Our much-loved preschool is part of our district’s family of schools—delivering excellence for each and every student. Preschool classes are inclusive and diverse. The classroom environment is warm and caring. Our teachers do an outstanding job of both promoting independence for kindergarten and helping them with that transition.
WHAT SETS US APART? We are the only preschool that is fully integrated and aligned with Wayzata Public Schools. 4 We promote independence for kindergarten AND help with the transition. Because we are part of the Wayzata School District, we are able to align our curriculum and share assessment data with our elementary schools.
4 W e serve children of all abilities. Our inclusive classrooms allow typical
and special needs students to learn and grow together. Many classrooms have an early childhood special education teacher teaching alongside the general education teacher.
4 W e support the whole family. Our ECFE (Early Childhood Family
Education) classes and preschool teachers all work together to make preschool a positive experience for your entire family.
CURRICULUM AND ASSESSMENT We use the Creative Curriculum and corresponding Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment for all of our 3- and 4-year old-preschoolers. The Creative Curriculum is a hands-on exploratory approach to learning, and it teaches critical thinking skills. We use Teaching Strategies Gold to measure the development of each child so that our lessons meet the developing needs of our students.

PRESCHOOL
FULL-DAY PRESCHOOL FOR 4 -YEAR-OLDS Birthdates between June 1, 2020– September 1, 2021 Wayzata Early Learning School offers full-day preschool programs at each of our nine district elementary schools. Full-day preschool is a high-quality preschool and childcare program designed to meet the social and educational needs of 4-year-olds. Children enrolled in full-day preschool will participate in a wide range of activities throughout each day, including rest time. Each classroom has a maximum of 20 students and is staffed with two adults. Children need to be able to stay with the group and follow expectations. If your student has special needs, please reach out to your case manager. The program will do their best to accommodate children with special needs, but full-day preschool, childcare is not an IEP placement and parents are responsible for the cost. The program emphasizes academic, social-emotional and physical development for 4-year-old preschoolers. Children who are 5 years old and eligible for kindergarten may not be a good match for this 4 year old program. REGISTRATION IS BY LOTTERY. Please see details on registration page 24. • Non-school day childcare options are provided in partnership with Wayzata Kids and are available for full-day preschool only. • Students attending preschool at elementary schools must be fully potty trained before the start of the school year. Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) We encourage our students to be safe, kind and helpful and to respond to conflict in a positive, healthy way. This is accomplished through a system of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS), including: • creating a safe and supportive learning environment • teaching age-appropriate social-emotional skills • setting behavior expectations This approach is also used in all of our district’s elementary schools.
Classroom Engagement Model (CEM) We know that classroom participation leads to more learning, increased skill acquisition and better outcomes. We use the research-based Classroom Engagement Model teaching practices to engage our students and encourage their full participation.
FOUR-STAR PARENT AWARE-RATED Parent Aware is Minnesota’s quality rating system. It identifies programs using best practices to prepare children for kindergarten. We are a four-star rated Program, which is their highest possible rating!

Did you know? You can still sign up if your child has turned 4-years-old. You do not need to attend the Wayzata Early Learning School to participate.
Connect at 3 is for all families in the district. Participating in Connect at 3 activities helps you develop a relationship with early learning professionals in the Wayzata School District.
wayzataschools.info/connect-at-3 18 | 2025–2026 Annual Class & Activity Guide
We’re excited to connect with you and your 3-year-old! You and your child are an important part of our Wayzata Public Schools community. Through Connect at 3, our early childhood specialists will get to know you and your child, and share tips and resources which can support the learning and development needs of your child.
The Early Childhood Screening visit is one of many Connect at 3 opportunities Wayzata Public Schools provides free early childhood screening for all 3- to 5-year-olds living in our school district. Identifying any health or developmental concerns early allows us to connect you and your family with district and community resources who, if needed, can provide earlier intervention services and learning opportunities for your child. The screening assessment is free and is required by the State of Minnesota before a child can begin kindergarten. Families who participate in an Early Childhood Screening visit will gain valuable insights about important milestones in their child’s growth and development. The screening visit is structured to include fun, age-appropriate activities related to your child’s health and development, including:
CONNECT AT 3
• Social and emotional development • Fine and gross motor ability • Cognitive development • Speech, language and articulation • Vision, hearing and physical growth • Health and immunization history Parents/guardians accompany their child through the approximate hour-long visit. After completing the screening activities, our early childhood specialists will share information about your child’s growth, development, and learning.
“ The staff were so kind and helpful. Early Childhood Screening helped us understand our child’s development and connected us to support for early intervention. Thanks to them, our child is thriving, and we feel ready for what’s next!” wayzataschools.org/earlylearning | 19
