What is a turducken you might ask… well it’s a chicken stuffed inside a duck which is then stuffed inside a turkey of course. Braised, roasted, grilled, or barbecued this birdfest is making its way into American culture. The turducken was first popularized by John Madden when he was a sportscaster on CBS when he cut into it on the air. This unique dish is fast becoming a Thanksgiving favorite because every slice has a portion of each meat with stuffing in between. Originally starting in Lousiana this new tradition has spread to the rest of the south. Thanks John Madden we owe ya one!
Party Hard, Party like a Rockstar

All you have to do is take a picture with the poster available on page 12 (or bobcatfans. com/rockstar) and post it to the BobcatFans Facebook page! Funnyman Conan Obrien Reigns King In Late Night. Conan O’brien, host of the debut episode of his late-night show “Conan,” raked in approximately 4.1 million viewers according to Forbes.com. Let go by former network NBC, Conan and Co-host Andy Richter got to bask in the glory of their triumphant return to the vicious late-night rumble for ratings. His opening line: “Welcome to my 2nd annual first show!” And he blasts NBC by saying, “… and I’m on a channel that doesn’t have a lot of money and that viewers have a hard time finding: And that’s why I left NBC.”
Alas, the annual male ritual known as “No-Shave November” is upon us. It’s a time when men join together in friendly competition to see who can grow the best beard in the land. Who’s ready for a trip to Hawaii every other year? You’re in luck because Texas State was invited to become a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Karl Benson, WAC Commissioner, made the announcement on Nov. 11th through a teleconfernce with media members. When the WAC invitation became a reality it marked a milestone in the rich history of Texas State University and the beginning of a new chapter. Division I-FBS football is upon us and the students, fans and alumni support is needed more now then ever. The Drive to FBS now has a full tank of gas but you can’t take a car to Hawaii.

UTSA thinking about going orange Jb4g: Its not real, not gonna happen, and yes its ugly! TXST: Spkenney, spill the beans man! I think they are moving the practices to Bobcat stadium to get used to the new turf/field. Don’t know the times yet Spkenney: This is someones idea of photoshop humor. The thing that makes Boise State interesting isn’t the fact that they have a blue field but that they were the FIRST to do such a thing. It helps make them unique and memorable. Anyone else that does it, IMHO, looks like a joke RiverRatCat06: It is nice to have a UTSA fan that will contribute to the thread when they post. For the past year or so we have been getting a lot of the students that are on academic probation at your university. Seaney: We just got rid of the smurf turf! THIS MOCK UP IS AWFUL! I think Orange Turf is a deal breaker for WAC membership.

Thought: This Todd Phillips (The Hangover) picture should be hilarious. Despite it’s clichéd premise, Phillips has never been one to stick to the formula and always takes things to the next level and I anticipate another hit especially with the cast he’s got lined up.
Thought: Tony Scott directs this action thriller and it should be a decent ride, pardon the pun. Scott has a history of making action movies that also have depth as with Man On Fire. Look for this movie to be effective on a more cerebral level than most action movies.
Thought: A charming Viagra salesman, Gyllenhaal, lives a carefree life full of riches and women until he meets his match and his world is flipped upside down. This movie is said to have a perfect mix of comedy, serious drama and an emotional love story.
Thought: Christina Aguilera plays a small town girl that leaves her small town to fight for her place in a neoburlesque club in Los Angeles. Look for this movie to be filled with performances from both artists. This should be interesting to see how two divas can share the screen.

Tech Kwon-Do USB LED Beverage Cooler: This is a USB party waiting to happen. Grab a sixer of your favorite beverage, adult or otherwise, and do some studying in the library. Park yourself at a table with an attractive member of the opposite sex, plug it into your computer, and commence beverage dispensing. Coupled with the Loading…Please Wait T-shirt, you’re guaranteed to have a two person party, and that can be the best kind. ($19.99)
Wine Chicken Griller: This being Texas, grilling is taken very seriously. Texans have killed over super secret family recipes. Well, at least someone has thought about it. With the Wine Chicken Griller, you can create your own family recipe. The Griller enables you to get the flavor of your favorite beer or wine into your favorite bird. Add a few vegetables and you have a meal that will compliment your drink perfectly. Remember, it is an open flame, so no Everclear please. ($19.95)
Asahi Beerbot: When I lived in Japan, I used to drink Asahi beer a lot. Now that I’m back in the States, I drink it when I’m feeling nostalgic. But if I had a robot that poured my beer for me, I might drink it more often. The Asahi Beerbot can store up to 6 cans, has a programmable voice, and a child lock that will hopefully keep out your roommate. No counter space? Hell, this should be going into your bedroom.
($800)
Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller:
Loading…
This is something everyone can use. It can chill a can in 1 minute and a bottle of wine in 6 minutes. Sometimes I’ll buy beer in a “make your own six-pack” and the beer won’t be refrigerated. I get home and have to wait for the freezer to cool it down. No longer! This Rapid Beverage Chiller will have my beer cold before I can get the chips and dip opened. ($40)
You woke up late for class, you forgot to print out your notes, you have to jump into your clothes, and you have 3 classes back-to-back. You know that feeling and this is just the shirt for those days. This shirt says, “I’m having a bad day and the thought of a beer is the only thing keeping me going.” This would be a perfect match for the USB LED Beverage Cooler. ($15.99)
Whiskey Stones There is nothing I hate more than getting water in my Jameson. You know that taste, when you take a sip and it’s half water. Now I can have my whiskey on the rocks, literally, and not worry about it getting watered down. Toss these stones in the freezer and when you need some of that liquid wonderfulness, they’ll be ready to chill your drink. No, they’re not blender friendly genius.

Popdrive Bottle Opener with Thumb Drive, 1GB OK, by a show of hands, who has a USB thumb drive and a bottle opener on their keychain? That’s what I thought. Any self respecting college student must be ready for class and a party at the same time. The Popdrive helps consolidate those two essentials. 1GB is plenty of space for research papers and being able to open a pop top bottle at a moment’s notice is exactly what a student needs. Oh, put your hands down now.

Lights & Laughter: Sights & Sounds
turns 24 Lights twinkle to the sound of giggling as people spin under a magnificent tree made of incandescent bulbs. The smell of fresh made biscuits linger as the children’s choir sings jubilantly into the night. Simply put, there is no better place to be Dec. 1-4 than San Marcos during the Sights & Sounds of Christmas Festival at San Marcos Park Plaza. Take a stroll underneath a canopy of twinkling lights with loved ones or take that special someone on a walk they’ll never forget. You can duck into a shop or two for a little holiday shopping then take a break at one of the many food vendors for excellent festival food. You may even get treated to a little snow (artificial of course!) Sights & Sounds, as the locals like to call it, has been a tradition in San Marcos for 24 years and gets more popular as time passes. It’s the biggest Christmas festival in all of Hays County and boasted 25,000 in attendance last year. But with so much to do at Sights & Sounds, you must make a plan. Here is the official BobcatFans strategy: Start your night off at the coffee pot with a nice chi tea then head out to the park. If parking is an issue, there will be a shuttle that picks up at Strahan and runs every quarter hour. Enjoy the festivities, listen to children sign the classic Christmas carols, buy a few munchies, do some shopping for the family, and then head out to the square for a night cap. Don’t forget to get a safe ride home.

San Marvelous’ transformation into a winter wonderland wouldn’t be complete without a scheduled visit from St. Nick. This year Santa is trading in his sled for a helicopter and landing on the outskirts of the Sights & Sounds nativity scene, Little Bethlehem. Oh and he’s taking facebook photos too! Be sure to stop by: The Tree of Lights and Little Bethlehem. In a consumer society its worth stopping by and reflecting on meaning of life. Parking: Free parking and shuttles will be available for Sights & Sounds from Texas State University’s Strahan Coliseum. The shuttle will run every 15 minutes from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Taste of San Marcos
Man Vs
Panhandler
A 7 Pound Opponent
History
Panhandler Pizza opened their San Marcos location just this June. Choosing to differentiate themselves by offering both high quality and large quantities Panhandlers’ focus is on delivering the bang for your buck. Specializing in calzones, pizza rolls, wings, oven baked sandwiches and an all day pizza buffet piled high with toppings, they are sure to exceed your expectations. The 50-item salad bar can be a meal in itself. From eggs to watermelon to sunflower seeds – you name it I bet they have it. As for beverages, you have a wide selection of 19 beers served both bottled and draft. With choices like butter pecan with caramel sauce, carrot cake, chocolate fudge and Sherri cake (made with John’s grandmother’s recipe) don’t forget to save room for dessert.
7 lba Pizz
My Meal
Atmosphere When you walk into Panhandlers the friendly staff and the wonderful smell of fresh pizza immediately greet you. You can’t help but notice the 8 mounted flat screens, plus your very own personal screen at every booth. Whether is be football, UFC, Jersey Shore or Glee, you can watch your favorite show though out dinner. On this particular day, JB Gutierrez was trying his luck at the 7 Pounder Challenge. This entails eating a 7-pound pizza within just one hour for a prize of $250. JB tried his best but was only able to put down 1/3 of the pizza. Last week, Panhandlers held its first Texas State Football watch party. With a house full of Bobcats, three-dollar pitchers and an all day buffet what’s not to love?
When I arrived I was presented with six of their most popular pizzas and I have to say they were all spectacular. Every one is made with their quality and quantity standard in mind. My personal favorite was the Carene Guisada pizza. Made in house, the beef takes 3 ½ hours to prepare – now that’s dedication! My second runner up, Macaroni and Cheese, taste like one of mom’s home cooked meal just on a pizza. The Sherri cake had just the right amount of sweetness and served as the perfect end to a great meal!
Specialty Pizzas This isn’t your average pizza joint. The signature pizza is The Panhandler. Loaded with pepperoni, beef, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers and onions. They even offer pizzas that you would never even think of such as, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Carne Guisada, Buffalo Chicken, Mac N Cheese, BBQ Chicken and the Chicken Alfredo. These pizzas were invented by John Evans, the Operations Manager, and then put on the menu for the rest of the world’s taste buds to enjoy. With John’s culinary background he is continuously looking for new and different offerings, so you never know when a new pizza might come out. The newest creation in the making is a combination of peanut butter and jalapeños. I know it seems weird but I’ve been told it’s better than it sounds.

2: Use Body Weight and Resistance Band Exercises That You Can Do Anywhere All you’ll need is your body and one resistance band to get the job done. During maintenance weeks for our clients, we highly recommend using mostly body weight based exercises with the exception of some resistance band exercises to get that pulling component in since it is often very difficult to access body weight rows and pull-ups when getting ready to go out.
3:Don’t Worry About Being Perfect All of the Time
My boot campers train with me for 4-6 weeks at a time with short 1-week transition periods throughout the year. In total, they are in full boot camp mode for 45 out of the 52 weeks each year. We try to instill perfection during those 45 weeks that we are together in camps to allow for the desired flexibility during the 7 weeks that we are not. In other words, our clients move to maintenance mode during off weeks allotting themselves 1-2 free meals per week, performing a few short maintenance workouts each week, and focusing more on improving flexibility and tissue quality. This works great because typically our scheduled off weeks fall in line with traditional vacation times and/or holidays.

San Marcos Boot Camp Reveals the
Tips to Enjoy
College Night Life
As someone who has struggled with my weight my whole life, I have come to realize that my college days were the most damaging to my waist line. In all of my failures, I have truly gained a lot of perspective regarding what it takes to enjoy the college night life. So, I am going to share my top 5 fitness tips to help you maintain your overall health, performance, and body composition while enjoying the local college night life:
1: Perform Short 10-20 Minute Maintenance Workouts First Thing In The Morning Before Your Night Out Time is not an excuse. We all have at least 10-20 minutes to dig deep before we start our day. Trust me on this- this brief workout first thing in the morning will set the tone for the rest of your day. Besides being your energy pill to attack the day with vigor, this workout can serve as some damage control if you to decide to indulge in some foods that deviate from your nutrition plan. But they key is to do it first thing in the morning because I personally guarantee you that’s the only time you can count on getting it done when enjoying the sights and sounds of college night life.
4:Limit Alcohol and Empty Liquid Calories
This is always the hardest tip to sell because of how indispensable alcohol can be for some people who want to have a good time and wind down during their college days. The reality is alcohol not only stops fat burning in its tracks, but it actually promotes fat storage. Many alcoholic drinks contain high calorie sugary mixes that further tip the proverbial scale in the wrong direction. Consuming 2-3 alcoholic beverages per day could easily result in an extra 500 calories per night out that would in theory result in at least one pound of fat gained in a week’s time just from booze alone. If you must, try to limit alcohol consumption to 1 drink at most per day and at best 1-2 drinks (or ideally less) per week while enjoying college night life.
5: Build Your Own Pre-Celebration Workouts for Fun Let’s face it- working out with intensity can get old real fast! So, if you are in it to be fit for the long run, you better find a way to mix things up as often as possible with your workouts to keep yourself motivated. Living in San Marcos, close to the river allows for all of this and more as you can typically access a host of unique training locations and equipment! Alternate between intervals of sprints and body weight strength exercises or do a playground style workout using benches, monkey bars, etc. in a local park so that you can burn fat and get some Vitamin D in at the same time. Let your mind wander and most importantly have fun deviating from the typical structure of your normal workouts!

Tyler
Arndt
Football season is officially coming to a close and the ‘Cats season has been full of ups and downs. Part of the success of this year’s team has been due to a guy who spent half the season playing under center. Tyler Arndt assumed the starting role in only the second game of the season and came out leading this Bobcat team firing on all cylinders. It is due to this success that Arndt is our Player of the Month pick. Arndt is a true freshman recruited out of Cuero High School. Before committing to Texas State, ESPN had named Arndt one of the top 32 quarterbacks in the country. While playing for Cuero, Arndt accumulated 7100 yards and 75 touchdowns, as well as a 36-5 record, including a 13-1 record his senior year. Since coming to Texas State Arndt has so far passed for 1364 yards, thrown 9 touchdowns and managed a passer efficiency rating of 123.06. He also rushed for an additional 5 touchdowns including two against Southern Arkansas. He had started to gain an early understanding of the offense and looked poised to keep Texas State playing at a high level all season. That was until a knee injury (torn ACL) took him out for the remainder of the season in front of the home crowd at Wacker Field. The Bobcats will finish conference play and the 2010 season without Ardnt. Look for him to rise to the occasion in the off season, recover from his injury, and challenge himself to regain the role as starting quarterback at Texas State University.
