Need to talk? The Chaplain is available to speak with students in a confidential and safe environment and treats students with respect and dignity in all situations within and beyond the Institute. The Chaplain's Office is room D26 , students are free to call to the Chaplain's office at any time and the Chaplain is available to students of all denominations and none.

Illness and Bereavement Here at the Institute, bereavement and loss are seen as significant events in a student’s life and you will find staff most supportive of you at this time. Also, should you be aware of a student illness, accident or bereavement, we would be grateful if you would let us know.

SAFE fund Some students find themselves in financial difficulty at times during the academic year. The SAFE fund committee administers a small fund which takes the form of interest free loans for students in financial crisis. The fund is geared to make a quick and supportive response and is primarily designed for unanticipated emergencies only. All enquiries to the Chaplain's office.

Quiet Room The institute Quiet Room is a place for students and staff to experience silence and reflection. It is a discreet place to spend time alone and in company with our inner lives. Among the books available for reading are reflections on bereavement and loss, world religions and faith development. The Quiet Room is located in C 41.

Overseas Volunteer Work The Chaplain's office has information on volunteer work overseas which students may wish to access. Fundraisers are held throughout the year for countries and projects in the developing world. Volunteer agencies will also visit the institute and make presentations on volunteer summer opportunities.

Book Aid International Here in WIT we have an initiative to promote education within the developing world. We collect unwanted third-level books and forward to educational projects overseas. If you have any second hand books under 10 years old and in good condition, please drop them off at the Circulation Desk in the Library.

Annual John Moore Community Award This award is made annually to the person who is judged to have made the greatest contribution to the institute community in some way – social, personal, recreational, academic or organisational. It consists of a wall plaque and a silver medallion with a logo and the motto “To serve and not be served”. For information of how to make a nomination, contact the Chaplain’s Office or dkeating@wit.ie
