the less polluted greywater, allowing water, nutrients and energy to be recovered in the most sustainable way possible. DeSaH has several reference projects in the Netherlands, Sweden and Canada, where this concept has been developed and proven in projects ranging from 30–1000 households.

• For existing build, where wastewater is already mixed, we offer our latest innovation with a compact activated sludge system + nanofiltration. The active sludge system is compactly designed in a container for easy transport. The recovered water is of high quality and can be reused for various purposes.

EMI Twente has been doing membrane related research for 25 years, focusing on translating fundamental know-how into viable products and processes. EMI Twente is recognized as an authority in the membrane industry. EMI Twente offers services like desktop or consultancy work, feasibility studies, characterization of membrane samples, membrane development up to the first prototype, application studies, small scale piloting, benchmarking, troubleshooting and building customized equipment.

DoReMi (Donnan Dialysis ReMineralization) a UT-patented, membrane-based drinking water process that delivers highquality drinking water with low water losses and reuses minerals present in the source.

The Demonstrator programme of NWO’s Applied and Technical Sciences domain has granted funding to scale the process further. We are currently building a pilot that will be demonstrated at Oasen and Waterleiding Maatschappij Drenthe from October 2021 onwards. We are also approaching the market to transfer the technology/patent to a third party for commercial exploitation. The patent application has been pursued in Europe, the United States and Saudi Arabia. Aquatech offers the perfect stage for us. DoReMi is a promising technology that can contribute to solving the societal challenges around drought and water shortages and the pressure on the quality of drinking water sources.

Heleen Sombekke, Business Developer/Project Manager:

“EMI Twente has been doing membrane related research for 25 years already, specifically focusing on translating fundamental know-how into viable products and processes. We envision membrane technology as a key enabling technology in the transition to a circular and biobased economy. EMI Twente has the ambition to become the number one point of contact for any company in the membrane industry.”

UVOX Benelux b.v. focuses on sustainable, environmentally friendly and chemical-free technologies for water and air treatment. Between them, the company founders have over 35 years of experience in water, air and surface purification using Ultraviolet light.

The patented UVOX Redox® technology combines the oxidizing effect of ozone with the disinfecting effect of ultraviolet light, initiating a highly effective advanced oxidation process (AOP) in a single system with a single lamp.

Barbara Berson, CEO (source: WaterProof magazine):

“Our blue planet is incredibly vulnerable, and we must do everything we can to protect it. Water pollution and scarcity problems are arising all over the world. We want to contribute to solutions. Access to clean drinking water should be a basic right for every person. UVOX Redox® makes water purification easy, so we can create possibilities for the use of cleaner drinking water in countries where drinking water is scarce.

Our products can be used for air purification to help combat CO2 emissions and can also be used to combat micro-pollution that poses a threat to public health. If we can contribute even a little bit to a better, more sustainable world with UVOX Redox®, we are happy to do so.” desah.nl
