Information and advice will be available at the Open Evening for third level courses listed in this brochure on 1 th June 010 in the Cork Road Campus, WIT, from 18.00 - 20.00.

Option B You can also return a completed application form (with full tuition fee attached) to the Adult Education Oﬃce, WIT Main Campus, Cork Road, Waterford on or before 1st July 010. Application forms are available to download from our website or from the Adult Education Oﬃce, Cork Road Campus.

What are the entry requirements for courses? Please Note: If you are a first year applicant you must email a copy of your current CV and relevant qualiﬁcations to tlace@wit.ie. Failure to do so may result in loss of place.

When do I apply? Third Level applications will be accepted between the 15th of June and 31st July 2010. Applications are registered on a first come first served basis so early application is recommended.

Each course has its own entry requirements so please refer to the relevant course details for more information. Whilst no formal certiﬁcation of English is required, participants must ensure that they are proﬁcient in both written and spoken English to successfully complete their course of choice.

Is there any funding available for courses? As all adult education courses operate on a self-ﬁnancing basis, you are required to pay your own tuition fees. The following supports may be worth considering:

How do I pay? You must pay the full fee with your application form. For online applications, payment can be made with Credit or Debit cards. When you make a payment online you will automatically receive a receipt via email. If you don’t have access to a Credit/Debit card you can still apply online by choosing payment option B. Simply send in your payment by cheque, Postal Order or Bank Draft (made payable to Waterford Institute of Technology) to our oﬃce within 10 working days of your online application. On receipt of your payment your application will be processed. Please Note: Cash payments are not accepted. Where employers are funding your fees, you are required to seek payment or reimbursement from your employer. WIT does not offer invoicing facilities.

When do courses begin? All third level courses are scheduled to start the week commencing Monday 13th September 2010. At the beginning of September 2010, you will receive written confirmation of your course start date from the Adult Education Oﬃce.

Where do lectures take place?

• WIT Bursary for the Unemployed: We encourage those in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance or Unemployment Benefit to apply as part time students to WIT in order to improve their employment prospects. For this reason we are offering a 25% bursary to all applicants in receipt of either of these two welfare payments. Please provide evidence of your payment by supplying your PPS number and signing the declaration which states that the information you are submitting is accurate and honest. Your details will be verified by the Department of Social and Family Affairs. (Please see the reduced fees listed by programme in this prospectus under the heading 'Cost, if eligible for bursary'. This scheme will be subject to review at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year and does not apply to any of our part-time postgraduate programmes.) • Tax Relief: People pursuing part-time courses leading to a Third-level qualification may be eligible for Tax Relief on their fees if paying from their own income. Registered employers may also be eligible to claim relief on course fees paid for employees. What happens if a course is cancelled?

What is the cost of RPL?

Classes will run subject to sufficient enrolments and viability. If a course is undersubscribed, we will make every effort to offer you an alternative course or we will refund you the full tuition fee.

You must register and pay in full for each course/module in question at the beginning of the academic year. If exemptions are granted you will be given a refund of 50% per exempted module.

What is WIT’s refund policy?

What is the National Framework of Qualiﬁcations?

If you have registered for a course and cannot attend classes, you must contact the Adult Education Oﬃce, one week before the course start date (i) stating your intention to withdraw, and (ii) requesting a refund form. All refunds are subject to an administration fee (details available on request).

The NFQ forms the basis of a new more flexible and integrated system of qualifications. The NFQ, through its ten levels, provides a means of comparing and contrasting national and international education and training qualifications. It helps learners to plan their education and training and employers to identify the qualifications they require.

Please Note: If you do not notify staﬀ prior to the start date, no refund will be given.

How can I get a student card? Once you are registered on a course, you are entitled to apply for a WIT Card. This card costs €15 and is available from the WIT Card Oﬃce in the Atrium, Cork Road Campus. The WIT card is essential for you to access the library, IT, photocopying, canteen and shop facilities.

What is Recognition of Prior Learning? WIT acknowledges that adults bring a wide range of experience and knowledge to the classroom. In some instances, where adults can demonstrate that the quality and duration of their experience is equivalent to the learning outcomes of programme module(s), students may be entitled to an exemption from particular module(s). This is referred to as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

How can I apply for RPL? If you wish to apply for RPL, you must compile a portfolio of documentary evidence to demonstrate that you have already achieved the learning outcomes of a module or modules and would not be disadvantaged by not studying that particular module(s). Please send all RPL applications (hard copy only) clearly marked for the attention of the 3rd Level Administrator, Adult and Continuing Education, College Street Campus. The MSc in Science Education (Primary Science) is a flexible modular part-time programme which has been developed to meet the needs of teaching professionals at primary level in science education. This programme has been developed in conjunction with scientists, educationalists and practising teachers working at primary level in science education.

The aim of the Master of Arts in Education is to oﬀer graduates a ﬂexible pathway to a Level 9 qualification by allowing them to choose modules in accordance with their professional interests and practices, whilst maintaining a set of core educational competences. Advocacy services go some way to redress the inequalities between the individual and large powerful organisations. For many years, informal advocacy has always existed but formal services are beginning to develop particularly in the disability area.
