Celebrating 25 years of involvement in the LGBT community Helping to create safe schools, inclusive workplaces, and financial success The LGBT community has come a long way in the last 25 years, and so has our commitment. In 1987, we added sexual orientation to our non-discrimination policy. Since then, we’ve contributed to LGBT organizations, lent our support to anti-bullying efforts, and continued to foster a culture of equality in the workplace.

 WORLD OF PRIDE FACT ABOUT ICELAND: Iceland has the world’s first openly gay head of state, Jóhanna Sigurõdóttir.

Come Out With Pride Community,

T

he Metropolitan Business Association and our Come Out With Pride Team are very pleased to welcome you to the COME OUT WITH PRIDE 2012 celebration! Each year, the Come Out With Pride Production Team devotes countless hours to making sure that each PRIDE event is better than the previous year. Each year we also look for ways to make the event different and more meaningful. This year is no exception, as we have expanded our venue areas and have created a world experience to complete this wonderful day of celebration. This year’s theme of a WORLD OF PRIDE will take you on an international journey of self-discovery. We are very proud to stand in solidarity with our LGBT brothers and sisters, to commemorate National Coming Out Day, and to celebrate our authentic lives together. Each year our PRIDE event grows in size and attendance as a testament that more and more people feel the strength and support to come out and be themselves. We are told that many lives are changed by experiencing Come Out With Pride. Many people are strengthened by experiencing the event and by witnessing the joy of the thousands of people who attend each year. As a result of this experience, many ind the strength to inally come out and be true to themselves and their families.

GINA L. DUNCAN

PRESIDENT Metropolitan Business Association

For the many volunteers who produce Come Out With Pride – led by the amazing Mikael Audebert, Executive Director – this is the true meaning of our event. If we touch just one person, and show them that there are 100,000 other people just like them who have faced the same challenges and who now join them in celebrating their personal freedoms, then we have done our job. Come Out With Pride is more than a festival and more than a parade. It is an expression of life in its truest form – an expression of joy from living an authentic life. On behalf of the Metropolitan Business Association and the Come Out With Pride leadership team, we welcome you to Come Out With Pride 2012, A WORLD OF PRIDE!

 WORLD OF PRIDE FACT ABOUT FRANCE: France recognizes marriage licenses from anywhere else and will change civil rights to marriage and adoption rights in 2013.

A World Of Pride On Display!

A

s I am entering my fourth year with this wonderful organization, I wanted to relect on other Pride events, especially in less LGBT-friendly countries. This year, we examine the diversity our community offers. Our own LGBT community reaches out to all ethnicities, religions, backgrounds, and certainly all sexual orientations. Tolerance and acceptance are things that all communities on this beautiful planet aspire to, so it’s frustrating that these are still issues in 2012. LGBT individuals in Angola face death. In Russia, the laws got tougher, preventing LGBT people from holding their annual celebration. Even in the U.S., our government denies us the fundamental rights offered to others. Yet, we march on, celebrating in any ways we can, showing our PRIDE around the world, in all languages and cultures. This year, in a new World Showcase, we will be featuring 10 World Pride events in pictures and in stories. I strongly encourage you to visit that exhibit on the International Bridge at Lake Eola (farmers’ market area). In addition, we will be taking you around the world through entertainment, food, and cocktails. I am also excited to announce the “rebirth” of our LGBT Film Festival, OUT IN THE OPEN™. We have the director of Love Free or Die, which received the Sundance 2012 Special Jury Prize. In addition, we will be closing with a special guest who continues to inspire thousands of people around the world through her coming out story: Chely Wright. Special thanks to Margaret Nolan and Nils Taranger for leading the rebirth! Last but not least, I want

to emphasize our organization’s mission. Though a lot of fun is had planning events like Come Out With Pride, we also have two others purposes. We provide local nonproit organizations grants and scholarships. We also spread the word about PRIDE. This year, we secured TV spots through a generous BrightHouse Networks donation. We used these to broadcast 2 Public Service Announcements for 30 consecutive days on over 17 national networks. This was a irst in Florida. With your help on Oct. 6, we can do even more! Finally, thanks to our amazing sponsors, especially Macy’s for taking on the role of Presenting Sponsor in a year of backlash toward corporations that stand for equality, inclusion, and fairness. I strongly encourage you to remember all our supporters. And these sponsors DO support us! My gratitude is to an amazing team for pouring time, energy, and creativity into YOUR annual celebration. They say “it takes a village,” and I am extremely proud of my villagers! Visit our website for the latest updates on all of the fun. Live your life authentically, always!

Nine months later – in 2008 – that record company dropped Josey based on his sexuality. The action caused a irestorm in the LGBT community, one that galvanized Josey’s biggest fans. “I feel that, today, the record company might handle it a little differently only because of the rapid change in society since then,” says Josey. “Although looking back, it was the best possible thing for me, because I now have so much more creative control over everything I’m doing.” Josey took that control and ran with it. He independently reproduced his album My Life on the Radio. ome Out With Pride wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t brag about some of our own amazing Central Florida talent. This year local singer-songwriter Live Hart will be sharing her skills onstage at the Lake Eola Amphitheatre. This out artist is excited to be a part of the oficial Oct. 6 event. “I hope it doesn’t rain,” says Live. “I hope it’s a beautiful day and everyone has a good time and that I have a great sound. I just want it to be phenomenal for everyone!” Live Hart is known for her folksy R&B, evident on her irst single – released two years ago – “Please Don’t Say It’s Over.” “When I released that song, I started seeing that people were really digging what I was doing and that I was getting an audience.  WORLD OF PRIDE FACT ABOUT AUSTRALIA: Every state and territory in Australia legally recognizes both opposite-sex and same-sex relationships as de facto couples.

|  | Live Hart FROM PG.47 got such great response for my irst project. It was so encouraging.” Her smooth voice and personal lyrics deine a style that grabs listeners on a deep level. She also consistently keeps in contact with her fans and booking opportunities through her website, LiveHartOnline.com. She’s so into music, she uses this same website to share others artists and their new material that she’s found. “I have a lot of friends who are artists and musicians, and I just want us all to support each other,” says Hart. “Whatever I can do to help them – I just love music - I’ll share with my friends, because I just think it’s cool.” “I was always into music as a child. I started out playing violin and then alto sax,” says the guitar player and vocalist. “My friends and my family have always supported me. It all began for me by writing poems. I think that happens for a lot of singer-songwriters; they start out as poets.” —LIVE Live Hart is originally from New Jersey; she was raised by Jamaican parents. She moved to Central Florida to pursue schooling. She also joined a girl group, Urbanesque, which worked together for just under ive years. “We decided as a group to part ways and try our own solo careers.” “For the past few years, I have been pursuing music fulltime. I’ve done a lot of shows and performances throughout Central Florida and have been able to explore some other cities, also.” says Hart. “For the last two months, I was just hanging out, but September and October have really illed out,” says Hart.

“It’s funny how the music industry works that way.” Hart has opened for American Idol winner David Cook and R&B superstar Monica, and her own bookings continue to grow. Currently, in between these dates, she is in the studio recording her debut with Shaun Fisher on an album that they have labeled “Alternative Soul.” “It’s about 70 percent done,” she says. “I’m very excited about this, because it’s my irst solo project. I’ve been working for the last year and a half. Some of these songs I wrote two years ago. They’re still like children to me. They start as a simple melody or thought. A lot of my tunes are born in the car, because I’m always traveling, going somewhere. I have to keep a little recorder with me at all times.” “Music for me is like a little mirror into my soul. I never write in too broad of strokes or in too general of terms, because I want people to connect on a personal level. I hope they get to know a little bit about me.” HART “My goal is to put out the best product that Live Hart can. I do it for me, abut also for my audience: the girl going through that really bad breakup, that boy who is misunderstood. However, I also do it for other singer-songwriters out there, so we can be there for each other.” “This isn’t my irst Pride event. I’ve always been very supportive of the LGBT community. As an out gay woman, I always feel right at home at these events,” say Hart. “I’m very excited and happy to be asked,” says Live Hart. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the day.” |  |

he world’s only openly gay bishop, New Hampshire’s Episcopalian Gene Robinson, works to extend religious access to all LGBT people. He travels and speaks at different congregations, facing strong opposition that can even become death threats. Director Mackey Alston says this is an important year for his ilm: “We must mobilize across the nation to make sure our progress continues and we do not elect a president who considers us and our love inferior.” Mackey also knows that many LGBT people have been ostracized by religion. “Just as I have aimed to show that LGBT people are fully human to people who demonize us, I also aimed to show LGBT people that religious people are human, too, and not just evil,” says Mackey. “Bishop Robinson says, ‘The opposite of love is not hate, but fear.’” |  |

n 1995, the Academy of Country Music named Chely Wright Top New Female Vocalist. In May 2010, Chely came out publicly, writing a book and talking with Oprah. This documentary weaves together the last two years, including some of Wright’s personal videos and the public response she faced. “The audience reaction that I’ve experienced has been so positive and emotional,” says Wright. “I think my favorite reaction that I continue to see – which is a reaction that I never anticipated – is when someone approaches me and tells me that seeing my journey has helped them understand their child’s journey even more.” When asked about her coming out, the singer called it “very orchestrated” and continues: “When Oprah invited me to be on her show, it caused a tidal wave of exposure. I still get letters everyday from people all over the world.” |  |
