KM softball falls to Burns

Kings Mountain High’s women’s softball team fell to non-conference foe Burns 2-0 in last week’s season opener. Burns got a home run from Laylah Haynes in the top of the second inning to take the lead.

Sage Strange hurled the win for the Lady Bulldogs. She struck out seven of the 13 batters she faced and gave up just one hit to Austyn Dixon, who went 1-for-2 on the night.

Freshman Madeline Huffman took the loss but did a stellar job on the mound. She struck out 11 Lady Bulldogs and gave up just four hits and no walks.

The Lady Mountaineers were scheduled to go to East Rutherford last night for a non-conference game. They open Big South 3A Conference action March 14 at 6 p.m. at Gastonia Ashbrook. Their next home game is March 17 against Hunter Huss.
