Ushaiger
USHAIGER is a small village near in the town of Shagra in Najd region. It is located approximately 180 km northwest of Riyadh. It was originally known as A’ekel and was replaced to Ushaiger which means “Little Blonde” because the village was walled by red mountains on its northern side. Yes, the mountains were red but during those times, red and blonde were commonly interchanged. The village belongs historically to the Tamim tribe although there were other tribe made its residence there. It was the hometown for some famous families such as the Al Thani’s of Ma’adid clan; the ruling family of Qatar. This place is one of the oldest village in the Kingdom and the villagers here started 1500 years ago. The village is completely made of mud houses which was the available material for construction during that period. This also has been the common and major stopping point for the pilgrims from the northern countries such as Iraq, Iran. and Kuwait to perform Hajj and Umrah.
