knitted fabric march 2016
Boucles
Boucle knits are great for transitioning between the seasons. Different colour yarns are used to create irregular, slub patterns, sometimes with a lurex inclusion for a feminine feel. This season we are also seeing patterned boucles in more regular checks, stripes and ikats.
Melanges/ Space Dyed
Melange and space dye fabrics are extremely popular and add an element of depth. Tonal marls remain relevant with brighter, contrasting colours also appearing. Marls appear irregular for washed and distressed effects.
Creased Jacquards
There are a wide range of jacquard knits this season, including those with exagerrated crinked effects. These can be in abstract patterns, sometimes mimicking snacke skin or camo, or in a more regular repeat.
Patterned Jacquards
We add an extra element to jacquard knits by the inclusion of repeat patterns. These can be knitted into the fabric or printed on the face.
Jacquard Fleece
Fleeces and towellings also appear in jacquard form, in a range of different patterns.
Reqular Jacquards
Regular repeated jacquard patterns add a geometric or filigree effect to fabrics.. Solid colours are popular while two tone fabrics have a retro seventies vibe.
Quilted Effects
Quilting effects are created through heat sealing or through being knitted into the fabric. Traditional onion, square, diamond and linear patterns are still popular with the inclusion of some more complicated patterns.
Lace and Lace Effects
Lace and crochet fabrics are key for the Spring Summer season and range from plain lengths, to those with lurex inclusions and printed or knitted paterns. Jerseys, CVCs and jacquards are given the appearance of lace through jaccquard patterns.
3d Stripes
Stripes are given a 3D element through a variiety of techniques. Jacuard patterns have raised areas, mini tucks can be knited into the fabric length to create raised areas, or tapes and lace can also be knitted into the fabric at regular intervals.
Textured Stripes
2D stripes are also given a makeover with textured effects. Marls and flecking are key, as well as knitted heavingbone and basket weaves.
Metallic Elements
Metallic elements are key for girls of all ages and appear in a variety of different ways. Lurex yarns can be knitted into the fabric for a fully shiny length, or metallic and foil prints are also popular.
Texture Play
We explore the use of different textures on one fabric, mixing soft and fluffy. Spot prints are popular, as well as lace and netting effects.
Ikats and Tribal
Ikat and tribal patterning is key for Spring Summer and appears in both stong defined repeats and more subtle, washed patterns. Jacquard elements are key for an authentic ethnic feel.
Pontelle and Lasercutting
We play around with openwork through the use of llasercut and pointelle fabrics. These can be combined with solid areas of the fabric for yet another play on texture.
Denim Look
Knitted denims are key for childrenswear as they provide a softer alternative to a true denim twill weave. They appear in a range of different colours, and have also developed into patterns and washed looks.
Bonded Fabrics
While we still see the classic performance bonded fleeces this season, we are also seeing more decorative techniques. Lace is bonded to printed neoprene, burn out jersey is bonded to CVC/neoprene, and jersey is bonded to mesh.
