Transforming Ingredients
(3rd & Final Part of “STUFFING” Series)
DANYALE PATTERSON
The process of cooking is often a powerful metaphor for our spiritual journey. Just as simple ingredients can be brought together to create a delightful stuffing, so too can our lives be transformed by the power of God. In this transformative process, we see how God takes the ordinary – the mundane elements of our lives –and crafts them into something extraordinary. This concept echoes the promise found in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV), which proclaims, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
The Process
Let us consider the ingredients of a savory stuffing. Bread
cubes, onions, celery, herbs, and broth may seem like simple, even unremarkable items when observed individually. However, when combined with care and intention, they can yield a dish that brings warmth, satisfaction, and joy to those who partake in it. In the same way, our lives consist of various experiences, relationships, and struggles. They can be seen as individual fragments of our existence. Yet, when we invite God into the process, He begins to blend those elements together, providing purpose and flavor that we could never achieve on our own.
The Oven
Moreover, the process of making stuffing requires the right environment – a warm oven that allows all the flavors to meld together. Spiritually, we too thrive in an environment where we feel safe to grow. This can be found in community, fellowshipping with other believers who encourage us, support us, and pray for us. Hebrews 10:25
(NLT) says, “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” In this supportive atmosphere, we can experience firsthand the miraculous transformation God is working within us.
A Closer Walk
Lastly, stuffing is often baked until it’s golden and crispy, reminding us that spiritual growth is a process that takes time and care. Romans 12:2 (NIV) encourages us to “not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Our spiritual preparation is an ongoing journey, much like the time it takes for our stuffing to bake fully in the oven. As we allow God’s Word to transform us, we prepare ourselves not only for Thanksgiving but for a closer walk with Him.
PRAY THIS PRAYER:
“Lord I have many thing to be grateful this Thanksgiving.
• Mash potatoes with 3 tablespoons of butter. Stir in the cream cheese, sour cream, onion salt, garlic powder and pepper until smooth.
• Spoon into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Melt remaining butter; drizzle over the top. Cover and freeze for up to 1 month. Or bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until heated through.
I praise you for your goodness and mercy operating in my life. I ask that you would continue to make and mold me into the person you want me to be. Forgive me when I have failed to glorify you in my thoughts, words, or deeds. Please help me to meditate on you when life gets difficult. In Jesus’ name - Amen.”
CONNECTING TO GOD:
I encourage you to open your heart to God’s love and grace. Seek forgiveness for past wrongs, and invite Jesus into your heart as your Savior and Lord. Find a supportive community in a local church where you can grow and serve others. You can cultivate a meaningful relationship with God by dedicating daily time to reading the Bible and praying.

History Of Thanksgiving
By Jack Weller
Have you ever wondered why America was the first nation to celebrate Thanksgiving in November each year?
The following article shares the three federal proclamations that set the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.
If you have ever watched Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, you would hear Linus van Pelt explain the first Thanksgiving like this:
In 1621, the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving feast in America. They invited the great Indian Chief Massasoit and ninety of his warriors, who brought abundant amounts of food. Honored guests were Governor William Bradford, Captain Mills Standish, and Elder William Brewster, who was a minister who may have said a prayer something like this:
We thank you, God, for our homes, our food, and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice.
On October 3, 1789, President George Washington wrote a proclamation that declared that November 26th, the last Thursday in November, would be a public day of Thanksgiving. The proclamation can be found at: https://founders.archives. gov/documents/Washington/05-04-02-0091
Washington wrote: •To be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor— and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving
and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”
• To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us--and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
• —To render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed
On October 3, 1863, Abraham Lincoln declared that the last Thursday in November would be a national holiday of Thanksgiving. His proclamation is available at: https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/ photos-and-video/photo/2012/11/abraham-lincolns-thanksgiving-day-proclamation-page-1
Lincoln wrote, “It has seemed fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and
observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. “
On October 6, 1941, the House passed a joint resolution declaring the last Thursday in November to be the legal Thanksgiving Day. The Senate, however, amended the resolution establishing the holiday as the fourth Thursday, which would consider those years when November has five Thursdays. The House agreed to the amendment, and President Roosevelt signed the resolution on December 26, 1941, thus establishing the fourth Thursday in November as the Federal Thanksgiving Day holiday.
Roosevelt's proclamation is available here: https:// www.roosevelthouse.hunter. cuny.edu/exhibits/the-roosevelts-and-thanksgiving/ Here's one thought for you to consider: Perhaps the fourth day of November should be declared a Day of Giving Thanks. May each of us take time to give thanks for the gifts God provides – our house, food, clothes, safety, a fair government, our health, and the opportunity to serve others. Give Thanks for these gifts, this Thanksgiving.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deuteronomy 6:5

Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman offers tips for safe holiday shopping
The busy holiday season has officially begun, which means that local shopping centers will be packed with crowds of eager shoppers looking for a deal on the perfect gift for their families and friends. Each year, hundreds of millions of people participate in Black Friday shopping. Since recording of incidents began during the early 2000’s, an estimated 17 deaths and 125 injuries have occurred as a result of Black Friday shopping crowds.
To avoid an unnecessary tragedy like these past incidents, Sheriff Norman offers some reminders to help you stay safe before you head out to find that perfect present:
• Keep your purse or wallet close to your body and avoid keeping your phone in your back pocket where it can easily be taken.
• Never fight or argue over an item in the store!
• Stay aware of your surroundings at all times and locate the exits closest to you.
• Before you leave for the store, let a friend or family member know where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Do not leave bags visible in your vehicle. Stow them in the locked trunk or take them directly home.
• Wait until you are asked by the cashier to take your credit or debit card out of your wallet. Someone waiting behind you may use this as an opportunity to look over your shoulder and get your account information.
• If you see someone or something
suspicious, notify a store employee or law enforcement officer.
If you prefer to avoid the brick-and-mortar stores altogether and do your shopping online, you may still be at risk of becoming a victim of a cyber-crime. Here’s some ways you can avoid this:
• Only shop on secure, trusted websites. Look for the “HTTPS” or a lock symbol at the beginning of the URL on the website you are visiting. The “S” stands for “secure” which means it is safe to enter your information.
• Keep a record of all of your online purchases and monitor your bank activity for any purchases that do not match your receipts.
• Use a secure internet connection to do your shopping such as your home Wi-Fi. Public networks like those available at coffee shops are not secure and may be used to collect your private information.
• Do your research if you are unfamiliar with a particular online retailer. Take your time to ensure that the website is legitimate before making a purchase.
“While the holidays are a happy and exciting time, we cannot forget how important it is to continue to keep ourselves and our communities safe,” said Sheriff Norman.
“Take a little extra time to review these safety reminders before you begin your holiday shopping to help keep the holiday cheer!”

Many of my friends have been using every spare moment for the last several weeks, trying to fill their buck tag. Some are holding out for a certain deer, while others are not as picky. But no matter which type of hunter they are, there is one thing certain. Both are growing tired. The early mornings are becoming less exciting, and the cold weather makes even the preparation much more difficult. Some will lay their weapon down and wait until next year. For myself, I am also lingering a little longer on the pillow. The days of not seeing a deer seem to fill my mind more than the days I have had some success. The battle is whether to believe the pursuit will eventually bring the prize I am so desirous of – and am I willing to wait that long.
If you are like me, you have some pretty large pursuits. There are some events or accomplishments in your life you are hoping materialize and that you have been working hard toward. Right now, however, you are tired from the pursuit. The days of drought have turned into periods of doubt. The obstacles that once seemed conquerable now look insurmountable. And the problems you once overcame have simply been replaced by newer ones. The battle is now moving to the mind. The mind says quit, move on, and reach for something else more within grasp. The body and spirit agree. And then there’s the truth. Truth always trumps the mind, spirit, and body. It validates or voids. It confirms or nullifies. It reprograms the mind to reality, refreshes the body, and reinvigorates the spirit. Truth does not need any prop. It stands alone, and it is there for us. Are you tired from the pursuit of your ambition? Are you lingering longer on the pillow? Is your mind telling you to quit and that there is no use to keep working toward the goal? If so, take a hard look at the truth. That is, find out what God says about your pursuit. After all, He is Truth. He will confirm or deny what your mind, body, and spirit are saying about your search. And if needed, He will put you back on the right track; but not toward an easier goal, but one that is in His perfect will and one that will give you the fulfillment you are longing for. When that happens, you will no longer just work as if everything is up to you, but you will also pray as if everything is up to God.
