AXE the FAX 2020
Background: • Fax messaging is not very secure and the Ministry of Health is aiming to phase out faxing by the end of 2020. Alternatives will need to be put in place through out the health sector, such as secure email.
What do we need to know: • We need to know how we are utilising faxing currently. Who are we faxing, who are we receiving faxes from, what are we faxing and how frequently we are faxing before we can look at alternative solutions. It might not be so much about what we are doing, but what the health sector as a whole is doing so that system wide solutions can be made.
Who needs to know: • This information is going to be shared with the BOP DHB who have a dedicated team looking at regional solutions for using the fax machine.
When do we need to complete this: • These information collection sheets need to be returned to the WBOP PHO by 5 August 2020.
How you can help: • Talk to your team to collect information on how they use the fax machine • You could: • Create a list together from memory • Leave the list next to the copier to collect use over 1-2 weeks • Create the list with an electronic spreadsheet, or printed and hand written
• If there are any faxes that you send monthly, quarterly or annually - please note these down as well.
