VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY Unperturbed by all the sounds and movements around me, I excitedly peer through the leaves of a large monstera and find myself looking at a plant that I’ve never seen before. Cautiously, I try to get closer. It turns out that I’ve just discovered a Dischidia nummularifolia! Where am I? At the Trade Fair Aalsmeer, where there was an incredible amount to discover. Our photo report starts on page 18. Also in this issue, read the article on Smit Kwekerijen about a real plant hunter who has searched some of the Earth’s most remote corners, and used his knowledge to launch a well-known brand of indoor plants. Returning to the trade fair, it was a really inspiring event and an incredible experience. Just what the exhibitors were aiming for of course, and they got it absolutely right. The perfect atmosphere was created to really show off the products at their best and enhance all the unique properties of the beautiful plants on display. Is that something that would also work at the retailer? The Bella Fuchsia® is an example of a product which could pull it off. A visit to the breeder gave us all the right tips. Read about this and much more in Javado Magazine No. 5! Gerson Aalbrecht Marketing Manager

Up to date Green Roofs with Sedum Trays Sedum trays are a really quick way to create a green roof.

Javado Staff Successful Twelve colleagues have managed to significantly increase their garden plant expertise by following the Flower Academy garden plant course. The exam was held in November, and everyone passed!

Using these trays to add greenery to the urban fabric has become incredibly popular. Green roofs are beneficial in lots of respects, such as absorbing rainwater, purifying air, increasing biodiversity, and insulating buildings, On page 14, read how you can help your customers with a top-quality green roof. Are you unable to choose? What make the Agapanthus Summer Love White® and the Summer Love Blue® really stand out are their long, fresh green leaves and beautiful flowers on sturdy stems. This upgrade for the terrace is now also available as a duo plant.

A pot you can plant You might think this pot is made of hard plastic when you hold it, but nothing is further from the truth. POTBURRI pots are in fact made from the shells of sunflower seeds and are 100% biodegradable. That makes them ideal for both the consumer and our planet, as you can simply place the pot and plant in the soil together. Grower FN Kempen brought the POTBURRI to the Netherlands. As yet, no plants are being grown in them for the day trade. Suitable plants can be grown in these pots, in consultation with exporters and retailers. Other growers can also join this project. More info at www.potburri.de 4 Javado magazine

Greenovation Award 2019 for Bulb-In-Pot Concept This year, the Greenovation Award was won by grower JH Van der Vossen. This is the third occasion that Royal FloraHolland has presented this prize for the best sustainable innovation. The bulb grower developed a sustainable packaging line which allows its range to be traded without using any plastic. The range can be found at Javado’s webshop: type ‘bio pot’ in the search field.

Five Indoor Plants on the Test Bench We’re currently testing five types of popular indoor plants in 12-cm pots, namely 2 plants of each species. One plant of each species is not being watered for 5 weeks but does get enough light. The other plant of each species gets too little light for 5 weeks but is watered enough.

International Garden Center Congress

The IGCA (International Garden Centre Association) is an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to improving garden centres around the globe. Every year, the IGCA organises an extensive study trip around a different specific country. This year, the special event took place in the United Kingdom in September, and Javado was present! It’s 6 in the morning when Michel (Javado UK sales) wakes up at the Windsor Castle Hotel. After a warm welcome the previous evening, the IGCC will really get going today. The programme for the week is impressive, and includes special excursions in and around London, some fascinating presentations, and above all visits to lots of beautiful garden centres. The 5 coaches waiting behind the hotel are ready to receive guests at 7 a.m., and bring everybody back at around 11 p.m. This is the pattern that will be repeated throughout the week; a packed programme, and everything arranged down to the very last detail. On his return to the Netherlands, we spoke to Michel about his experience. What is your general impression of this congress? I’m really enthusiastic. I travelled intensively with a large group of people, and we all had the same goals. The visits were really useful and instructive, and we all got to know each other well in a relaxed atmosphere. My knowledge about the industry was given a huge boost, and it was an opportunity to raise the level of my network considerably. Who was in your group? It was a great group of colleagues who were really passionate about garden centres. There were lots of garden centre owners from a wide range of countries. The leading suppliers were also represented, from garden centre builders and designers to suppliers of pottery and software developers. Can you describe a typical day? Everything is centred around the coach. On the way, an expert would

8 Javado magazine

speak about the next garden centre on the agenda. On arrival at the garden centre, the staff would be waiting to welcome us. After a thorough and extensive visit, we would jointly evaluate this garden centre on the coach, which you learn an incredible amount from. Then we would continue our trip with an interesting excursion. Thanks to this mix of activities, everyone had a good time, the atmosphere was relaxed, and we all got to know each other well. At the end of the day, when everybody’s seen and learned a lot, we would all go to bed tired and satisfied. “Everyone at the congress has the same objective: working together to create the best possible experience for customers in garden centres, and develop a retail environment we can be proud of.”

What was your highlight of the week? Well, that’s a difficult one. The gala dinner at the end was unique, and I enjoyed the excursions in London, but for me the highlight was the visit to Kew Gardens. I’d never visited it before, and it’s incredibly beautiful. A must for garden centre lovers. Finally, can you recommend this congress? Absolutely! I met new customers here, and I also made some interesting contacts. Cooperation is important and so much easier when you get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. I can therefore thoroughly recommend it, especially for garden centre owners and buyers.

Grower report

Smit Kwekerijen

Obed Smit

The trendy plants in the Eden Collection are indispensable for lots of garden centres. Smit Kwekerijen, the founder of this collection, is therefore a leading grower, with whom we enjoy a lot of positive cooperation. However, we don’t visit the nursery very often, because it’s located in the rural northeast of the Netherlands, far from the busy southwest where we have our headquarters. It turned out to be well worth the long drive, because I discovered a whole new plant world. Obed Smit, can you tell us a little about yourself and the nursery? Back in 1985, I started working in my granddad’s greenhouses to see if I’d inherited his green fingers. It turned out that I was a man of my times, because I grew Geraniums that were in great demand. After a spell growing Fuchsias and Chrysanthemums, everything changed when I met ‘plant hunter’ Lammert Koning. He travelled worldwide in search of special plants. The idea fascinated me immediately, and together we visited places around the globe where plants had never been searched for before. That was the start of the Eden Collection. What exactly is the Eden Collection? My objective is to create beautiful plants that feel at home in the living room. I started to build my own living database based on my finds from all over the world, and hired a breeder. We went to work in a large greenhouse full of special plant genes. We studied the varieties resilient enough to be grown commercially as houseplants, what happened if we cross-bred different species, and the best way to propagate the plants for cultivation, among other things. We experimented a lot, and we achieved a lot. “There are still an unlimited number of interesting species waiting to be discovered and developed. I really love my work.” We walk through breeder Carla’s domain: the test greenhouses where hundreds of plant species are growing, and where Obed points out a very beautiful leaf begonia. I found this Begonia in Vietnam. It looks like the Iron Cross begonia, but it’s a bit more robust and has attractive dark brown edges to its leaves. In recent years, jungle-like plants with large, unusual leaves have become 16 Javado magazine

very popular. We’re working very hard in this area, one example being the Philodendron Hastatum we placed on the market, but there are lots of other interesting projects underway. These plants are bigger than the compact plants in the Eden Collection. We’re supplying them with a larger label under the brand name ‘Eden Jungle’. What, in your opinion, is your best find? Senecio cephalophorus, also known as ‘Mountain Fire’. which I found in a desert in Israel. This plant has an unusual grey colour, an excellent shape, and it’s extremely resilient. It’s really satisfying to see how well this plant has sold over the years. That brings us to the greenhouse complexes for commercial cultivation. Ultimately, the plants in the collection have to actually be sold in garden centres. We control the breeding of our species ourselves at our nurseries in Africa, Indonesia and Guatemala. Here in the Netherlands, we plant cuttings and grow the plants. I love full-bodied plants, so we plant a lot of cuttings in each pot. The company is proud of its range, and we obviously only want perfect plants to be offered at the point of sale. What’s your relationship with Javado? It feels like we’ve been cooperating for a long time. We work together at trade fairs and share information. That benefits us greatly, and we’re more than happy to give something in return. Our range is fully adapted to the ins and outs of Javado’s day trade, and Javado is at the top of the list if we have novelties. How do you see the future of Smit Kwekerijen? Our company is continually progressing, and the keyword is growth. That doesn’t just mean growth in terms of quantity, It’s above all about growth in quality. We’re more and more concerned with operating sustainably. Our rural environment is a blessing in this respect, because we have space for this kind of growth. For example, I’m investigating whether we can store heat with heat panels. The other thing I’ve never stopped doing is discovering wonderful plants, and at the end of the day that is what keeps our nursery going.

Specials Some plants not included in the Eden Collection are worthy of a separate mention. These plants, which have their own labels and design, include Pilea peperomioides (Chinese Money plant), Senecio peregrinus (Jumping Dolphin) and Begonia maculata (Polkadots).

The emergence of a strong brand Smit Kwekerijen was already at the forefront back in the 1990s, when every species was given its own brand name and every plant its own label. Although they might have been declared mad at the time, it did bear fruit, as the plants clearly formed a collection. The only thing the company had to do was to consistently deliver top quality so that the collection could become a strong brand.

Discover the world, bring Eden Collection into your home This is the official motto of Smit Kwekerijen. Their plants hail from around the world. It’s really special to enjoy a begonia from Vietnam or a peperomia from Bolivia in the home!

If you’d like to order something from Smit’s range now, go to the web shop and filter for: Smit Eden Collection under grower groups

These days, the brown labels on wooden sticks are immediately recognisable. These products are known as highly decorative and resilient indoor plants.

For Obed, Senecio cephalophorus symbolises his search for beautiful indoor plants.

You can increase the visibility of the Eden Collection by dressing your garden centre display with Eden Collection POS material. If you’d like to find out more, please contact us. A view of the commercial greenhouses

Tips from the grower People initially think of watering when it comes to caring for indoor plants, but plants also need nutrition. Our plants can survive a very long time in a living room, but if they’re only given water they will really suffer. It would therefore be great if garden centres let consumers know this, and show how easy it is to mix a cap of liquid plant food into the watering can every 2 weeks. There’s almost too much to take in inside the greenhouses where hundreds of varieties of plants are brd and tested Javado magazine 17

Spotted at Trade Fair Aalsmeer

Trade Fair Aalsmeer is a feast for the eye, with a wealth of plants and other products to enjoy and discover spread over three halls. It’s all built on the efforts of the hundreds of growers and breeders who do everything they can to make this fair a success. The suppliers of pottery and decorative items make the event complete. We’d like to give you our impression. When looking back at all the photos we took, we identified a number of themes: Sustainable, Urban Jungle, Colour Explosion, Instagrammable, and Tranquility.

Urban Jungle The exhibition halls resembled a jungle, with all the old favourites and a number of new jungle plants. Visitors to the trade fair could almost take on the role of ‘plant hunter’ and discover lots of wonderful products.

Sustainable The theme of sustainability was widely represented, and literally everywhere you looked. Eco-friendly production and packaging is the biggest challenge currently being faced.

Colour Explosion A number of exhibitors were clearly unafraid of making a splash with a real explosion of colours. Their stands attracted big crowds.

Tranquility This theme, which is all about calm colours, transparency and a sense of well-being, was well represented by the dried flower hype.

Cambria Irish Mist Instagrammable Instagram is one of the reasons behind the success of Urban Jungle. Consumers turn to Instagram for inspiration and are always looking for something to buy that they can show off online. There was no shortage of special Instagrammable products.

Primula elatior ‘Gold Nugget’ Why do I want to highlight this cheerful range of primulas? In the first place, they’re extremely hardy, secondly, their colours are sensational, and thirdly, they grow and flower uniformly. Last but not least, simply because I like primulas in the garden. They are some of the first plants to bloom in early spring, before the trees have even come into leaf. We supply these primulas in five colours: purple, red, white, yellow and pink. Mixed trays can also be ordered.

Different types and pot sizes can be found in our web shop 1/01/20 - 23/3/20

Rhododendron ‘Red Devil’ The Rhododendron Hortinno garden ‘Red Devil’ in the Rhododendron range deserves a special mention. The first thing you notice are the large flower heads which turn into big clusters of flowers. The intense red of the flowers is equally striking, while the black hearts give the flowers extra depth. Obviously this beautiful plant is ideal for the border and because of its compact growth it’s also very suitable for containers on the patio. The Red Devil is hardy, coming into colour from March and flowering from April. In my opinion, it’s a real showstopper in garden centres in March!

Hydrangea ‘Runaway Bride’ I’d like to tell you some more about this special hydrangea. It’s an intraspecific hybrid, meaning a cross between different subspecies within the same genus. The result is a special hydrangea that both blooms at the end of the stem and produces flower buds from every branch. The side buds produce 2 or 3 leaf pairs, followed by the flower buds. This pattern of flowering is unique among hydrangeas and is what makes this plant so decorative. Sometimes, I call this plant the garland hydrangea. An unusual innovation like this also opens up a whole new world of possibilities. How about planting it in a raised border, and letting the graceful branches grow over the edge?

Botany

The best plant families in the world

Sansevieria Sansevieria is a plant genus originating from Africa and South Asia. Although Sansevieria is in our green houseplant range, it is in fact a genus of flowering plants. The flowers, which tend to be greenish-white and attached to a cluster, form orange or red berries as fruit. In the plant’s natural environment, the flowers are pollinated by moths. The leaves have various shapes. The best-known variety is the S. trifasciata, known popularly as mother-in-law’s tongue because of its wide, elongated leaves with sharp spikes. Care All the varieties sold as ornamental plants are very resilient houseplants, and can be placed either in the shade or direct sunlight. They need very little care. Just be careful not to water them excessively, as this will cause the roots to rot. Air purification Did you know Sansevieria purifies air in an unusual way? This has everything to do with the arid native conditions. The stomata remain closed during the day, to prevent evaporation of the scarce water available and allow the plant to survive the hot conditions. Air is purified at night, making the Sansevieria an excellent plant for the bedroom. Are you already acquainted with the range of varieties of this incredibly resilient houseplant?

Grower report

Leon Boers

Boers Tuinbouw

Gerrit Boers

Boers Tuinbouw is located right next to the beach on the North Sea coast. It’s always been a pleasure ordering bedding plants from this breeder, and now I’m paying a visit to find out more about its history. Gerrit Boers and his son Leon are about to show me around the entire company, but first we sit down for a chat over a cup of coffee. How did Boers Tuinbouw come into being? My brother and I started a horticultural business back in 1983. In the beginning we grew radishes, but soon branched out to include cut flowers. My neighbour then introduced me to cyclamen cultivation. However, growing radish and cyclamen simultaneously proved a bad idea, as they both require work at the same peak times. We eventually decided to abandon radishes, and combine cyclamen with bedding plants. Since then, my brother has stopped working in the company, and my son Leon has joined. How would you describe your company? We’re a proper family business, built around a small team, and great believers in the importance of training young people in the horticulture trade. In some ways, we’re like Ajax football club: we’ve got a great youth training scheme, after which the talents migrate to the larger market players. We’re passionate about quality, and creating the best products on the market is what really drives us. Our unique location helps in this respect. How does it help? As you can see, we’re right on the coast, so subject to a maritime climate. The sea evens out the weather, so it never gets really cold in the winter or really hot in the summer. The other benefit is the salty sea air which drives insects away, and means we have fewer problems with bugs. There is more light here and less evaporation thanks to the mild temperatures, which means less watering is required. As a result, the plants naturally grow in more compact shapes. There are lots of varieties and brands of bedding plants. How do you decide what to grow? We get a good overview of all the basic material available at the Flowertrials®. However, we look beyond catchy brand names. Bedding plants have to make consumers happy, as they literally bring colour into their lives. Bedding plants have to continue growing and flowering well 26 Javado magazine

into the autumn, that’s what consumers really enjoy, so we select species that ensure this satisfaction. We have a simple method for finding out what’s best; we test plants ourselves! That means I first test species at our campsite, before they can join our range. The excellent flowering of petunia Nightsky, for example, surprised me. Petunia Babydoll, on the other hand, did not impress me, so no matter how beautiful the flower might be, we’re not going to grow this species. “At the campsite, I test the ability of a species to continue to thrive. Only plants which flower for a long time are allowed in our greenhouse!” How’s the relationship with Javado? We enjoy a great relationship based on mutual respect. Some traders put you under pressure to cut a couple of cents off the price, and if they find someone else even cheaper, they disappear from the scene. I’m not interested in that kind of customer, but fortunately Javado doesn’t act in this way. What are your plans for the future? We’re working very hard on measures to make cultivation sustainable. The demand is coming from the market, but we’re also happy to play our part anyway, as we believe it’s logical and important. We recycle all our water during cultivation, and also provide a large part of our own energy by generating green electricity with solar panels. Our pots are made from recycled plastic, and can be fully recycled again. Basically, we’re a dynamic family business. We’ve been supplying quality products with a long shelf life for generations. Alongside sustainability and delivery reliability, these are our core values.

Every flower a miniature universe The NightSky® has won many awards and is highly appreciated by growers, retailers and consumers. The Sky family is growing, slowly but surely.

This year, the standard range of Osteospermum will be supplied in this pot made of recycled plastic

Lots of species are tested at his holiday home on the campsite in the east of the Netherlands

Fall in love with this dianthus Last year, Boers Tuinbouw introduced the Dianthus Early Love. This beautiful, uniform product was in great demand in the trade, so it will be included in the range again next season. • • • •

Compact plant with a bouquet filled with flowers Already attractive early in the year Maintains its beauty for a long time Also resilient indoors

The success of Purple Sun Osteospermum Purple Sun is undoubtedly one of the best novelties from last year’s magazine. Boers-Tuinbouw has once again prepared a nice batch for next season.

Tips from the grower The secret of getting your bedding plants to flower longer all starts with putting the right plant in the right place. Some species can handle direct sunlight, others prefer shade. Don’t allow bedding plants to dry out, and remove any flowers past their best. After a few weeks, the buffer feed given by the grower will be exhausted, so fertilising really makes a difference. Javado magazine 27

Grower report

F.N. Kempen

Tieme van den Haak

Tieme van den Haak is my host at nursery F.N. Kempen. It’s winter, and things are still fairly quiet at the nursery. We sit down for an interesting chat about sustainability, trends in garden plants, and developments at garden centres. I’m also shown some very special developments at this grower. Tell us a little about the F.N Kempen nursery. We supply inspiring, visually attractive garden plants, that are identified by our stylish black labels so that customers know who grew them. Species we’re known for include Lavender, Lithodora, Echinacea and Dianthus (as a perennial). Our range is much wider than this, however, and is designed so we can supply visually attractive plants throughout the year. Sustainability and novelties are other important aspects for us. Basically, our objective is to be the ideal garden plant partner for the green retail trade. What does it take to give garden centres perfect service? A perennial doesn’t look very attractive at the start of its annual cycle. However, when the leaves are healthy and fresh once more and the flowers appear, it suddenly becomes a highly desirable product. We release our plants when they’re looking attractive, and don’t supply any plants that aren’t ready for retail. This works out very well and means we can enjoy healthy turnover. Another of our objectives is sustainability. We use as few pesticides as possible when we cultivate our plants, so this is something garden centres don’t have to worry about. Most of our plants attract bees and butterflies, so consumers can relax in the knowledge that they’re helping biodiversity by planting our flowering plants. We also monitor gardening trends closely and adapt our range accordingly. Are there any trends in garden plants at the moment? Absolutely! Reflecting the Urban Jungle trend, we’ve noticed that garden plants which are highly ornamental thanks to their special leaves have become very popular, examples being Euphorbia, Heuchera, Bergenia and Sedum. Another trend is the demand for plants that can withstand extreme weather conditions. Our garden cactus concept ‘Rock your Gar38 Javado magazine

den’ is a good example of what consumers are looking for at the moment. Another is a special novelty which we’ll be launching soon: the Mangave! How do you manage to keep coming up with special concepts and novelties? We’re an open and transparent company and enjoy talking with all kinds of enthusiasts worldwide. This is helping us build a network which benefits everyone involved. We often test new products through this network before placing them on the market. Our priority isn’t about obtaining exclusive rights, but about making the image garden centres have of us as interesting as possible. Do you ever visit garden centres outside the Netherlands. Of course, and I’ve noticed that this is increasingly important. It’s not enough to simply offer a range of products, you have to stimulate the consumer’s imagination. I’ve noticed garden centres using attractive plant and colour combinations, and themes such as the biodiversity garden. How are you enjoying working with Javado? Javado is good at selling novelties. Another important aspect is that we get lots of feedback through Javado. We like hearing about customers’ experiences with our products. Over the years, Javado has grown from a player who orders small quantities per tray and layer to a customer buying entire CC-trolleys.. What are your future plans? We aim to continue to inspire with our attractive range and our novelties!

Mangave® turns the garden world upside down Mangave® is a cross between Agave and Manfreda. It’s resulted in a plant that excels in various areas.

The Black Label identifies a plant supplied by F.N. Kempen

Water tolerant: like the Agave, the Mangave® can withstand drought. Unlike the Agave, however, it can also tolerate humid conditions. Growing power: a Mangave® has more growing power, which results in faster growth and larger, fuller plants. Colour: the Mangave® collection offers a wealth of spectacular leaf patterns and colours Friendly: The Mangrave® doesn’t have sharp leaf edges like those of the Agave.

An F.N. Kempen outpost in Italy Some of the plants are grown in fields in Italy, so they can be ready for the new season in time. These plants are also cultivated with equal respect for people and nature.

The first of the special Mangave® series of plants will be placed on the market in 2020. 7 species will be available, grown in 13-cm and 17-cm pots. The launch is planned for around mid-June, so keep an eye on our range. A selection from the perennial dianthus range

Rock your Garden The Chamaelobivia is a hardy cactus! This cactus needs a cold period in order to bloom, but then produces amazingly large flowers every spring. This cactus can be placed on the terrace or planted in the rock garden, just make sure the roots aren’t saturated in water for too long. Painting with Heuchera Heuchera has very diverse leaf colours, so provides keen gardeners with a whole range of possibilities in both direct sunlight and shade. Heuchera is like a palette with which a landscape architect can design colours in a garden. Due to its increasing popularity, F.N. Kempen now grows it all year round.

Award-winning Sedum Atlantis The Sedum Atlantis won the Chelsea Plant of the Year 2019, among other prizes, so it’s a garden plant worth waiting for. With green leaves edged in light yellow, pink flower buds and yellow flowers, the combination of colours this plant provides is unique. This plant exhibits dense growth, so it remains nice and compact. Atlantis prefers direct sun but can also tolerate partial shade. Thanks to its extended flowering period that starts earlier than the average sedum, this plant is an asset to biodiversity in the garden. Atlantis is heat-tolerant, drought-resistant, moisture-resistant, disease-free and hardy down to -25 °C, so the ideal garden plant to recommend to the consumer. F.N. Kempen grows Atlantis in 19-cm pots. Available from the second half of June. Javado magazine 39

Special Report

There’s no disputing the fact that Fuchsias are one of the best and most attractive Patio plants. The flowers are elegant and last an extremely long time. However, the Fuchsia section in garden centres these days look very different compared to a decade ago when the plant was dominated by green leaves with occasional flowers providing dashes of colour. Bella Fuchsia® has changed all this rapidly. If you walk past the Fuchsia section these days, you’ll be greeted by a kaleidoscope of beautiful fuchsia colours.

“The Fuchsia section looks very different to a decade ago”

We can thank the fourth generation of the Hendriks family of Hendriks Young Plants for all this. At their headquarters in Westland, they explain how they bred a new range of plants that have quickly become a household name in the market. NEW: Bella Fuchsia® Laura 42 Javado magazine

About Javado

Gerson Aalbrecht knows Javado inside out. He’s responsible for the marketing department, the creative soul of the company. Tell us a little about yourself I love sports. Giving a ball a wallop on the squash court or the tennis court is great fun, but my biggest passion is sailing. I learned to sail in an Optimist (child’s sailing dinghy) when I was a kid, and to this day I enjoy taking part in lots of sailing competitions. Besides sports, I also love the seasons, as every season has its charms. I live in a very nice house in the countryside with my wife, who I met at Javado a long time ago. How long have you been working at Javado? Since 1998. After completing my studies, I started working in what I thought would be a temporary job. However, I’ve been able to progress with the company, and I still enjoy working here. In the beginning, I learned about purchasing, and I’ve maintained ties with lots of growers. Later, I started to combine purchasing with sales to a number of customers in France and Germany. As a result, I learned to speak French and German, alongside my English, which I’m really happy about. My main passion is marketing. In 2007, I started the Javado annual calendar. This series of leaflets about holidays and themes was my first step towards the marketing department. I’ve now been running the department for quite some time.

What does your job involve? The individual leaflets of the annual calendar have evolved into the Javado Magazine. We produce the entire magazine ourselves, so I always want to know what’s going on in every corner of our industry. This involves lots of meetings with our buyers and sellers, and I visit plenty of nurseries, garden centres and fairs. Besides all this, I do of course have lots of regular tasks, such as preparing for trade fairs we take part in, developing POS material, and guaranteeing our online visibility. I’d like to mention our small but effective marketing team; Vera is our social media expert, and Tanja is my rock for all the other marketing activities.

Our customers can benefit from our savings promotion. Keep our magazines in 2020, send us a photo of all 4 ‘Holland stamps’, and receive a real Dutch treat with your order.
