This year we are excited to announce our most ambitious and diverse season to date. As the Producing Artistic Director of the Footlight, I have made our mantra for this season reflect a simple goal - “new faces.” I have brought on a team of established directors, and have encouraged them to find new faces and new talent to bring to the Footlight. Many of the actors we have hired have never been on our stage, and we hope that that will encourage new audiences to attend. We have an incredible space, with limitless potential, and I hope that the 2017-2018 Season, my second year at the helm, will begin to realize this theatre’s potential even more than we already have. We hope you enjoy tonight’s performance. If you do, please help us by spreading the word to your friends via social media! Like our Facebook page! Encourage people who have never been to see a show here to be our guest. We have something for everyone this year, including new works, world premieres, plays, musicals, stand-up comedians, and of course, our second annual Foley Awards in February. We hope you’ll come back again and again. If you do, we hope you’ll consider one of our season subscription packages. Our theatre is only as strong as the community we serve, and the LGBT community in Orlando has been proven to be one of the strongest and most vibrant communities in the country.

Thank you again, and enjoy the show!

Daddy Issues WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY DAVID GOLDYN

REGIONAL THEATRE PREMIERE, DIRECT FROM ITS OFF-BROADWAY RUN! Donald Moscowitz has overbearing parents. Don’t we all? Donald is trying to live his life as a gay man in 1980s New York—a struggling actor no less. Of course his parents are in denial about his lifestyle, disapprove of his career choice, and question his flair for decoration. To get his family to stop kvetching, Donald needs a son. With the help of his ballsy best friend Henrietta and rising drag queen Levi, Donald hires the ten-year-old kid from downstairs to play his son. What could go wrong? This fast-paced new comedy, from the wit of David Goldyn, takes audiences on a rollicking risqué ride to remind us just how far we’ll go for family.

GRINDR The Opera BY ERIK RANSOM • DIRECTED BY TIM EVANICKI

WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTION! GRINDR The Opera puts the most notorious gay hook-up app into the exaggerated world of opera. With musical styles ranging from baroque to contemporary pop, GRINDR The Opera is a daring, humorous look at the changing landscape of gay relationships, and the greatest catalyst for the shift: GRINDR. We meet GRINDR, a mythical siren from remote antiquity who has been awoken from her millennial slumber by technology. Her power, which is derived from human lust, is exhibited as she manipulates her gay devotees in a soaring soprano. Next we meet the boys: Devon is a romantic, Tom is a cynic, Jack is a twink and Don is a daddy. These four gay men of different “Tribes” meet via the medium

of the Grindr app, each seeking a different type of connection. GRINDR guides them to intersect to hilarious and calamitous results, culminating in a grand finale wherein all the dirty laundry tumbles out. Though the opera lives in the world of parody, it touches on some very serious, hotbutton issues that exist in the gay community as it transitions into a time of wider acceptance and easy access to opportunities of both romance and lust to be sated. GRINDR The Opera is entirely sung-through and intended to be staged with a cast of five actors: The four men and the Siren, GRINDR, who is intended to be a masked man in drag. It is arranged to be performed musicians. by a band of three to five musicians

Jeffrey

BY PAUL RUDNICK • DIRECTED BY ERIC PINDER Jeffrey, a gay actor/waiter, has sworn off sex after too many bouts with his partners about what is “safe” and what is not. In gay New York, though, sex is not something you can avoid. Whether catering a ditzy socialite’s “Hoe-down for AIDS” or cruising at a funeral; at the gym or in the back rooms of an anonymous sex club; at the annual Gay Pride Parade, or in the libidinous hands of a father-confessor, Jeffrey finds the pursuit of love and just plain old physical gratification to be the number-one preoccupation of his times—and the source of plenty of hilarity. Suddenly, just after he’s reconciled himself to celibacy, Jeffrey’s flamboyant friends introduce him to the man of his dreams, who also happens to be HIV-positive. What follows is an audacious and moving romantic comedy with a difference—one in which the quest for love and really fabulous clothes meet, and where unflagging humor prevails even when tragedy might be just around the corner.

Debbie Does Dallas The Most Fabulous ADAPTED BY MUSIC BY CONCEIVED BY ERICA SCHMIDT, ANDREW SHERMAN SUSAN L. SCHWARTZ. Story Ever Told BASED UPON THE FILM, BY ARRANGEMENT WITH VCX, LIMITED. ADDITIONAL MUSIC AND LYRICS BY TOM KITT AND JONATHAN CALLICUT DIRECTED BY ADAM MCCABE • MUSICAL DIRECTOR: TIM EVANICKI CHOREOGRAPHER: BLUE STAR Debbie Does Dallas is a modern morality tale told as a comic musical of tragic proportions in the language of the rodeo-porno-football circus. The show is the coming-of-age story of an all-American small-town sweetheart named Debbie Benton. Debbie is captain of her highschool cheerleading team, but she dreams of making it to the big time by becoming a Texas Cowgirl Cheerleader. When Debbie qualified for the professional squad, the only thing that stands between her and the realization of her dream is bus fare to the big city: Dallas. Debbie enlists her teammates, Lisa, Roberta, Donna and Tammy, to get full-time jobs after school and on weekends to help pay for her trip to Dallas. The girls form a company called Teen Services and get jobs, but they quickly realize minimum-wage jobs just don’t pay enough. Luckily, Debbie’s boss, Mr. Greenfelt, has an idea how the girls can raise enough money in time and the girls “work hard for the money.” Through sex, sweat and tears, they manage to raise enough money for Debbie to realize her dream and make it all the way to Dallas.

The Most Fabulous Story was the very first published play produced in the Footlight Theatre in 2001. A stage manager, headset and prompt book at hand, brings the house lights to half, then dark, and cues the creation of the world. Throughout the play, she’s in control of everything. She’s either God, or she thinks she is. Act One recounts the major episodes of the Old Testament, only with a twist: Instead of Adam and Eve, our lead characters are Adam and Steve, and Jane and Mabel, a lesbian couple with whom they decide to start civilization (Procreation proves to be a provocative challenge!). Act Two jumps to modern day Manhattan. Adam and Steve are together again, and Steve is HIV positive. It’s Christmas Eve, and Jane is nine months pregnant even though she always thought of herself as the butch one. The two women want to marry and want Adam and Steve to join them in the ceremony. The ceremony is interrupted as Jane gives birth, and Steve confides to Adam that his medication isn’t working and that he’ll probably not survive much longer.

Convenience

Mothers And Sons

Convenience is a sung-through musical about family, the ties that bind and the ones we struggle to break. A single mom and her estranged twenty-six-year-old son have news for each other, but neither can find the words nor the courage. Liz can’t tell her son, Vince, that she’s remarrying and moving away; Vince is afraid of how Liz will react when he tells her about his boyfriend. During one funny, awkward, touching week, they come to realize what so many families discover: The things they feared would tear them apart end up bringing them closer together. A mother and son learn from their broken past and the promise of a different future that they can walk through a doorway without slamming it shut forever.

At turns funny and powerful, Mothers and Sons portrays a woman who pays an unexpected visit to the New York apartment of her late son’s partner, who is now married to another man and has a young son. Challenged to face how society has changed around her, generations collide as she revisits the past and begins to see the life her son might have led.

Fucking Men

BY JOE DIPIETRO • DIRECTED BY TIM EVANICKI Fucking Men is a free-wheeling adaptation of the 19th century play La Ronde, in which ten men in ten scenes sleep with and seduce one another; each encounter subtly, sometimes radically, changing their lives. The search for emotional fulfillment—the thread that connects the episodes in La Ronde—is given fresh resonance in Tony Award-winning playwright Joe DiPietro’s hilarious and heartwarming take on the German classic, transposed to the gay subculture in contemporary Manhattan.

7 Campy Sins WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY SKIP STEWART

WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTION! Ft. Lauderdale Porn Producer, Devlin Dickson, with his rag-tag video porn troupe, arrives in Possum Trot, KY to put up a Court ordered, one night only production of a Shakespearean classic. The only problem, besides not having a script for tonight’s play, is the 100 year old Theater’s Ghost, Hamilton, doesn’t want them there. The troubles mount even more when the cast arrives and won’t keep their clothes on, don’t want to rehearse and fight over what character in the play they are each assigned. The Play-in-the-play is hilarious when all the cast comes out in the only costumes the producer’s ex-boyfriend can bring, the glitz & flashy Vegas costumes from a Las Vegas Hotel’s Hollywood show, and the ending finds the Ghost persuading one of the actors into killing a fellow actor in a sword fight. But all ends well then YOU, the actual audience persuades the Ghost to let him come back to life...or does he?
