FLOOR PLAN The Zia Pueblo School was designed as a new elementary school for the Zia Pueblo located North of Albuquerque, NM. The program included kindergarten through 5th grades, with a gymnasium, and community meeting room. The design provides for solar gain in the winter and shade in the summer. The building is oriented and organized around the sacred directions of the pueblo.

SITE ANALYSIS COMPOSITE

PARTI DIAGRAM THE MASTER STUDIO PROJECT GOAL WAS TO CREATE A LARGE SCALE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN THAT WAS POETIC, RICH, AND PLACE APPROPRIATE. THE SOLUTION WAS TO CREATE AN URBAN DESERT OASIS SIMILAR TO A DESERT ARROYO. THE ARROYO PROVIDES THE DESERT WITH WATER AND IS A GATHERING PLACE FOR LIFE IN THE SOUTHWEST. THE BUILDINGS ARE CARVED BY SITE MOVEMENT-

FALL 2004

SITE USAGE PLAN CREATE THE INTERIOR WALLS OF THE ARROYO WHILE THE EXTERIOR CONTINUES TO CONFORM TO THE URBAN DESERT FORMAT. THE COMMERCIAL SPACES AND THEATRE ARE LOCATED ALONG MAIN CIRCULATION WHILE THE RESIDENTIAL SPACES ARE LOCATED ON THE LESS TRAFFICED ROADS.
