CALENDAR

WASHINGTON Travel and tourism in DC are especially popular, but as busy schedules and social distancing are a normality in our lives, the Journal presents a view of the Capital, right from our pages.

Keeping up with the times is hard enough as it feels like both 100 years or only 3 seconds have passed us by since everything began.

From the Editor My Dear Readers, What a year it has been! Thank you for sticking around with us, reading each publication as it came out, sharing your ideas for what should be next, and supporting us from a distance! I especially would like to extend a very warm thank you to those of you who reached out with feedback, notes of encouragement, or just ensured that our work here at the journal has not been in vain. As this is my last edition to publish while serving as the Editor in Chief, I would like to give a very special shoutout to my beloved teacher Dr. Jarilyn Conner who has been not only a fantastic faculty advisor but also a mentor to me. As we end the school semester with finals and prepare for Summer ahead, I pray each of you Godspeed, and blessings on the journey ahead. -Jenna

This past Sunday the 18th, Washington Adventist University's Student Life Association hosted their inaugural Spring Festival, an event that they hope will continue on for the future years. The event was well attended while following all of the University and County guidelines.

Mr. Williams and his family attended this day of fun and sun! ps: don't the girls look absolutely adorable?!

Veggie chili dogs being served up by the one and only "Uncle" Lloyd Yutuc

Safety check-ins and registrations were done by Miss Barker and Dean Ashley. Visitors were able to participate and enjoy the day filled with both DJ'd and live music, wonderful food, smoothies, drinks, and many yard games.

The commons set up and readied for eager players to participate in corn hole, badminton, volley ball, disc golf, and catch.

Washington Adventist University In 1904, following church leader Ellen G. White's advice to build a new school close to the Nation's capital, Washington Training College was opened. Established as a place of learning for young Christians to prepare them for mission work abroad, the College soon discovered that their home of Takoma Park was beyond a perfect place to ground their roots. Here, today in 2021, Washington Training College went through many names but the one we know it as (besides home away from home) is Washington Adventist University. It has been a long time since we've graced the campus with our presence, and for a handful of us, we're still in wonder of what it looks like in person, having never been there ourselves. Regardless, whoever you are, wherever you may be in this present moment, know that one day we will return to campus, ready to fill the old building's with life once more.

So the end of yet another semester online has come and by God's grace we've all made out safely. As you're now either waiting for the day you don your cap and gown, or just ready to pass out and hibernate, I've decided to keep it light and simple with some of my favorite things to do to recover from this rough year.

Take a breath! We're done! (unless you have summer classes) No matter what's next for you, the best and easiest thing will be to pause for at least 10 seconds and just breath. Feel where you are, where you're sitting or standing, and just exist for a moment.

if you have a bit more time on your hands, go outside: venture into the sunlight for a bit and just enjoy nature. Take a walk and feel the freedom of not trapped at a desk bent over a screen trying to finish lab reports or essays.

If you have the energy and the time, go for a run, take a bath, do a session of stretching/yoga, break out the watercolors, oils, or acrylics and express yourself on a blank sheet of paper or canvas.

Continue the creative streak and bake, try out that Tasty recipe you've saved on your TikTok since December, try to thrift flip that vintage 80's jacket you found while hunting for some graphic T's.

Take a nap. I don't know about you, but finals and just being a junior in college have driven me to terrible sleeping habits as I'm usually in bed by 10. Come Monday the 26th, I'll be off the radar hibernating for 24 hours, gone from the waking world and in the realm of dreams.
