During family meetings, we are often asked how families can support learning at home. The most important thing you can do is read with your child. To further bridge the connection between school and home learning, the staff at OSW is introducing Play Packs.
Over the next several weeks, we will be selecting anchor texts, providing essential questions to encourage discussion, and offering prompts and materials for games and crafts related to classroom readings. Students will be able to check these out and bring them home. Stay tuned for more details!
On a related note, if you visit the school, you’ll see incredible displays created by our 5th graders to extend their learning in their Wit & Wisdom language arts unit.
Students are exploring how cultural values develop within the context of one of America’s most heartbreaking and tumultuous eras. They are building knowledge of westward expansion, learning about Nez Perce culture, and studying the conflict between the Nez Perce and the U.S. government.

I am sending a reminder about a great parent event coming up soon! Don’t miss your chance to be a part of Square One Art – a fundraiser where students create art that families can purchase on a variety of products. In years past this has been an awesome OSO partnered fundraiser that makes for great Mother’s and Father’s Day presents! I am inviting parents/relatives to be a part of the art making process with students. It’s a great opportunity to create memories that will last for years to come.
