Afterschool Activities

Great Neck School is proud to offer a variety of afterschool programs for students. So far this year we have been able to offer Creative Storytelling & Theater for students in grades 2-5, Martial Arts with Gabriel’s Martial Arts for grades 1 & 2, School Store for 5th grade students, and STEM & Purposeful play for students in Kindergarten & first grades. 4th & 5th grade students are currently participating in a school musical program ending with a performance on March 5th. Coming up 2nd graders will have the chance to participate in an Art/Yoga program with Ms. Paquette and students in 3-5 grade can dance their hearts out in Mrs. Valentine’s dance crew. Students in 5th, kindergarten and 1st grades are participating in an afterschool mentoring project beginning in March and Mrs. Reed will be leading the 5th grade Kindness Council in a community project. Beginning in March, Mr. Kinder will have 4th & 5th graders participating in running club. Stay tuned for other afterschool opportunities this Spring!

NHS's first Parents' Night Out

Parents! Are you looking for a stress-free evening without kids on February 14th, Valentine's Day? WHS's National Honor Society presents its first Parents' Night Out, a community service event to watch your children at the school library from 5:00 to 8:00 PM so you can have an evening to yourself.

Pet Professions

Ages 8 and up. No registration is required. Calling all animal lovers! Join the CT Humane Society for an interactive look into Pet Professions. This program offers a look at the wide array of careers in the animal welfare field. We will learn about the skills and education needed for different positions and hear about a typical work day from CHS staff.

FEBRUARY PROGRAMS Children & Teens

February 1st to February 28th Heart Puppy GRAB & GO CRAFT:

At this craft night teens will make a no-sew heart pillow for Valentine's Day. All materials will be provided. Registration required. Ages 11-18.

Take Your Child to the Library Day

Snow date: February 8.

All ages are welcome to join us for Take Your Child to the Library Dayan annual event that began here at the Waterford Public Library to encourage families to visit their local library and see all of the resources and programs they offer, all for free! We will have a special musical storytime with Joy Blooms at 10:30 am and an interactive local author visit with Abi Cushman at 2:30 pm. Thank you to M&T Bank and Chelsea Groton Bank for helping to fund this event.

Winter Reading Challenge

It’s time for the Youth Winter Reading Challenge! From January 6 to February 24 ages birth to 18 years old can pick up an activity sheet in the Children’s Room or Teen Area to participate. Color in the different winter shapes as you complete each fun activity. Once you have done them all, turn your sheet into the Children’s Room for prize.
