Summit Highlights Techniques to Attract, Retain Workforce A Workforce Summit was held at the Center for Health Sciences Auditorium at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. The program was designed to provide businesses in the region with tips, tools and access to resources to improve their ability to attract and retain employees. Rene Daniels and Derek Heikkinen of the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board offered an overview of a recent ‘Workforce Needs Assessment’ survey highlighting regional workforce trends. Tom Felch of J & D Tube Benders and CWIMMA, Kent Olson of Olson Tire & Auto and WATEA, Rich Poirier of Church Mutual Insurance Company, Kim Stitcher of Collaborative Consulting and CWITA and Hannah Vorpagel of Marshfield Clinic
led a panel discussion at the event. A panel of students also shared the factors that attracted them to certain jobs, careers or educational paths. Organizations featured at this event included The Branch, Central Wisconsin Information Technology Alliance, E3YP, Metal Manufacturers Alliance, Job Center of Wisconsin, Junior Achievement, the Reentry Unit of the Wisconsin Dept. of Corrections, Workforce Development Board, Wisconsin Automotive & Truck Education Association, The Workforce Hub, YEA! and Youth Apprenticeship. The platinum sponsor for the program was J & D Tube Benders. The silver sponsor was Greenheck. Centergy and the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board were supporting partners.

Workforce Hub: Provides a forum for collaborations between stakeholder groups and addresses challenges to workforce development, skills gaps and talent attraction/retention. YEA!: The Young Entrepreneurs Academy teaches middle and high school students how to start and run their own, real businesses. E3YP: Designed to help attract, retain, and meet the unique needs of young professionals throughout the Wausau region. The Branch: A skills accelerator that gives college students the training, connections and experience needed. Coming July 26: The Dept. of Workforce Development will provide an update on statewide efforts
