Card 35 – Calling an ambulance from a medical facility.
For all patients who have been assessed by a health professional call 0800 262 665 •
If it is immediately life-threatening press 1 - Cardiac arrest, severe shortness of breath, severe shock, unconscious, ST elevation myocardial infarction.
•
For all other patients press 2.
Whenever possible, a clinical person such as a doctor or nurse should make the call. If this is not possible and someone else, such as a reception staff member makes the call, please ensure they have all the information to pass on to the paramedic on the phone. When the call is answered by a Paramedic during times of peak demand, they will ask some additional clinical questions to determine the patient’s acuity and the most appropriate priority of response. These additional questions will only take 1–2 minutes and will not delay the ambulance response. If the caller has pushed ‘1’ (because the patient’s condition is immediately life-threatening) and the Paramedic is unavailable (for example, is on another call), then the call will be immediately diverted to a 111 Call Handler. You may then receive a call back once the Paramedic is available if additional information is required. For more information please refer to the information packs that your practice has received or contact WBOP PHO for more information.
