Kia ora,
Furtherindustrialaction
I’m writing to let you know about a further planned strike by someof our Resident Medical Officers, whoare members of NZ Resident Doctors Association and employed by Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand. We have received notice of another 49-hour strike, from 7:00am Thursday 30 May to 8:00am Saturday 1 June
At the same time, workers from the separate NZ Blood Service are also taking industrial action. The overlap of these strikes will compound the impact onour operations.
We remain focused on patient safety and wellbeing, and have detailed contingency planning in place to ensure we meet critical patient needs during this time.
We may, however, need to prioritise essential and acute 24-hour services. This may mean deferring non-essential services and notifying affected patients accordingly.
Services thatwill not be operating as usual relate to non-essential care. You and your patients can be assured that anyone in need of acute or emergency care will receive it, and all inpatients willcontinue to receive care
To help us maintain optimal patient safety, we ask that you consider any actions you mighttake to relieve short term pressure onour systems. Please continue to discuss urgent and acute referrals with specialties as per normal guidelines.
We appreciate your patience and assistance on the days of the industrial action, as our focus will be on supporting those in immediate need of our services.
Yours sincerely,
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty District Contingency Planners
