Changes to Community Services Card – MSD Dec 2018

Page 1

Changes to Community Services Card go live this weekend. The changes mean that people who are receiving Accommodation Supplement or are a tenant in a social housing property will now be eligible for a card. In addition, there are changes that mean all Community Services Card holders will be eligible for low cost visits to their general practice (they must be enrolled). Many practices have already signed up to offer these low cost visits, and more will join early next year. We’re sending the cards automatically The cards for the 80,000 newly eligible clients are being sent automatically. The first of these are already on their way, and all are expected to arrive in the next week. We had email addresses for 50,000 of these clients, so we sent them a message last night to let them know. An example is attached for your info. We’ve also worked with the Ministry of Health to communicate this to practices in their weekly bulletins about the changes. There will still likely be some who’ve missed it, so we’ve got messaging for the CSC card line organised. There’s also a news item on the Work and Income website. People can access the benefits from 1 December whether they have their card or not. The Ministry of Health gives practices the information they need for people to get lower cost visits if they don’t have their card with them or they haven’t received it yet. More people might want to apply Others who might be eligible, but don’t currently have a card, will need to apply. This is where we may see an increase in application form requests, as there is now more benefit to having a card. We’ll be monitoring stock of the forms carefully, but do discourage people from ordering large volumes. We should make sure they are clear that most people will get their card automatically. If they do need some, delivery is quick, so it’s best to order small quantities as needed. That will help us to make sure there’s enough for everyone.
