DEDICATION Sincere in his desire to live out his religious convictions, Mr. Blythe always managed to find time to help us with our problems. He has brought us closer to God. We are grateful for his faith and interest in us. So we, the Pillars staff of 1966, dedicate this yearbook to the Reverend Mr. John Blythe, the man who always walked the second mile.

A family portrait by David Blythe.

WARREN HALL COUNCIL

TOP ROW : M . Bentley, L. Newman, E. Burns, L. Tracy, B. Yeomans, BOTTOM ROW: N. Detweiler, P. Schaffer, M . Bader

Happy is the day when the councilors get their pay.

President Betsy Yeomans and capable officers have had a successful year. The Y.W.C.A. has sponsored activities including the solemn induction service and noisy pajama parties. To raise money for a Korean War Orphan, the Y.W.C.A. has sold popcorn, taffy apples, and breakfast in bed.

Moider, anyone? With this in mind the Wayland Players launched their second season with the presentation of Sorry Wrong Numb er, The Lesson, Jacob comes Home, a pantomine, and Four on a H eath. Anyone desiring used corpses should contact Mr. Clark, the able director of all these productions. All the plays were very well received by the audiences that saw them.

"I nominate Meg Bentley" STUDENT COUNCIL BACK ROW: Left to right: Hans Zorbe, Jim Goldstone, Jim Wangerin, Craig Sogard, Peter Macinnis, Kip Peterson, Brian Peterson, Karl Wagenknect, Mr. Herring, advisor ; FRONT ROW: Ellen Burns, Margaret Bentley, Betsy Yeomans, Linda Tracy, Lynn Newman.

The council this year has spent a large amount of time thinking about their purpose and goals. One notable effort this year was the attempt to do away with the "Mickey Mouse" activity. Their answer was the square dance. Whether this was successful remains to be seen.

LIBRARY STAFF BACK ROW: Left to right: Bob Edwards; FRONT ROW: John Florine, Greg Meyer, James Fredricks, Mrs. Alton Wichman, librarian, Miss Mary Swan, Vaughn Friday, David Proctor, David Palmquist.

A busy year for the art department started with a show comprised of painting done with various media by the Wisconsin artist Mel Kishner. This was the first of three shows by professionals this year. The next was a show containing the works of Marc Chagall, a known French painter and friend of Picasso. To narrate the show the French consulate came to give a lecture. The students themselves have given five shows. The art department is also building a collection of original paintings to be hung around the school. The purpose of these paintings is to educate the student who is unable to attend art classes. (Also they will provide a pleasant diversion during various lectures.) One recent addition to the art department was a series of slides of past masters with accompanying discussions. This will help Mrs. Dohman give lectures on the history of art, which the second year students are studying. The second year students are also developing their skill with watercolor, casein, and oil. The first year students are becoming acquainted with varied media and techniques.

wayland Under the excellent direction of editor Craig Sogard and the help of a few rubber deadlines, the Wayland Post went to press again this year. In order to coax forth more participation from the underclassmen, the staff sponsored an article contest which offered a ten dollar prize for the best contribution.

New regular features of the Post this year were the continuous story of Jo e Future and Lark and a human interest column, The Bear Facts. These added color to the paper much to the aggravation of our advisor Mr. Labahn. The front and back pages were handled well because, as always, we print all the Wayland news . . . just after it happens. 66

It is the goal of the Pep Club to give a booster shot of spirit to the arm of the student body. This year the pep people put on skits and activities, wore red pants, and roused the spirit of a sluggish student body. This was Pep Club's second year and its best. Next year we're gonna split a gasket.
