Your pick… of qualifications
Warwickshire College offers a diverse range of learning programmes, with many opportunities to fast-track or change career direction.
Our higher education qualifications are available to all students and are listed below.
Higher National Certificate (HNC) – usually a two-year part-time course, popular with employed students who attend college for one day or two evenings a week. Higher National Diploma (HND) – usually a
two-year full-time course, popular with school/college leavers who have completed a National Diploma, A-Levels or other equivalent qualifications.
Foundation degrees are vocational qualifications. Designed with the help of employers, they focus on technical/practical and academic skills. Work-based learning is an essential part and the length of your course depends on the amount of work-based learning you undertake outside the college. Some courses can be studied over two years with college attendance just one day a week; others require full-time attendance with managed work placements. As employers are involved in the design and review of courses, Foundation degree graduates are highly employable.
Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) is
equivalent to the first two years of an Honours degree and is ideal for someone who wishes to study initially in a college environment and then progress onto the final year of a degree at a university.
Honours degrees are usually three year full-time courses with the possibility of including a work placement ‘sandwich’ year. Warwickshire College offers a range of Honours degrees in vocational subject areas, which you can find on pages 8-23.

Sarah’s Story
All of our courses have identified progression routes, enabling students to achieve Honours degrees at a range of higher education institutions, both locally and nationally. FdSc Counselling (Cognitive Behavioural)
After A levels, Sarah intended to go to university but as the time drew near, she became unsure and took a gap year to clarify her thoughts. She decided her future lay in working with children and the course at Warwickshire College seemed ideal. Having completed her course, Sarah is topping up her HND to a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education. She intends to take either a social work masters degree to work with children and families or primary teaching PGCE.
FdSc Counselling (Person Centred) FdA Social Care and Community Studies FdA Early Years HND Advanced Practice in Work with Children and Families Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Sarah says, The course was excellent. I was in a small, friendly, close-knit group so it was all very personal. Not only that but the fees were much less than university. I honestly believe that, in terms of knowledge, experience and expertise, I have come out with just as much as a traditional university would have given me. The tutors were always available so I never felt that I was struggling for a moment. I would certainly recommend the course to others.

Warwickshire College is committed to becoming a sustainable community. Actions and activities undertaken by the college range from resource efficiencies to embedding sustainability in the college culture. As part of this process, we have reduced the amount of paper we use by creating this useful HE course guide rather than an extensive course prospectus. For detailed information on all our courses and other support available please go to our website: warwickshire.ac.uk This guide is printed on paper produced from sustainable managed forests accredited by the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes; perfc.org) Need Help? If you need help in understanding this guide (for example, if English is not your first language or you have a visual impairment), please contact Student Services on 0300 45 600 48
Visiting? If you are planning on visiting the college, please inform us if you have any individual needs, (i.e. access, disabled parking or require emergency evacuation assistance). Please call 0300 45 600 45
