STATE OF THE ACADEMY

PRESERVE AND INNOVATE

Wayland Academy exists to prepare students for college and for life through the “Pursuit of Knowledge and the Development of Character.” Sounds simple, right?

One could easily argue that it has never been more challenging to educate young people. At Wayland, our journey over the last four years has been challenging. Yet, it has been extremely inspiring, highly rewarding, and dare I say, successful.

During the past four years, Wayland Academy has navigated crisis, change, and growth. Sometimes one at a time, sometimes all at once.

This fall, we were thrilled to start the school year with over 200 students: our third consecutive year of enrollment growth. We are indeed experiencing a period of growth in several areas.

From our annual fundraising and capital giving initiatives, to our slate of innovative academic, athletic, and extra-curricular opportunities, we continue to grow. And, maybe our dreams for the future are growing in scope as well.

All of this, as our Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation, Seth Ahlborn says, “. . . to educate our students for their future, not our past.”

This is a challenging endeavor. But as any Wayland Academy alumni would know, nothing worth doing is easy.

In the heart of the COVID crisis in 2020, we could only dream of returning to a full, healthy student body.

We imagined recapturing the spirit and competitive grit that is Wayland athletics. Would a touchdown ever be scored on Brown Field again? Could a lacrosse game be played here? There is no way we could actually row crew on Beaver Dam Lake, right?

We wondered: What do young people need to know to be successful in their future? What skills would they need? And with a world changing at light speed, how on earth would we figure that out?

We tore ourselves to pieces deciding whether or not we should build a beautiful new dorm for the young women of Wayland. How could we be crazy enough to do that!?

And so, while we managed crisis, we dreamed and envisioned our future. We did indeed change.

Over the last four years, we’ve worked hard to implement academic and mental health support and programming. We’ve secured considerable resources and invested ourselves in the tension between challenge and support, the balance between accountability for its own sake, and restorative discipline as a means to learn and develop our character. I hear plenty of adults lamenting about kids today—technology, social media, phones, video games, on and on. Much of what is said is true to some degree. But I compel you to remember that our children are only a reflection of the society we have created for them; they are a reflection of us.

and consume media. This is a critical skill for their future.

Our experiential Environmental Biology course for 9th graders is hitting a stride. Concrete evidence for that growth can be found in the beautiful gardens in front of Discovery Hall. Additionally, our 9th graders continue to benefit from an older innovation in the form of our integrated humanities course designed in large part by Wayland alum and faculty member Dr. Elise Krause `04. Today, Elise supports, teaches, and leads our faculty as an instructional coach and incredible colleague.

“We will continue to roll out innovative programs and educate incredible children for the future.”

It is our responsibility to offer the tools and experiences necessary to survive and thrive in our world. If you know me, you know I am extremely optimistic about the impact that this generation of young people will have on society if we give them the opportunity.

Our Board Chair Shelley Greenwood `73 challenges us to “preserve and innovate.” We are holding on to the core and wisdom that are Wayland Academy, and we are benefiting tremendously from that. But we are also willing to innovate, add, subtract, examine and assess.

Our new programs continue to evolve and solidify themselves in our community. Swan Library is still the heart of the community and a symbol for the academic rigor and integrity that is built into the Wayland DNA. It is changing, however. It is also home to our amazing Media Studies Program, where our students are learning how to create

We continue to utilize a $1 million grant, secured in 2022, to implement our Student Success Program. This grant enables us to further support students in the realm of academics and mental health. At some point, almost every student at Wayland benefits from that assistance. I love what the mother of Victorious Ezeh, our 2024 salutatorian, Chichi Ezeh, said in her recommendation to families: “I highly recommend this Academy to high achievers seeking support to realize their dreams and to young people requiring support to build their confidence and find their place to be able to make positive contributions globally.”

Her daughter Vicky, currently a freshman at Columbia University in New York, is a talented learner and doer.

For the second year in a row, our students have the opportunity to enroll in the Ethical Hacking Accelerator Program with our partner, CyberXE. This course focuses on cybersecurity. It is taught by current leaders in the field of cybersecurity, includes instruction in artificial intelligence

(AI), blockchain technology, and acts as an inspiring introduction to a career path and multiple critical professional sectors for both now and in the future.

We continue to strengthen partnerships with Wisconsin colleges, launching the Ripon Connection last year and spending considerable time collaborating with Lawrence University. Both presidents visited campus last year. They come to Beaver Dam for Wayland Academy’s greatest asset—our students. In fact, Dr. Folse, president of Ripon College, hand-delivered an acceptance to one of our students last spring.

It’s hard for me to stop talking about Wayland Academy and all that this community has accomplished. But I would be remiss if I didn’t constantly point to the incredible work that everyone at the Academy is doing. The work is not being done in the name of the perpetual advancement of the institution itself, but in the name of serving these wonderful young people so that they will be prepared to lead us, change us, and change the world.

In my opinion, this is work worth doing. We will continue to roll out innovative programs and educate incredible children for the future. But in doing so, we will never lose our moral compass, rooted in love, compassion, and belief in the potential of young people.

We recently completed a comprehensive campus master plan, mapping out our big dreams for the future. We will continue to preserve and innovate, solidifying our place as one of the finest schools in the country.

Thank you to all of you who fuel our growth through your inspirational support. We feel it here on campus every day.

It is only fitting to finish the way I close every assembly each Monday morning in Kimberly Chapel: “You are safe, you are loved, and you are dismissed.”

1 President of Ripon College, Dr. Victoria N. Folse, visited campus to present an acceptance package to 2024 senior, Diego Perez.

2 Prefects Jose Fabian Calvo Guevara `26, Jacqueline Fogarty `26, Lilly Westergaard `26, Jonah Ratajczak `25, Maddie Clark `25, Ssanyu Nambeguya `25, and Anton Flatt `25 show their Wayland pride while participating in a photo shoot.

IMPACT OF GIVING

Wayland academy is a place of unity, bringing together students from all walks of life. People aren’t only drawn to Wayland by the academic offerings, but by the community that fosters personal growth and meaningful connections. The support of mentors, faculty, and coaches plays a crucial role in shaping each student’s journey, while the generosity of Wayland’s donors opens doors that would otherwise remain closed. As eight of these students share, Wayland continues to be much more than just a school; it is a place to discover oneself, forge lifelong friendships, and seize opportunities that will shape their futures. Whether through volunteering, scholarship support, sharing expertise, or financial contributions, the impact of giving to Wayland is transformative—one that students will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Rumi Abbasi `25

Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia

Who or what has had the most impact on you during your time at Wayland?

“I think my mentors, Mr. Walters and Rev. Harmon, have been really great at making me feel safe and welcome. The biggest impact my mentors have had is showing me how I am truly part of this community—these people are not scary; they are genuinely there for you. There’s always someone who you can talk to about anything, whether it be your personal life, school life, or if you just feel like talking to someone. My mentors are some people I respect and feel safe with.”

What is one of your favorite memories from Wayland?

“One of my favorite memories was Orientation last year because that was my first experience here, like the first page of my book of Wayland. I didn’t know people when I arrived, and all the returning students were hanging out with friends, having fun in the dorms, and doing activities. But Orientation really helped me because I felt like I was already part of Wayland and being welcomed back, even though it was my first time here."

Ariel Battey `26

Astoria, New York

How do you think Wayland has prepared you for the future?

“Before this, I went to a junior boarding school, and I wasn’t very involved in the community or invested in my academics. As a result, I did not get into a lot of the secondary schools I applied to. But Wayland took a chance on me, and they helped me better myself and my take on academics. So now, I have a much better chance at success than I would have had if I stayed at another school.”

How has Wayland changed your life?

“Wayland gave me another opportunity to do better. Without Wayland, I wouldn’t have the chance at life I do now. If I hadn’t come here, I wouldn’t have made so many amazing friends or met people I would want to have in my future wedding.”

Who or what had the most impact on you during your time at Wayland so far?

“Definitely Mr. Warnick. Whenever I see him around campus, he always has a smile on his face and asks me how I am. My original plan was to spend one year at Wayland to rebuild myself, but he fought for me to come back. And of course, I did!”

Daniel Brunstad `27 Eagle River, WI

What is your favorite place or location on campus?

“That’s a tough one. I have to say out around Janik Terrace. That’s often the life of campus; everyone hangs out on the picnic tables and chairs. At least, when it’s not cold or raining. I really love the campus, but it’s not necessarily the place: a big part of it is the people.”

How has Wayland changed your life?

“Well, to simply put it, I don’t live in Eagle River anymore most of the time, and I call my mother a lot more. But, there’s much more to it. It’s introduced me to many different cultures and languages, and exposed me to a really diverse community. Because of that, there are more opportunities here than in Eagle River. I think Wayland has introduced me to a lot of people that are going to be important in my future.”

Lydia Fair `27 (daughter of Carla Radford Fair `00) Shakopee, MN

Who or what has had the most impact on you during your time at Wayland?

“I mean, a lot of people have had an impact on me here at Wayland. Although basic, definitely my friends, as well as my support team—my mentor, my teachers, the nurses. Also, last year’s seniors. As a brand new little, tiny freshman, I came here and I saw the seniors and they had a glowing aura around them. I remember seeing the Prefects and thinking they were just like I imagined. My mentor group last year was mainly seniors, so they really stuck with me.”

What does it mean to you to be Wayland Made?

“Wayland Made is knowing how to hold yourself accountable and being respectful. It sounds cliché, but treating others how you want to be treated. Wayland Made would be Mr. Warnick—he’s like the epitome of being Wayland Made.”

Jose Fabian Calvo Guevara `26 Guanacaste, Costa Rica

How has Wayland changed your life?

“Wayland has changed my life in a lot of ways. Because of Wayland, I’ve had the chance to see a wider world with so many possibilities. Back in Costa Rica I only had access to three public colleges. Before Wayland, I thought that those were my only chances. I learned about Wayland and the boarding school experience, and it opened my eyes to different possibilities. When I first applied to boarding schools, I did not apply to Wayland. I applied to a bunch of schools; while I got accepted to some, I couldn’t go to any because they were so expensive. I felt so low and discouraged; I felt like I wasn’t worth it and unable to reach their standards. I wanted to give up, but I decided to give it one more try. I was lucky because the next year, I got the opportunity to apply to Wayland—and here I am. When I first got here, I had the same mentality that I did in Costa Rica. I thought I might stay here for a year, then return to Costa Rica and finish school there. But I am so thankful I’ve changed my mentality since then. I started realizing that here, not only can I apply to different colleges and learn different perspectives, but I’m also able to grow as a person in ways that I cannot in Costa Rica. Interacting with people from over 30 different countries was something I would not have back home. Initially, I didn’t know if Wayland was the right choice; it was a leap of faith. Now, I am so grateful for it. At Wayland, I see all the different possibilities and can access them too.”

Easton Keil `26

Beaver Dam, WI

What is one of your favorite traditions at Wayland?

“I really like ringing the bell at Wayland. I had not been in sports that rang the bell much, until football this year. As we ring it more and more, it makes each win feel very special with the entire team around it cheering. I think it’s great to celebrate the wins.”

What is one of the most important things Wayland has taught you?

“I would say one of the most important things Wayland has taught me is the importance of each person. Before, I didn’t quite understand. I would see a person walking by, and not think much of it. With all the different people at Wayland, it really allows me to see that everyone is special and has things about them that make them unique—they’re much more than just people.”

Hanna Paszczuk `25 Czeczotki, Poland

What is one of your favorite traditions at Wayland?

“I really like the Flag Ceremony tradition when at the beginning of the year, we walk around the block with flags from each country. I think it shows a lot about Wayland’s community and who we truly are.”

What is one of your favorite classes at Wayland?

“Honestly, I don’t think I can have a favorite class because each one gives me so much as a student.”

How has Wayland changed your life?

“Wayland gave me an opportunity I never thought I would get. I wanted to study in the U.S., but I knew I could not afford a school if I didn’t get any scholarships. And at one point, I thought no one wanted to give me the opportunity. But Wayland said that I should interview with them and really saw me for who I am. Since my first interview with Mr. Warnick, I fell in love with the school. Wayland gave so much to me; in Poland, I wouldn’t get to meet so many new people or see so many new places. So, I’m truly grateful.”

Mary Whittier `27

Beaver Dam, WI

What is your favorite Wayland tradition?

“My favorite Wayland tradition would be Lessons and Carols. I appreciate how you see all these different languages shared within something universal. Plus, I love to hear everyone playing their music.”

Who is one of your favorite faculty or staff members at Wayland?

“One of my favorites is Mrs. Ganske, my mentor. I love her so much. She’s always extremely supportive and willing to help anyone who needs it. I’ve seen her offer support to so many people on campus, and I think that’s a big part of why she’s my favorite. I also really like Ms. Slusher. She’s super fun, really energetic, and very inclusive as well. I also love Ms. Chesley, because she’s truly iconic. And that’s just who I can think of off the top of my head . . . I could go on and on about this one.”

Four Pillars Program members provide recurring monthly gifts to the Academy.

InAugust, Wayland’s faculty, staff, and trustees came together to mark the close of the Wayland Made campaign: to celebrate the building of Burnham Hall—the beautiful new dorm for the young women of Wayland, to recognize the impact the campaign made on growing our endowment—now above $22,000,000, and to show appreciation for the enhancements made to Discovery Hall—our home for innovative science and STEAM classes. Wayland Made, a bold initiative, was met with enthusiasm and has ushered in a new era for the Academy.

As noted throughout the campaign, innovation requires inspiration. No matter where students begin their journey, Wayland allows them the time and space to experiment, discover their talents and passions, and develop discipline and resilience to see them through. When we challenge ourselves to do better, we set a precedent for the entire community. That’s what it means to be Wayland Made: To be deeply formed by the Wayland experience. To begin where we are and to embrace what is possible. To come together to shape the Wayland community and the world.

“Thinking about the Wayland Made campaign, we clearly remember the thrilling early days, filled with many unknowns, but full of optimism for the future. Reaching the close of the campaign and achieving our goals is immensely gratifying.

We already see the impact on the students. The Wayland community has grown larger, stronger, and more vibrant from the success of the campaign. Burnham Hall is more than a building now. It’s filled with students making their own memories, bonding, and mentoring each other; the energy is palpable. The improvements to Discovery Hall are taking students to the next level through greater learning opportunities in the labs. The campaign name—Wayland Made—seemed to resonate with everyone. We know it inspired support for the endowment, guaranteeing that the Wayland experience would be secure for future generations.”

“We already see the impact on the students. The Wayland community has grown larger, stronger, and more vibrant from the success of the campaign.”

We are profoundly grateful to all the donors and volunteers who helped to make the Wayland Made campaign a success. As we move forward and continue to build our future, we know that the strength of Wayland Academy lies in the unwavering support of our community. Together, we are not just improving a school—we are shaping lives. Thank you for believing in Wayland, for investing in our students, and for being a part of our journey.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

The 49th Annual Spring Gala & Auction, held on Saturday, April 13, was a huge success. There were 240 people in attendance, which featured a gourmet strolling buffet, a Golden Ticket raffle, student entertainment, and a silent and live auction. Donnie Bleich, from Wilkinson Auction & Realty Co., donated his time to be our auctioneer for the live auction and for our initiative—refreshing Pickard Dining Hall. This year’s Gala & Auction raised $256,410, including $123,680 for the initiative!

In their fourth year, the Online Holiday Auction and the Big Red Classic Golf Tournament were again successful events. In December 2023, the Online Holiday Auction raised almost $12,000 for the Academy Fund. This June, the Big Red Classic grew to 100 golfers and 15 volunteers and raised $19,000 for the Academy Fund.

Thank you to those who contributed their time, talent, and treasure for our fundraising events!

COMMENCEMENT 2024

COMMENCEMENT WAS A BEAUTIFUL CELEBRATION of the Class of 2024—a day filled with joy, laughter, and a few bittersweet tears. This remarkable class began their unprecedented journey at Wayland navigating virtual classes, meals in dorm rooms, masks, and social distancing. But through it all, they showed extraordinary tenacity, facing the challenges of a global pandemic with courage, humility, and a deep sense of community.

Together, they emerged stronger, supporting each other through every obstacle. The Class of 2024 brought vitality to every corner of our school, with their passion for learning, pursuit of excellence, and dedication to personal growth. They embraced curiosity, challenged the norm, and inspired us all to aim higher.

Congratulations, graduates! As you turn the page to the next chapter, know that the entire Wayland Academy community—alumni across the globe, along with faculty, staff, and friends—are cheering you on. We can’t wait to see where your story takes you. Keep sharing your Wayland pride with the world!

College Counseling

the college counseling program at Wayland Academy plays a vital role in preparing our students for their next steps— selecting schools that fit their individual needs and walking them through the application process. Our Director of College Counseling Carl Michaletz serves as the students’ guide, providing information about the decision-making process, aiding them with the applications, and helping them make an informed decision when comparing their admission offers.

Weall have an image of Wayland Academy: perhaps it is just the essence of beauty on campus. Or, maybe it’s the buildings lining Circle Drive, ringing the Victory Bell on front campus, or a glimpse of the sunset on a late winter afternoon while walking to dinner in Pickard. No matter your favorite legacy, we all care about the Academy itself. At Wayland, where over 169 years of tradition merge with the energy and enthusiasm of young people today, one is constantly aware of the past and present. This produces the school’s character: the solidity and reassurance of the past combined with the vigorous forces in education today to make a school that continues to grow and thrive.

Chances are you and your spouse or partner have devoted time and effort to accumulating assets. Because you’ve worked hard for what you’ve earned, you can help preserve your assets and leave a legacy for your family through a strong estate plan. A thoughtful estate plan is the best way to exercise flexibility and control over how much of your assets can be protected from estate taxes and other costs associated with death while providing for organizations important to you and your family. In effect, estate planning provides a framework for the accumulation, preservation, and distribution of your assets. A planned gift allows the donor to plan charitable commitments now and possibly retain the use of the funds or property for the

donor’s lifetime. Wayland Academy or other non-profits then receive the benefit at some point either before or following the donor’s lifetime.

The question for those considering planned giving is how to support Wayland Academy in the future while considering personal financial goals and concerns. Fortunately, current tax laws continue to encourage this concept. We hope you will visit our Planned Giving website and consider the outlined strategies to commit to the Academy’s future as part of your overall financial and estate planning.

People who have studied or worked at Wayland Academy, or have had their children or grandchildren attend the Academy like to recall the teachers, mentors, dormmates, teammates, classmates, colleagues, and friends. Let’s work together to ensure a strong and vital future for Wayland Academy.

This material was prepared for our alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, and other friends. It aims to provide helpful information for financial and estate planning. Please consult your attorney or tax advisor about the applicability of these ideas to your own circumstances.

HERITAGE SOCIETY SPOTLIGHT

Marilyn, Mark, and the VanHaren Family

Some places become a second home, and for the VanHaren family, Wayland Academy is it. Their history is deep-rooted in the school; Roger VanHaren H `84 taught here for 24 years. Marilyn taught here for one and remained tightly involved in the community, with all five children attending Wayland themselves (graduating in `80, `81, `82, `84, and `87). After the family left Wayland as students and faculty members, they continued to give their time and talent to the school.

Naturally, one may want to give back to the people and places that mean so much to them. That’s why Mark Wong-VanHaren, the youngest VanHaren sibling, set up a charitable remainder unitrust in 2002.

Marilyn did not initially know that Mark had set up a charitable remainder unitrust. “I was both surprised and felt very honored. He never told us about it; suddenly, we started to get these periodic payments. It impresses me that he felt so dedicated not only to his family, but to this school.”

Through a charitable remainder unitrust, both the VanHaren family and Wayland Academy benefit. Mark says, “I practically grew up at Wayland, and I owe a lot to the community. Wayland has been important for our entire family. For these reasons, it felt good and proper for some benefit to go to the Academy.  It was a great vehicle to express [my] thanks to those parties in my life who had the greatest positive impact on me—my parents and Wayland . . . As Wayland students, my siblings have also played very important roles in my life!”

A charitable remainder unitrust is an excellent way to provide income to a named beneficiary while donating the remainder of funds to a charity of choice. The income is based on a percentage of the trust’s assets, determined annually.

Marilyn is grateful for the experience Wayland gave her children, Jill `80, TJ `81, Mike `82, Chris `84, and Mark `87. “Having all five doing their best in academics, sports, cultural arts, chapel, and making friendships with classmates from all over this country and the world still warms my heart.”

The VanHaren family’s dedication to Wayland Academy is a great example of how deep bonds formed within a community can lead to lasting, meaningful contributions.

Their story serves as an inspiring reminder that the values of education, generosity, and community have the power to span decades, enriching the lives of all who pass through Wayland’s doors. As Marilyn expressed, “It is our hope that this financial contribution will enable others to have the opportunity to be ‘Wayland Made.’ It’s truly a gift that keeps on giving.”

NEWS & NOTES

Carolyn Davis Spatta-Eckhart `52 with her brother Don Gordon Davis `50. “Here are a couple of oldies alive and well. We were in East Lansing, Michigan, when I visited him. Picture two (below) in Ocala, Florida, is of David Mead `69 and me. My husband, Ed Eckhart, and I live in the Stone Creek 55-Plus community, and Dave and his wife Carol live near us. Wouldn’t you know, he and Ed would meet on the golf course?”

Budd Sprague `61 states that he is still in the harness, which keeps him relevant. The Sol Wolfe `34 Pool Dedication at last year’s Homecoming was an excellent event, including the train ride, which is a grand seven days. “Go to your homecoming, people. You will thank me!!”

Susan “Kit” Roberts McMillan `79 and her partner transferred their affordable veterinary clinic to the local humane society. She’s still doing some house calls, mostly end-of-life appointments. Kit was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Church in December 2023 after a

couple of years of seminary and chaplain training. She’s loving the work of “looking upstream towards the justice side of the gospel versus just the charity side. It sounds righteous, but it’s just trying to do more good in the world. And they let me preach! Who doesn't love that?” In September, she also met with Diane Alpaugh H`83 in Concord, NH, for a Thai lunch. “It was great to sit and catch up on life.”

Valerie Meyer Moore `81 wrote, “I retired at the end of July 2024 from teaching at Illinois Central College in Peoria, IL. My husband Jim and I will be traveling full time in retirement across the U.S. and Canada.”

Andrew Buchta `88 wrote, “Hello to the Class of 1988! Married to Teri for 31 years and we live in Barrington, IL. We have raised four children—Drew, Katie, Thomas, and Zach—all in their 20s and doing well, three of the four are working and our youngest is currently in PT school down in Florida. Most recently, we welcomed two grandchildren into our family— Kaden and Theo! We enjoy spending much of our time with our kids and family, travelling to our vacation home in Galena, IL—golfing, hiking, playing padel tennis, cycling, and swimming (former competitive triathlete). Outside of work, I remain active with a few noteworthy organizations: I’ve been a member of Rotary International (Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers) since 1998, I mentor high school students via Uncharted Learning NFP–INCubator entrepreneurial

program, and I’m a supporter of Drake University–College of Business as both sponsor of their annual career event and connecting students with our company’s college internship programs.”

john e. brackett `62

April 4, 1943–March 6, 2024

John was a storyteller, jazz lover, salesman, inventor, musky fisherman, and was passionate about anything he enjoyed doing.

As John shared in the 2022 oral history of Wayland Academy, “My great-great-grandfather was one of the founders of Wayland through the Warren side of the family, and his brothers were Fred Warren 1868 and Frank Warren 1870. My great aunt was Edith Warren Tesser 1906. My grandmother, Inez Warren Williams 1909, and grandfather, Joseph Williams 1909, met at Wayland in 1907. So, you can only imagine that I heard many, many Wayland stories before I started there in 1959.”

“Going to Wayland was a profound experience. My English teacher wrote ‘Seize the Day’ on the blackboard in Latin on my first day, and we went out for a walk to enjoy the weather. My sophomore English teacher would periodically go into dissertations on subjects that he thought would be interesting. He taught us to be more creative, and it was life-changing.”

At age 18, John began working as a groundskeeper at Indian Trail Resort in Couderay, WI. He caught the musky fever and was soon working there as a fishing guide. In his words, “In the game of musky fishing, man is the underdog. Your opponent is not eager to engage in the contest. You must find him first, and that is a difficult and sometimes impossible task. When you do find him, he consistently defeats you. When you occasionally are lucky enough to win, you take him and you are proud, but he is not usually what you are really after. You are after big fish and you will see big fish, but will rarely, if ever, catch one. For by the time a musky has acquired size, he also has acquired caution.”

John was the founder and president of a small company called Fishing Designs. He was an inventor and holder of patents for many new products in the fishing industry.

John is survived by his

sister Barbara (Hugh), niece Cindy, nephew Scott (Missy), his cousin Lauri, and their children.
