ayzata Public Schools Community Education is proud to present the Winter 2012 session of WISHES Youth Enrichment. The WISHES Youth Enrichment program provides elementary students with fun after school enrichment opportunities that are designed to enhance your child’s educational experience, as well as stimulate new interests in hobbies and recreational activities. Please note the location of each class. WISHES classes will meet at multiple locations. Students may attend classes in any building. Transportation is NOT provided. When registering for a class please note the time to be sure it does not interfere with your child’s school day. Flip this catalog over to see a complete listing of our spring classes. Arts & Crafts Flight of the Imagination Drawing Class Evening Class! Grades K - 5 Mythical worlds, treasures, and castles fill this session of KidzArt! Join us as we explore the world of dragons in lairs, a castle made of candy, and a magnificent knight standing proud. As always we will be using artist grade materials to learn how to draw these whimsical places and more. The KidzArt classroom is a non-competitive environment enhanced by soft music that allows children to focus and enjoy what they are doing. Duct Tape The Adventure Continues Grades K - 5 You requested it, you got it - this class is back by popular demand! Join us as we further explore the world of 3D duct tape sculptures! You will learn how to use flexible wire, grey duct tape, and a variety of other art supplies to form a base for your one-of-a-kind-project. Next, you will apply layers of colorful duct tape to your sculpture and watch it come to life! Your sculpture is sure to become one of your most treasured possessions! The sky is the limit! General & Miscellaneous Babysitting Red Cross Certified MUST BE 11 YEARS OLD OR OLDER This course is essential for any young person interested in babysitting! Students will learn about child development and handling emergencies, including rescue breathing, first aid, preventing accidents, safety, feeding, diapering and more. Leadership and the responsibilities of the babysitter, as well as the expectations of parents and the business of babysitting are also covered. Participants will receive a Red Cross certificate. Students must attend both classes in their entirety to receive certification. Quick Easy Dos for Hot Spring Days! Parent/child class (children 4 & over with adult) Add a twist to your everyday hairdo, or help your daughter get ready for a beautiful, busy day by mastering easy-to-do dos! With the help of expert Great Clips staff, learn and practice easy up-dos, pony tails, French braids and regular braids. This is a fantastic class for dads who help their daughters with their dos! This class requires a buddy, and you will register as an “adult/child pair.” One of you must have shoulder length hair or longer. Recreation Broomball Grades 4 & 5 Join this wonderful opportunity to learn and play this international game! Students will learn the skills of broomball from a world class player‌Ms. Hurwitz! South Indian Cooking Parent/Child Class Grades K - 5 Introduce your kids to the fun and joy of Indian cooking through the classes offered by Exotic Palates!! Whether your child is a keen cook or never touched a saucepan before, they will be inspired by this class! Children and parents are given recipes and guided with hands-on cooking and demos from start to finish. We will explore the unique flavors of South Indian cooking, including Rasam, Adai, Chettinaad Chicken Curry and more. Grandmasters of Chess with Igor Rybakov Grades K-5 - all levels welcome! Get pumped and prepped for the Mar. 24th District tournament with Coach IGOR RYBAKOV. Igor is the 2010 Minnesota Chess Coach of the year! He has coached a National Champion, the Team State Champion (and State 3rd place), the individual State Champion, and more place winners than can be counted here. Horseback Riding Camp with Grand Equestrian Grades K-8 Enjoy the excitement of horseback riding camp! Come ride and learn about horses! Lessons include learning how to work with the horse and learn balance and control in the saddle. In addition, campers get to learn how to groom, tack-up, lead, and do in-hand work with horses. There is also horse crafts, games and other horse related activities such as helping feed, water, and care for horses. Campers get to build friendships with fellow horse loving peers in a structured and positive environment. There is an outdoor and indoor arena. Proper attire includes a sneaker or boot (closed toe with a heel), long pants and layers depending on weather. Please bring a nut-free snack, bagged lunch and plenty of fluids to drink. Kung Fu Classes Great Parent – Child Fitness! Kung Fu is more than just kicking, punching, and self-defense. Join us and learn awareness of self and surroundings while improving self-esteem, confidence and, yes, becoming more physically fit. Learn the lifelong benefits of this ancient Chinese art.
