A couple of the art teachers including our very own, Mrs. Provo Parker, have been asked to display their artwork along with other contemporary artists in the barn.

The Cormorant teachers worked together with parents and students on their team to organize a mid ‐winter "Family Fun Night." The focus was "Family Fun First" but the team also celebrated some ac‐ ademic and team successes that students have been working toward. Special thanks to Mr. Chris Landry for his support as a parent and Athle c Director, helping to organize several PE ac vi es in‐ cluding a Corn Hole Tournament that everyone enjoyed. A er a long fought ba le, Ethan Stelik and Ma hew Shampine came out as champions to claim a 3 foot tall trophy created just for the event. They defeated a strong 2nd place team formed by the Marelli sisters, Olivia and Lily. Dinner was prepared by a favorite local Waterford business, Chef Luigi's Wood Fired Pizza Risto. A new pizza was coming out of the wood fired pizza oven every 5 minutes and families were the first to try Chef Luigi's newest pizza the Chicken Barbeque pizza. Two former CLMS students (Hannah Burrows and Kaley Gagnon) who dance at another local business, Broadway Kids and Company, a ended the evening and led students, teachers and parents through a number of fun line dances. The evening was so successful that Chef Luigi agreed to come back to CLMS on March 22 during Career Day with the 7th Grade students. A good me was had by all and since the Cormorants are a looping team, plans are already in mo on to make the Family Fun Night even be er next year!

CREATIVE WRITING ELECTIVE with Mrs. Morosky After reading and analyzing engaging restaurant reviews, 7th grade students in the Creative Writing elective took a trip to The Shack to eat, observe, and ultimately write their own reviews. Below are a few excerpts of their work. The Shack is a quite popular diner in town, and I can understand why. Once you walk in, you are greeted with a familiar atmosphere. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been there countless times or just once; you always feel at home with the welcoming staff members and friendly folks scattered from table to table. The cluttered walls are filled with vintage antiques and different inspirational posters. The wait time for our group was short, even though it was pretty busy. My friends and I quickly got a table situated in the back corner. Then it was time to start looking through the variety of lunch and dinner options. -Ashlin Garris When my teacher announced we would go to The Shack to write restaurant reviews, I was obviously excited because why wouldn't you want to get comfort food in the middle of a school day? On a cloudy Friday around the middle of the day we set out for a trip to The Shack. -Stella Christensen The waffle had a light fluffy feel with a slightly crunchy outside texture that added to the experience. It was hot, but not burning when I bit into it. The whipped cream was creamy, flavorful, and smooth as it slipped down my throat. The longer the whipped cream sat untouched on the golden brown waffle, the more that it melted, forming a river as it slid down into the nooks and crannies which added more flavor and texture to the delicious waffle. The amount of whipped cream to waffle was a good ratio, not lacking in either flavor or amount. -Brianne Kilcomons The whipped cream melted slightly on top of the warm pancakes. I was practically drooling at the sight of the delicious food being served as I waited patiently. When my chocolate chip pancakes ($8.49) arrived, I took a bite and fell in love with the melted chocolate chips inside a fluffy wonderland. It was a big portion: two giant pancakes topped with whipped cream. The home fries($2.99) I ordered on the side were practically perfect in every way: the onions were sliced thin, the seasoning was on point, and it was a delectable treat that warmed my mouth and my heart. -Cameron Hill Clustered in between a hair salon and eye doctor’s office, it seemed like a small place, yet it was surprisingly spacious when we got in. A warm, delicious smell of breakfast floated in the air. I looked around and noticed the old fashioned decor, with antiques and old fashioned decorations hanging from the walls. I thought it fit in well because it didn’t seem like the type of place that would have looked good with modern design. We were seated at our table pretty quickly, considering it was fairly crowded. -Sarah Hage There was so much to choose from: french toast, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon. They had it all. One of my classmates got the “My Two” ($8.99), which contained two creamy buttermilk pancakes, two eggs, and home fries. Another one of my classmates got the “Fruity Favorite” (8.99), a crispy, golden waffle, topped with fresh fruit. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, four of them. They told me just two was enough, but I was prepared for a challenge. One by one, every one of my classmates got their food. After what seemed like decades, my plate arrived with four ginormous pancakes topped with chocolate chips, whipped cream, and sprinkled with cocoa powder, along with a hefty blob of butter on the side. It took a while to devour them, but it was delicious. -Todd Pezzolesi
