Mr Cedric Poleman Headmaster
After a hiatus of two years brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are a few days away from our departure to Grey and one can already feel the atmosphere, and excitement amongst the learners, bearing in mind that 2022 will be the first undertaking of a tour for most. Practices have become more intense as the teams prepare to take on Grey in their own backyard. We wish all the teams everything of the best. The unique nature of boys' schools is once again celebrated through this traditional exchange. We hope that the ultimate purpose of developing lifelong friendships not only amongst themselves but with the Grey boys is realised. In the past, this fixture was one of the most well supported with Wynberg supporters travelling in their numbers to Gqeberha. Adorned in all manner of supporter attire, the Wynberg contingent cheer all our sides whether it be Junior or High School matches. Our thanks go to the headmaster of Grey, Mr Grant Butler, and his staff for the organisation, the Grey families for taking the responsibility of hosting so many of our boys and showing them the legendary hospitality of the Eastern Cape. To our Wynberg families, we thank you for your continued support and Supera Moras spirit, we look forward to seeing you alongside the field at Grey!
Supera Moras
Mr Marc Sabatta Head of Rugby
Going to Grey is an opportunity that comes once or twice in your Junior School career but should be taken with both hands. The lifelong friendships and memories which can be created are priceless. While playing your rugby fixtures on Saturday, ensure you play in the right spirit and give it your all regardless of the scoreline. Remember, you are not only representing yourself and your family, but also your province and an entire community, you are representing "brothers in an endless chain". Playing barefoot rugby matches is not something our boys are used to, but having the Wynberg Supera Moras attitude, I know our boys will put that aside and overcome the difficulty. I would like to thank all our parents for allowing the boys the opportunity to tour and create memories that will last a lifetime. To our boys, go out there and have fun, make friends but more importantly give it your all. Thank you for putting in the hard work at practices leading up to Grey. All rugby fixtures will take place on Saturday, from U10A-C to U13A-C.
Mrs Jo-dee Paulsen Head of Hockey
For many of our boys, this will be the first time they will be playing full field hockey matches. Three teams from the U10, U11 and U12 age groups and four teams from U13 will be participating. The matches will be 20 minutes a half and will be played at two different astros namely Grey Rectory Astro and the Collegiate Astroturf. We are proud of you and keep the Supera Moras spirit when you play!
Mrs Kym James Head of Squash
Our Top 8 U13 Squash boys will be competing against Grey on Friday, 6 May at 09h30. We have looked forward to this fixture for the last 2 years and the boys have been working hard to improve their game. This promises to be an exciting opportunity for the boys who are participating in this event.
Mrs Mary-Lou Townsend Head of Cross Country
We are so excited to be running a cross country race at Grey this year. It will be the first race against another school since the advent of COVID-19. The race will be run at the golf course on Friday, 6 May, starting at 08H30! Good luck to the boys participating in this.
Mr Eugene Kierman Head of Music
The WBJS Concert Band will be performing alongside the Grey Junior Concert Band in a pair of ‘massed pieces’. In addition, both bands will perform a number of pieces separately. Our joint concert will be held at 17H00 on Friday, 6 May. We are very much looking forward to this opportunity.
