ROLAPAC
EFFECTIVE REMOVAL OF GREASE, OIL, AND ORGANIC MATTER
The ROLAPAC is an innovative and patented floating layer remover for sewage pumping stations.
Urban areas are increasingly faced with the formation of floating layers in sewage pumping stations. The layer consists of fats, oils and greases (FOG), wipes and other items that do not belong in the sewer. Floating layers are costly to remove, and the removal process is an unsustainable practice. The floating layer also increasingly puts pressure on the sewer infrastructure during periods of heavy rainfall. This is something we are increasingly experiencing due to climate change. The ROLAPAC solution prevents the formation of a floating layer, reducing cleaning needs. This, in turn, reduces cleaning costs, improves sewer infrastructure and reduces C0² emissions. When maintenance is scheduled during bad weather, the lift station is needed to transport the water and cannot go into recess, resulting in high planning costs. In addition, sewage pumping stations are often located in residential areas where maintenance can inconvenience local residents.
The Scheveningen (NL) sewage pumping station pilot shows that the aforementioned challenges no longer occur; one short annual seveice is sufficient. This puts the payback time at less than 2.5 years, and the sustainability contribution to the lift station’s owner is significant.
Laurens Verberne, owner:
“What could be better than launching an innovation in a very interesting world—the wastewater world. Everyone contributes to a higher goal in the wastewater world: a wellfunctioning and sustainable wastewater system for all of us. We have been operating successfully at the Scheveningen sewage station for over 1.5 years and have been able to make a significant contribution to the customer’s sustainability label and reduce costs by ninety per cent.”
