Transportation Administration
Cleve. Co. provides
By Alan Hodge
Transportation Administration of Cleveland County, Inc.
(TACC) is a non-profit agency that provides general public transportation for Cleveland County residents.
TACC started back in April 1988 in an uptown Shelby location before moving to a spot at the corner of Double Shoals road and NC18. It settled in its present location at 952 Airport Road, Shelby in July 1999. TACC’s white and blue vans are a familiar sight in and around the county. TACC has a total of twenty-five vans. All vans are ADA compliant with wheelchair accessibility (all but one).
Twenty-three of the vans are used for Demand Response trips and the other two are used for our Fixed routes Cleveland County
Transit (CCT) and West End REACH. Rides for Demand Response trips include trips to Medical appointments, pharmacy, Dialysis, Adult Day Care programs and etc.
Cleveland County Transit (CCT) has 31 stops/4 rounds daily Monday through Friday from 7am ~ 3:10pm. West End REACH has 9 stops/7 rounds daily Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 9:00am ~ 2:45pm. Rides for the fixed routes are free to the public. The fixed routes include stops at the Public Library, Cleveland Community College, Walmart, Cleveland Mall, Department of Social Services, Atrium Health ER, other local offices and shopping places. Outside of Cleveland County, TACC provides rides to Gastonia, Charlotte, and the VA in Asheville on the second Tuesday of every month.
Passengers love the service TACC provides. According to Executive Director Stephanie Costner, TACC provided 45,826 trips last year. James Mask is a faithful TACC rider. “ I do not drive, and I have been riding TACC for seven and a half years,” he said. “I love it.” A REACH rider has been using the service for three years. It has helped me tremendously get to my appointments and to Walmart. It has really been a blessing.
Costner, who has been with TACC for 25 years and started out as a driver, has seen the service grow as it meets the needs of Cleveland County residents. It is a wonderful service, she said. There is a high demand for transportation services in Cleveland County and TACC is a way for those who might not have any
means of transportation or family or friends to help them get back and forth to appointments. I have met some wonderful people using this service. Some of them were riding TACC when I first started as a driver and are still using it. Our main goal is service to serve the community and the safety of our passengers. This is something TACC strives to achieve daily in its quest to help folks keep moving to the places they need and want to be.
Interested in using TACC; rides can be scheduled by calling (704)482-6465. Other contact and general information on these services are available online at www.taccshelbync.com.

How to make aging pets more comfortable
Pets are valued members of many families, and their owners typically do everything they can to ensure their furry friends live as comfortably as possible.
Care becomes even more important as pets get older. Just like people, aging pets may eat less and sleep more. They may have reduced stamina and even experience stiffness when getting up from sleep. Certain pets may experience failing eyesight, hearing loss and/or incontinence.
According to an American Pet Products Association survey, 67 percent of U.S. households have a pet and will have to cope with that pet becoming a senior at some point.
Senior animals might need a little extra help as they age, particularly
with regard to comfort. These tips can help.
• Visit the vet more often. Senior pets may need to see the vet more frequently than they used to.
Pets typically visit the vet every year. Senior pets may require two visits per year. Speak with a veterinarian about how often your aging pet should come in for checkups. Checkups can help identify illnesses earlier and ensure any aches and pains are addressed immediately.
• Address mobility issues. Aging pets may need help getting around. Non-skid carpet runners in hightraffic areas can help pets walk around securely. Steps or ramps can make it easier to get on or off beds or in and out of vehicles.
• Install doggie doors. Senior
pets may need to relieve themselves more frequently. A doggy door can allow for faster access to the outdoors. Similarly, a litter box with a lower opening makes it easier for aging cats to use the litter box.
• Ensure ample protection against the elements. Aging pets may feel the weather more than younger pets. They may need sweaters and coats or booties to protect their paws from the snow and ice. Cooling or heating mats may improve comfort indoors.
• Purchase animal diapers. Some senior pets may not be able to control themselves. Diapers and absorbent pads can keep them dry and prevent soiling around the house.
• Help the animal lose weight. Pets should maintain a healthy body
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Philippians 2:3
weight, which can relieve pressure on joints and reduce risk for certain illnesses, including difficulty breathing and skin irritations. Speak with a veterinarian about the right foods and types of exercise for your pet to keep its weight in check. Aging pets need extra patience and care.

Healing for your pain
“The God of Miracles Series”
DANYALE PATTERSON
Do you need physical restoration, emotional healing, or spiritual renewal? The Scriptures show us that healing isn’t just an abstract concept; it’s a very real, loving promise from God, who is called Jehovah Rapha - The Lord who Heals. One of my favorite passages is in Psalms 103:2-5 (NKJV). It says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” These verses demonstrate that God cares for us and has solutions for the issues and pain we experience in our spirit, soul, and body. The Bible is packed with stories of miraculous healings that speak volumes about God’s compassion and power.
Prayer and Healing
Let’s dive into a truly inspiring story from the Old Testament that reminds us just how important prayer is in healing!
In the Old Testament, King Hezekiah found himself facing a life-threatening illness, and what did he do? He turned to God with heartfelt prayers, fervently praying for mercy and healing. And guess what? God listened and answered. 2 Kings 20:5b (NLT) says, “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the LORD.” In addition, God extended his life by fifteen more years! Hezekiah’s miraculous recovery not only strengthened his faith but also highlighted the link between our prayers, faith, and divine intervention.
Healing is a Process
Every wound has a story, and every story matters to God. Psalm 147:3 (NIV) assures us, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” However, sometimes healing is a process, but with each step we take in faith, we draw closer to experiencing His unwavering love. Trust in God’s perfect timing and goodness. Lean into God’s love, allowing Him to pave the way toward restoration. While you wait, hold onto the truth found in Isaiah 53:5: “By his stripes, we are healed.” Every time you feel broken, remember that healing is possible. Keep that faith strong,
and anticipate the miracles that are coming into your life!
PRAY THIS PRAYER:
“Jehovah Rapha, my healer, I give you praise. You created my body and you know how to make it better. Forgive me for not being a wise steward of my body and soul, doing things that brought negative consequences. Please help me to do better. I need you Lord. Make me whole again. Heal me and I shall be healed. Save me and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. In Jesus’ name - Amen.”
CONNECTING TO GOD:
I encourage you to open your heart to God’s love and grace. Seek forgiveness for past wrongs, and invite Jesus into your heart as your Savior and Lord. Find a supportive community in a local church where you can grow and serve others. You can cultivate a meaningful relationship with God by dedicating daily time to reading the Bible and praying.
Danyale Patterson would love to connect with you! Contact her at www.danyale.com to share a testimony, send a prayer request, or book her for speaking engagements.

I can’t remember a nicer August than we’ve been having in my area. It has acted more like May. The mornings have been nice, the rain adequate, and I’m having to mow my yard every few days. While it acted more like May, it has felt more like September. I feel rushed to get fully prepared for deer season. I still have a field to plant and a couple of tree stands to hang before I can think about getting all my equipment together. And then until November, I’ll watch and wait. Watch my trail cameras and wait until I see a buck I want to hunt. Sure, I may harvest a doe for a friend in need, but for me, I’ll watch and wait for that buck until closer to the rut. As many of you know, during that time, what shows up in the woods may not have been seen on a camera any time before. The neighboring bucks will begin moving away from their home territory to look for that first doe in heat. This is when hunting gets good. And for me, since I only have so many days I can hunt, I don’t want to waste my time and energy on unproductive times. Sure, I love just sitting in the woods, but I also like the hope and anticipation of a harvest.
I think everything in life works best when there is an anticipated outcome. Even doing nothing can have an anticipated outcome. It’s that rest will occur. When we do nothing without an anticipated outcome, we say we’re bored. There’s a difference. The fear, however, in thinking only about the outcome, is we can fail to enjoy the process. We can get so wrapped up in the results, we forget about some of the delightful details that gave us the best chance for the success we expect. Each day I make a to-do list. It is a list of outcomes I want to accomplish. But the outcomes are nothing without a plan to achieve them. Today, what will make my day unforgettable will not be all I was able to accomplish, but it will be something special, or different, or unexpected, that will turn one mundane outcome into a memory. And memories are the things we share with others.

Dogs are not disposable
By Deb Hardin
Rescues all over the country are busting at the seams. Dogs are dying horrible deaths due to humans' lack of caring. First, dogs are domesticated. Dogs cannot survive on their own. Have you looked at photos of dogs that have been on their own for some time? They are starving to death, eaten with parasites, and injured; the list is long. So, before you dump your dog on a deserted road, please remember you are sentencing your dog to a horrible, slow death unless some Good Samaritan shows up and takes him/ her in.
Are you considering
adopting? Do your research. Too many times we get calls from vet’s offices asking can we take a dog because the owners have brought the dog in to be euthanized. Perfectly healthy dogs who did nothing wrong, but humans changed their minds. If you are truly considering adopting and are ready to commit to the life of the dog, then research the dog that may
fit your lifestyle. Working dogs need jobs, lots of activity, and structure. If you are a couch potato or going to try to create a dog for 8 hours while you work, look for another breed. Do not adopt a dog on looks alone. The goal is to match the dog to your lifestyle. Invest in a trainer! A trainer could make a world of difference for your dog and you.
County Shelters (not all as some do an awesome job that we visit regularly), do your job. Managed intake does not mean half the shelter is empty. It also does not mean that you refuse to pick up dogs who are abandoned and stand the chance of getting hit by a vehicle, attacked by
a predator or starved to death. Your job is not only to pick up those in need, but to get homes for those in the shelter. Rescues are here to help (we help several shelters) but cannot help when volunteers are denied seeing the dogs in the shelter, cannot evaluate the dogs in the shelter, for that matter can’t even find out how many or what dogs are in there. What happened to transparency???? I firmly believe shelters with a compassionate leader can make their 90 percent live release rate considered no-kill without cooking the numbers. I know one director who has a 98 percent live release rate. She also has helped numerous
other shelters to save lives. Amazing what truly caring people can do together. Low cost spay/neuter clinics are needed everywhere! Our county desperately needs one. We could work in different county areas, even pick up and return the dogs home. Getting dogs in our county (and other counties) should be a priority. The number of puppies now is unreal, and puppy season is yearround. Recently, I went to an area where a person had around 30 dogs unaltered in his care. Several were females. The local shelter picked up some, but there is no schedule to get the others as far as we know. All the females need to be
picked up and spayed immediately. By the time they go back, more puppies will be born into a life of hell. A neighbor told of puppies getting attacked by predators, hit by vehicles, diseased, and more. Volunteer to help with a rescue or at your local shelter (if they welcome volunteers). Walk dogs, go to events, help socialize the dogs, take pictures for posts on the adoption sites, or volunteer to foster. In our case, we have so many dogs now that our current fosters have doubled and tripled. Even if it is short-term, just a week would help save more lives. Dogs are loyal and love you unconditionally. Can we not return that love?

Hamrick Family Celebrates 100 Years of Reunions
The Hamrick family came together for a special milestone on August 25, 2024 for the 100th Annual Cameron Street Hamrick Family Reunion. The festivities took place at the historic Hamrick house on Beaver Dam Church Road, a cherished family landmark.
The Irwin-Hamrick log cabin, built around 1794 and registered as a National Register of Historic Places site with the U.S. National Park Service, has been a cornerstone of the Hamrick family story since Cameron Street Hamrick (1822-1900) purchased it in 1850. Each year, the family gathers on the fourth Sunday in August for a potluck lunch, fun games, and a chance to catch up and share stories.
The reunion celebrates Cameron Street Hamrick and his wife, Rebecca Elmira Bridges Hamrick, who raised six sons in the late 1800s. Their legacy lives on through their descendants, who have spread across Cleveland County and the surrounding western Piedmont region of the Carolinas.
As the oldest surviving house from the early republic era in Cleveland County, the log cabin has proudly remained in the Hamrick family for over a century. The 100th reunion was a wonerful celebration of the family’s rich history and lasting connections, bringing together more than 200 people to honor their shared heritage.
