ayzata Public Schools Community Education is proud to present the Fall 2011 session of WISHES Youth Enrichment. The WISHES Youth Enrichment program provides elementary students with fun after school enrichment opportunities that are designed to enhance your child’s educational experience, as well as stimulate new interests in hobbies and recreational activities. Please note the location of each class. WISHES classes will meet at multiple locations. Students may attend classes in any building. Transportation is NOT provided. Animal Extravaganza NEW Evening Class! Grades K-5
It is all about animals in this special 3-week session of KidzArt! KidzArt drawing classes are multi-age group. Our teachers simplify for the youngest and expand or challenge the oldest. We will use Prismacolor markers and chalk pastels to draw a horse up-close. We will also learn how to use Art Stix to color a platypus diving deep under water. Chain Maille Basics – Bracelets NEW Parent-Child Class! Age 8 and up with an adult
Not just for suits of armor, chain maille makes exquisite and modern jewelry! Learn how to properly open and close jump rings as you master one of the most basic and versatile chain maille weaves. This chain maille weave is simple and in just a couple of hours you will have an elegant and unique piece of jewelry. Appropriate for youth age 8 and older when accompanied by an adult. Gingerbread House Parent/Child Class 4 years and up with adult
Bring your favorite little elf age 4 and up to decorate a traditional winter cottage. A pre-baked gingerbread house, lots of candy and all of the supplies to assemble and decorate the house are provided. Parent and child (or grandparent and child!) will work on the same project. Is your child loco for Legos? If so, you’ll love this camp! We’ll build a race car then, using paint and collage, create a race track, complete with ramps and jumps, so we can challenge classmates to a race! After we’ll build Lego cities then sculpt planes, cars and trains out of clay to decorate our city. We’ll even make large scale sculptures and imaginary creatures, play Lego games, go on a Lego treasure hunt and more. Who wouldn’t have fun in this awesomely creative camp! Students will not take their Lego creations home, but photographs will be emailed to parents. This is a fun camp where all skill levels are welcome. Yoga Enrichment, a division of Learning Tree Yoga, uses yoga as a pathway to learning. Through movement, literature, art and games, students will have fun while developing mental, physical and emotional wellness. Each class follows a format of Warm-up and Breath exercises, Thematic Yoga Fun, Games, Literature or Art Activity, ending with Relaxation. There is no limit to the amount of smiles and laughter during class and each week students will walk away with a way to use yoga as a means for creating calm in their daily life. No previous yoga experience necessary. The purpose of this class is to teach kids practical knowledge of how to defend themselves against strangers and bullies. This class teaches discipline, self-control, respect and confidence. Students learn escapes and what to do in dangerous situations. Classes are taught by Master Malone who is in the Hall of Fame for teaching Self-Defense. Students will get a free uniform and belt test if they sign up for 3 months. Students will also earn a Self-Defense Medal upon completion of one month of training for hard work and good attendance. Kung Fu Wu Shu Classes – Great Parent/Child Fitness! Kung Fu is more than just kicking, punching, and self-defense. Join us and learn awareness of self and surroundings while improving self-esteem, confidence and, yes, becoming more physically fit. Learn the lifelong benefits of this ancient Chinese art. Destination Imagination Destination ImagiNation is a worldwide creative problem solving competition for kids. Teams of six to seven members work together to use creativity and critical thinking skills to solve challenges without assistance from adults or any other non-team members. Students develop leadership, performing, writing, technical, building and teamwork skills as they develop creative solutions! The team chooses one out of five Team Challenges to solve over a 12–16 week period and then presents their solution at a regional tournament. The team also solves one Instant Challenge at the tournament. Each Team Challenge is designed to be open-ended and solvable in many ways and on many levels. Form a team and register today! Violin and Cello Lessons with MacPhail Center for Music Grades 2-5
Wayzata Public Schools Community Education is pleased to continue our partnership with MacPhail Center for Music to offer quality after-school violin and cello lessons. MacPhail teaching artists will offer small group lessons to students in 2nd and 3rd grade, and private lessons to students in 4th and 5th grade.
