Farewell to Karilyn Lowe: Celebrating
46 Years of Dedication to Primary Care
Mount Medical Centre bids a heartfelt farewell to Karilyn Lowe, who retires after an extraordinary 46-year career, the majority of which she spent in a leadership role as our esteemed Practice Manager. Her unwavering loyalty, hard work, and dedication have left an indelible mark not only on our practice but also on the community we serve.
Karilyn’s tenure has been defined by her tireless commitment to excellence. She expertly managed staff rosters, finances, and operations while embracing the everchanging landscape of primary care with energy and resilience. Her ability to drive the team to adapt and innovate has been pivotal in keeping Mount Medical Centre at the forefront of healthcare delivery.
Beyond her administrative acumen, Karilyn has demonstrated extraordinary compassion and bravery. Her quick-thinking actions in rescuing a person from a burning car exemplify her selflessness and courage. She has been a daily point of contact for a local homeless resident, offering dignity and connection, and she didn’t hesitate to sandbag our doors to protect the centre during an impending flood. These acts speak to her remarkable dedication to the wellbeing of others.
Karilyn’s contributions to our opioid substitution service earned her special recognition in an external report, describing her efforts as a signficant reason for the success of the programme. Her problem-solving skills have made her the go-to person for IT challenges and countless other hurdles. She has also displayed a keen eye for business, implementing rigorous checks and balances that have ensured the centre’s sustainability.
A cornerstone of our staff culture, Karilyn has been an enthusiastic participant in our memorable team events and has often driven charitable initiatives that reflect her generous spirit. Despite personal challenges, including the loss of her husband to cancer, she raised three daughters while remaining steadfast in her role, often arriving as the first at the centre each morning.
As Karilyn retires, she looks forward to spending time with her grandchildren and pursuing her love of travel and hiking. While we are saddened to see her leave, we
celebrate her incredible contributions and wish her all the best in this next chapter. The legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire us, and we hope she will remain a part of our extended family in the years to come.
