Contrary to popular belief, people can succeed without obtaining a college degree. For the most part, not all careers require one, and some people with degrees remain unemployed. In some cases, the absence of a degree can prevent higher wages and opportunities, but for the most part, it doesn’t determine everything. In this article, you will learn why college is not always a catalyst for success.
College Doesn’t Guarantee a Career Many high school students think that after four to six years of working on an undergraduate degree, they will have a job and a college diploma. Unfortunately, according to recent data, around 5.4% of graduates have yet to 몭nd a job. Another thing that new graduates can’t guarantee is a job in a 몭eld related to their degree. According to a survey, over 20% of recent college graduates said they couldn’t 몭nd a job in their chosen area. Furthermore, almost half of recent graduates aren’t using their degrees in their current job roles. Most people usually take around three to six months after getting their degree to 몭nd a job. For others, it may take longer.
Some Jobs Don’t Require a Degree
Around 36% of the currently available jobs require no education beyond high school. This means that a little over a third of positions could be 몭lled by individuals without a college degree. Although it doesn’t mean that degree holders won’t look for a job, around 40% of recent college graduates are currently underemployed because they’re working in positions that don’t require a college degree.
Skills are Preferred Employers may spend varying amounts of time reviewing a candidate’s resume depending on the company and their various factors, such as the title and the number of applicants. Regardless of whether or not you have a degree, your resume should contain all the necessary skills to impress the potential employer. Having the required skills and education is very important for most companies, but for individuals without a degree, having exceptional abilities can help you land a job.
Alternative Education Options A survey conducted by a company revealed that 94% of parents expect their children to go to college after graduating high school. If you’re unsure that college is for you, don’t despair. There are many other ways to get the skills and knowledge that will allow you to excel in the future. Spending the next few years studying at a traditional university won’t prepare you for a bright future, but other viable options can.
