Zoo Miami – A Walk on the Wild Side… Press Release September 17, 2013
Rum Bum Film & HD Studios in association with Hof-1 Films are proud to announce the launch of our Kickstarter project, “Zoo Miami - A Walk on the Wild Side”, a full feature documentary featuring Ron Magill of Zoo Miami. We will show Zoo Miami as a world class zoo with an in-depth exploration of the true zoo life and operations beyond any overview produced before. Our documentary was created by Bill Hofmann who partnered with Michael Zoyes to produce this amazing 60 minute film. Ron Magill is the face of Zoo Miami since the early 80”s and is our host. Ron’s passion for the zoo and its animals will be evident as he educates all animal lovers as to the importance and impact world class zoos have on the conservation and protection of all animal species, whether endangered or not. We plan to show how Zoo Miami functions on a daily basis from behind the scenes that the zoo visitor never gets to see. Ron will explain how each zoo department is necessary for the adequate care and support for these beautiful animals that are on display at Zoo Miami. www.kickstarter.com is a crowd funding website and is a new way to fund creative projects for everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. We have created our project in order to raise the necessary funds to produce, “Zoo Miami - A Walk on the Wild Side”, Our project launches on September th 17 , 2013 and will run for 40 days in order to raise the $200,000 plus, needed for filming, editing and distribution of this independent production. Ron Magill Host
Ron Magill is the Director of Media Communications at Zoo Miami. Ron has worked with wildlife for over 30 years and has had the privilege of having “hands-on” experience with a tremendous variety of animals. As Zoo Miami’s “Goodwill Ambassador”, he has made frequent television appearances on many programs including, “National Geographic Explorer”, the Discovery Networks, the “Today Show”, “The Late Show with David Letterman”, “CBS’ This Morning”, “Dateline” and “CNN”. Ron is also a regular guest on several Spanish language television programs including international hits “Sabado Gigante” and “Despierta America”. In addition, he has written and produced many wildlife articles and award-winning photographs that have appeared in publications and galleries around the world. He has traveled extensively throughout Africa, India and Tropical America while developing and directing conservation projects and Emmy Award winning documentaries focusing on the wildlife of those regions.
Bill Hofmann
Executive Producer / Director Bill Hofmann owns Hof-1 Films and has been an animal lover and activist all of his life. Bill grew up in Miami and has been a supporter of the zoo in Miami since he first visited Crandon Zoo in the early seventies. He attended the same high school at the same time as Ron Magill so it was a natural fit to create a documentary on Zoo Miami. Hof-1 partnered with Rum Bum in order to bring the excellence needed to produce an award winning documentary. Bill is no stranger to television production as he produced and directed “Florida on Wheels TV”, a series which featured exotic cars, aftermarket companies and automotive events in Florida, which aired on The CW in South Florida. He also produced
“Inside the Orange Bowl” in 2012 for The Orange Bowl Committee that aired on Fox Sun Sports in Florida. He also produced and directed many commercials and numerous private and corporate videos.
Michael Zoyes
Producer / Director of Photography Michael Zoyes was born in Detroit Michigan and moved to South Florida when he was 4 years old. Growing up in South Florida Michael quickly became a nature and underwater enthusiast. Michael attended The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale and discovered his love for cinematography. After graduating in 2000 he went to work for Native Films as a commercial producer creating high-end national commercials. Michael also worked for Miami Music Channel A3TV directing and shooting concerts, music videos, and reality content that established A3TV’s brand. Over the years he was able to work with many high-end cinematographers and learned various styles and techniques from each of them. As the years past by at Native Films Michael continued shooting as a commercial cinematographer filming for clients such as DHL, Phillips and Universal Records, creating documentaries, music videos, and feature films. He then moved to E*TRADE’s social networking site MONEYANDLIVING.com where he was the senior creative producer and created over 500 webisodes and mastered the business of viral videos. In 2007 Michael left Native Films to join Luis Bacardi’s RUM BUM FILM & HD STUDIOS as a producer of in house content. Since then Michael helped produce films, commercials, music videos, documentaries and continues perfecting his craft today.
Ken Wiley
Original Music Score We are very pleased that Ken Wiley has agreed to write and compose all of our music for us. Ken Wiley is a French horn player, composer and producer with a long and varied musical career. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, Wiley has logged some impressive credits, including appearances with bassist Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra including the Playboy Jazz Festival and the Charlie Rouse Quintet. Ken is no stranger to critical praise. His first album, Visage (on the Passport Jazz label) was picked as "Album of the Week" by Billboard and Cashbox magazines. Highbridge Park is Wiley's first release on the Krug Park Music label. He composed music for the short film, “The Doctor In Spite of Himself”, the docudrama, “Budo Warrior”, “Rachel Hunter-The Making of a Calendar” and the TV series “Florida on Wheels TV”. He currently performs with the Pasadena Symphony, soundtracks for “Family Guy”, “The Cleveland Show” and “American Dad”.
