Technology levy renewal

Vote November 7, 2023

On November 7, 2023, Wayzata School district residents will be asked to vote on the renewal of technology levy funding.

The State of Minnesota does not dedicate funds for technology in our schools. Districts must rely on voter-approved levies. Thanks to strong community support, Wayzata Public Schools currently has two technology levies in place.

What is the tax impact?

• There is no tax increase if voters approve the levy because it is a renewal of an existing locally-approved levy.

What is the ballot request?

The request is for a 10-year technology levy of $5.7 million per year. Approval of the levy will allow the district to:

• Replace aging classroom technology equipment and student and staff devices

• Maintain school safety and security systems

• Maintain essential technology support for students and staff

Why do we have to renew one of the levies now?

We have two tech levies in place. One expires with taxes payable in 2025 and one expires with taxes payable in 2029. School districts can put a levy request on the ballot up to five years before it goes into effect.

We want to ensure that we are able to maintain our current level of funding, so we are asking voters to renew the tech levy that expires after taxes payable in 2025 now.

Learn more about mail-in and early voting at wayzataschools.info/tech-levy or call 763-745-5005 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your polling location at mnvotes.org

Wayzata High School Theatre Department Proudly Presents CINDERELLA

Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein

Music by Richard Rodgers

Book by Douglas Carter Beane

Directed by Justin Spooner

The beloved fairy tale is brought to new life onstage in this updated version of the classic musical. Ella is a kind-hearted maiden forced to live in servitude to her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, while dashing Prince Topher is privileged but uncertain about his ability to rule the kingdom. When their unexpected meeting at the royal ball is cut short by the stroke of midnight, Ella must return to the life she desperately longs to escape, while Topher is determined to find her. Will love (and a little fairy magic) prevail to bring them their longed for happy ending?

Where School Begins!

Preschool

From the time your children are born until they start kindergarten, our district’s Early Learning School is your school—a place where you and your children can attend classes, participate in social activities and build relationships with teachers, other early childhood experts and other young families. We hope you can join us this fall! Our much-loved preschool is part of our district’s family of schools delivering excellence for each and every student. Preschool classes are inclusive and diverse. The classroom is warm and caring. Our staff do an outstanding job of preparing preschoolers for kindergarten and helping them with that transition.

Classroom staff use Creative Curriculum to plan activities and Teaching Strategies Gold to monitor children’s learning. Second Step curriculum is used for whole group social emotional lessons. The Classroom Engagement Model is used to ensure every child is engaged and learning. Pyramid Model is used to provide high quality learning environments, staff and student relationships, and targeted teaching of social emotional skills.

• There is limited space available in our part-day preschool programs.

• Classes are located at the Early Learning School and all nine elementary schools.

• Be sure to check out our nature-based preschool too.

ECFE

ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) is a nationally-celebrated, school district-based parenting education program for families with children from birth to kindergarten entrance. Participating in ECFE helps you to form relationships with other families in the district and introduces you to our district’s learning experts and resources. It also engages your child in fun, age-appropriate learn and play activities.

Connect at 3 is a way to make sure you’re getting the support you need from the time your child turns 3 until they start kindergarten.

Here’s how it works.

• You sign up to receive Connect at 3 emails and texts.

• We send you information about:

• Fun social and learning events for you and your child

• How 3- and 4-year-olds learn and develop

• How to sign up for a free developmental assessment

• Opportunities to share feedback

Together, we’ll listen to, learn from, and support the needs of our children.

Did you know?

You can still sign up if your child has turned 4-years-old. You do not need to attend the Wayzata Early Learning School to participate. Connect at 3 is for all families in the district.

Participating in Connect at 3 activities helps you develop a relationship with early learning professionals in the Wayzata School District.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Baby Steps (0-12 months by 9/1/2023) Non-Separating

Get to know other people with babies the same age as yours. Join us for playtime, conversation and the chance to learn from your peers and our educators. Classes are facilitated by our experienced, licensed parent educators and early childhood teachers. Everyone with a new baby is welcome, not just first time parents. Some sections are non-separating and others will begin a gradual separation at some point during the year.

Busy Ones (12-24 months by 9/1/2023) Gradually Separating

Explore the world through your toddler’s eyes, connect with other families, enhance your parenting skills, discover fresh activity ideas, and navigate the joys and challenges of raising a toddler. Enjoy parent/child time including songs, activities and games that will help your child grow in every way. Relax and enjoy the parent support and discussion time while building a network of friends for your child and family. This is a gradual separation class. Parents will stay with children for the first 3 weeks. On week 4 parents will practice separating from the children for a short period of time. This time will be extended throughout the school year.

Kids on the Go (24-36 months or 24+ months by 9/1/2023) Separating

Join this class and watch your child explore every learning opportunity with curiosity. Children will practice social skills such as listening to the teacher, turn taking and following in line while experiencing a fun and loving classroom environment. Enjoy parent/child time including songs, activities and games that will help your child grow in every way. Relax and enjoy the parent support and discussion time while building a network of friends for your child and family. Separating happens in the 2nd week of class.

Kids

on the Go—STEM

(24+ months by 9/1/2023) Separating

Follow your child’s lead and discover developmentally appropriate experiments and activities that will enhance a child’s natural curiosity surrounding science, technology, engineering, and math. Such activities include baking soda vinegar experiments, building catapults, observing worms and caterpillars in springtime, and much more! Enjoy parent/child time including a STEM activity, songs, and games that will help your child grow in every way. Relax and enjoy the parent support and discussion time while building a network of friends for your child and family. Separating happens in the 2nd week of class.

2+ Preschool and ECFE (24-36 months by 9/1/2023)

Gradually Separating

Do you want your 2-year-old to have a preschool experience while also gaining the benefits of an ECFE class for yourself? Then join 2+! The schedule for the 2+ classes will allow your two-year-old to easily transition into school while parents get the benefit of connecting with other parents with a focused parent education class time. With the schedule, parents attend both days until Thanksgiving with their child. After Thanksgiving until spring conferences, parents attend the first day of class each week. After spring break until the end of the year, the children attend both days on their own.

Keep technology strong in our schools

Technology levy renewal

Vote November 7, 2023

On November 7, 2023, Wayzata School district residents will be asked to vote on the renewal of technology levy funding.

Vote November 7

7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Find your polling location at mnvotes.org

How is technology used in our schools?

Technology is essential to each and every student. It allows students to learn at their own pace and enables teachers to personalize learning for students.
