Cleveland Community College Yeti Baseball off to Strong Start

FEBRUARY 24, 2023—

The CCC Yetis baseball team won their weekend series at home versus USC Union February 18-19. The Yetis won both games on Saturday by scores of 6-2 and 11-3. The Bantams won the final game of the series on Sunday, 5-4.

In game one, Jamisen Eichacker pitched 6 innings, striking out four to get the win. Kael Snethen led the offense going 4 for 4 at the plate. Luke Banister and Ben Hodge doubled and Dalton Chapman had two hits including a triple. In game two, Kyle Murphy would pitch five strong innings, striking out eight to get the win. Jeb Shuler came on in relief, going two innings and striking out three Bantam batters. Snethen and Hodge doubled with Heath Slaton collecting a triple. Alex Khan would drive in three in the offensive effort. In game three, Connor Sampers would pitch 5 innings, striking out eight batters. Snethen, Eli Shenise, and Tyler Casciato would double with Shenise also hitting a homerun and driving in all four Yeti runs.

Over the weekend, Snethen would go 7 for 12 at the plate, hitting two doubles and stealing two bases.

The baseball team was back in action on Wednesday, February 22 against

Catawba Valley Community College. The Yetis won 6-4 before the home crowd at Yeti Athletics Park in a re-match of last year’s Region 10 Tournament Championship.

Shane Lanier would pitch 3.1 innings while striking out four and giving up no hits. Denis Drinkwalter would go 3 scoreless innings and strike out three Red Hawk batters. Boone Cartee came on in the ninth inning to close out the victory for the Yetis. Kyle

West All-Star game. He was also an All-Conference basketball player but went to East Carolina University to play four years of football.

Tim Hines was also a Mountaineer star in football and track. He was the first KMHS receiver to go over 1,000 yards to break Thompson’s record. He was a member of KM’s state championship 800 meter relay team and was All-Conference and team MVP. He earned a football scholarship to Davidson College where he started two seasons as the number one receiver. Suzette Feemster was a three-sport star at KMHS, where she was Athlete of the Year in 1991. She was a two-time All-Conference player and MVP in basketball. Her 21 point, 9-rebound average earned All-Piedmont honors. She was a three-year volleyball star and was Conference and team MVP. She earned a volleyball scholarship to North Carolina Central University where she started four years and earned AllCIAA recognition.
