WAZA Policy – Access to Decade on Biodiversity tools by the Zoo and Aquarium Community Official policy regarding the use of tools created for the WAZA Decade on Biodiversity Project by the Zoo and Aquarium Community. Rationale for limited access: 1. Ownership: The tools created for the WAZA Decade on Biodiversity Project (DoB Project) are created thanks to the support, facilitation and endorsement of WAZA members (as voted for at the 66th WAZA Annual Conference). 2. Initial investment: WAZA has, in support of its members, invested financial and human resources to enable the creation of the content for the WAZA DoB Project. 3. Risk management: The WAZA logo being present on a number of tools, WAZA does not wish to engage directly and officially with non-members where due diligence has not occurred.
Access to content strictly available to WAZA members: The branding of the tools with the logos of both WAZA and the institution implementing the project, are strictly reserved to WAZA members. National and Regional Associations that are members of WAZA may also add their own logo, like any other WAZA member. However, only one logo can be added to each tool. For institutions that are not WAZA members but are members of a National or Regional Association that is itself a member of WAZA, please see below in category (i). The tools which can be used under the above condition include; a. Visuals (posters) with branding b. Films with branding
Access to content to non-WAZA members: Non-WAZA members can be in one of two categories: (i) Institutions which are a member of one or more National or Regional Association, which is itself a member of WAZA. WAZA encourages National and Regional Associations which are members of WAZA to actively promote the DoB Project tools to their members and facilitate their engagement with the project. For this purpose, National and Regional associations may, at their discretion, provide their members (which are not WAZA members themselves) with the various tools branded with the logo of the National or Regional Association. Therefore, these non-WAZA member institutions will not be able to brand the tools with their own logo and will only be able to use them with the

logo of their National or Regional Association, provided the latter has made them available for use by their members. (ii) Institutions which are neither WAZA members nor members of a National or Regional Association which is itself a member of WAZA. No active engagement will be carried out with institutions in category (ii), other than presenting the DoB Project tools as an added-value to WAZA membership. However, in both cases, the following DoB Project tools will remain available, as they are also available to the general public. These include: a. Engagement with the Social Media dialogue (on Facebook and Twitter) b. Availability of the smartphone / tablet application (iphone and Android) c. Any other DoB Project content publically available online In these cases some support may be provided by WAZA to increase engagement and enable the greatest possible outreach for the DoB Project tools.
